Ranting about users here

This is irking me. I just started on this site yesterday or the day before and already people are sending me hate mail and hate comments, lol. I thought BasilMarket’s community was bad, but wow, I have been proven wrong.

I have people sitting here bickering with me saying “my blog is longer and has more thought put into it” and “stop making so many blogs, join them together.” Wait whose site is this? Sure it’s the users who make the site, but where are the RULES stating I can’t do such things?

For those who can’t read rules or haven’t bothered but yet sit here telling ME what to do, here ya go:
Rules / Etiquette
When commenting, if you have nothing positive, constructive or useful to say, don’t say it. Your post will be deleted and you will eventually be restricted from posting.
– Discussion of hacking, scamming, or cussing etc will result in an immediate ban.
– Do not ask people to defame someone.
– Do not ask to be trained.
– Do not buy/sell/trade in the forums.
– Do not ask to start / join a guild.
– Do not use ALL CAPS for a thread title, if you do, your thread will be deleted.
– Do not post your thread in multiple forums on the site, they will all be deleted.
– Do not start a thread to solicit your website or guild.
– Posting inappropriate links will get you banned.
– Buying/selling accounts is not allowed and will get you banned.

Can someone point out to me where it says I can’t make more than one blog in one day? OR! Can someone tell me the limit of how many lines a blog has to be to be accepted? Hmm? I can’t seem to find those anywhere. OH! BUT WAIT