So, I’m a few days into me free WoW trial. I made a second character (more on her later) to get another view of the game, and I’m still have a decent time playing. My job keeps me from having a ton of time to play, but I don’t mind that so much. I am, however, starting to wonder if I’ll ever actually get the paid version. Why?
My roommate.
I heart my roommate, I do. But she is very demanding of my free time. She heaves a HUGE sigh and storms off whenever I mention that I might like to play WoW. (She doesn’t know yet that I’m playing the trial. I have to sneak online when she’s either asleep or at work.) I understand that she’s apparently lost a few friends in the past to the game, but… seriously now. I don’t have the *time* to spend all day playing anymore. Before I moved in with her, rather, before I started talking with her, I’d come home from work and enjoy my free time. Maybe write or draw, or maybe spend 10 hours grinding on Maple Story on my day off. I barely play MS now because if I can’t sit and grind for 10 hours then it doesn’t feel worthwhile to play it. I’m afraid that the same is going to happen with WoW if I start playing it.
My roommate wants me to spend all of my free time (when she’s around at least) with *her*. But I’m a rather reclusive person, and would like to be able to spend more of my free time by myself.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions on how to handle things? I have to live with her, so I’d rather not have her pissed off at me all the time. But I’d still like to be able to play games by myself. (And no, she doesn’t want to play WoW.)

WoW – The First 24 Hours
So, yesterday I got bored and decided to try out the free 10 day trial of World of Warcraft. (Make that 10 million and 1, right?) Someone on one of the forums I go to had mentioned it, so I figured, why not?
Dear me.
Start the download around 7:30pm. By the time it’s time for me to leave for work (I work 11pm-7am), the download is near 25%. I leave my computer up while I’m off at work so it can finish.
Wait, did I say finish? I guess I did. When I get home at 7am, the download is at 97%. Well, not too bad. I wait for it to finish downloading, and at 7:30 start the install. At 8am I get to watch the intro movie.
And then the game decides it needs to download a 700mb patch. After it just downloaded the 3.16gig file. Fabulous. Thinking that this is starting to remind me of the ordeals I went through to get FlyFF to work in the past, I go to bed while the patch downloads.
When I wake up bright and early at 1:30pm (shut up, that’s really early for me). The patch is done and the game is ready to go! Yay!
Oh, wait, what? If you play WoW, then probably know what. There was a server check between 3am-11am PST. So I have to wait half an hour in order to play. But then I get to play! Yay!
After much debating and not having a clue what kind of character I should go with, I made a female Tauren warrior. Mainly because it seems I always use a warrior to feel out any new MMO that I play. (When in doubt, hit it and try to run away.) Anyhoo, my Tauren is cute and has spots and hits things with a big hammer. Sweet. Tauren are apparently really really tall (didn’t notice this until an elf or something ran by me). They remind me of the Ronso from FFX.
I played until about 7pm, and got to level 8. I’m having a pretty good time so far, so I hope the game keeps a hold on my interests.
Now my big cow butt has to go get ready for work.
LEAFRE – 2nd Impressions
Well, not quite so much Leafre, but other patch related goodness.
Anyhoo… congrats to Radjehuty (pic 1) for making it to Arch Mage! Now I don’t have to listen to you wait for the patch anymore. :3 Also, thank you to the people who pointed out that I had to turn on the HP bars. Durh. XD They don’t work as well as I’d hoped they would for Squids, but they’re still a nice addition.
Saw a priest with their Bahamut while heading to NLC for a quest I couldn’t locate. (pic 2) While waiting for the train, a sniper spent a great deal of effort saying their pig mount was better than the priest’s Bahamut. Whatever, at least the dragon’s cute. (As an aside, did anyone else have the Event quest “Eat This!” show up? I couldn’t find Edmund, and it seems to be related to the fireplaces, but I already have the Omni key…)
There seems to have been a great deal of other little things that were done with the patch. Maps have been changed, or at least flipped over… In Mu Lung, Mr. Do has shown up, so you can do his quest now. I haven’t found Captain Hwang in Herb Town yet, though. Lower level monsters now also drop green apples, which are good for 30mp healing. There are probably other things, but I haven’t been back much to Vic and Ludi yet to properly explore.
The weird portals that have been showing up here and there in the game finally have usage too. Magic seeds in Leafre (which cost the same 30k as a boat ticket) will allow you to warp to the portal north of Ellinia. I’m not sure how else they’re connected, but it sure beats waiting for the boats!
LEAFRE — First Impressions
So, first off, congrats to all the people making 4th job! Yay! I’m not one of them, but yay anyways.
Upon patching I traveled from Mu Lung to Orbis, and from there to Leafre. Ticket prices have become steeper, but they’ve been expensive in other versions of the game for some time.
I’ve seen a few people running around riding on hogs. I’m not entirely sure what the point of mounts is, aside from saying “lol I’m high level and spent 20 mil on an ugly chocobo”. Do they do anything?
Stop with the Server Checks Already!
Dear Nexon:
Please stop with the server checks already. Or at least, stop having them on nights when I don’t have to work and have nothing else to do, really. (I work the graveyard shift.) Both last Thursday and this Thursday there have been server checks during the time I had wanted to spend a long period playing. There was also a server check, what, two nights ago? Have a server check during the middle of the day once in awhile, it’s not fair to the rest of us. >< And why do we have to have a 6 hour one tonight if there’s going to be a probably 10 hour patch in a week and a half? Augh.
Which do I train?
So, with the new patch they’ve announced that 4th jobs will finally be arriving come January 2008. Awesome.
Here’s my dilemma:
I have a level 98 Fire/Poison mage that I haven’t trained in months. Bored with training her, though she’s still fun to run around and play.
I’ve been training a Ice/Lightning mage now for about a month or so, and she’s level 43 currently. My goal was to eventually get her to third job, so my roommate could play with the I/L mage, and I could play with my F/P mage.
What is a “High Level” player?
I’m not talking about so-called “pros” here or anything like that.
Back when you were just a little noob adventurer running around and trying not to get killed by that iron hog at pig beach, you would look to the level 50 player and go “wow, that dude’s pretty high level”.
Then you got to level 50. A little steadier on your feet, and the distant fuzzy image of 3rd job is starting to come into somewhat sharper focus. You got over that level 49 hump that seems to beat a lot of players. You feel pretty good, but then notice the people getting congratulated for reaching 3rd job. Level 70. You think “man, 3rd job, they’re pretty high level”.
Leveling and a pet question…
Firstly, today Ginnova got to level 96. Yay, only two more levels until she can wear a bazura!
My main question, however, relates to my pet. You see, I’ve had Lavinia the pink bunny now… well, for over a year. But I was thinking about getting a new pet. (More specifically, I was thinking about splurging on getting one of the dragon eggs.)
Lavinia’s time runs up again in a few days. If I get a new pet, can the exp be transferred without me reviving the bunny first? Or do I have to do that too? I’m not really clear on how that all works.
After having my bunny for a year, I’ll feel a little bad moving on to a new pet, but… I would like a dragon. >_> So I’m a little torn on the issue.
Anyone’s thoughts and whatnot on the matter would be appreciated!
Yay lvl 57!
I know, some people might say “Level 57, so what’s the big deal?” But for the character that got to lvl 57 tonight, it’s a big deal. And besides, there’s a number of MS players who have a half dozen or more characters, but none of them are above lvl 50. (You know who you are. >_> ) Also, lvl 57 is the point when the exp requirement to level goes over 1 million. So… yeah.
Tonight Tallidae finally got to level 57. Why do I say finally? Well, ever since Ginnova was created, I stopped training Tallidae. The last time Tall leveled was on August 29th, 2006. That’s quite some time ago. So Tall is quite happy, and is now getting visions in her head of becoming a priest. I hope she doesn’t get ahead of herself again. ><
Lvl 90 and a question…
So, I finally got ahold of my account again… *sigh* Anyhow! I’ve been training when I can (stupid work), and my sweet little fire mage finally hit level 90 the other day during double exp. Yay! Actually, she’s level 91 now. Yay, only 7 more levels until I can get a bazura!
*cough*
My question for the day is this: Did they nerf the snail throwing attack while I was gone? It used to have a 100% hit rate, but when I tried using it on sharks the other day the snail shells were missing. Augh. Oh well, my accuracy is getting better and I’m missing a lot less… but still! Things getting nerfed is annoying.
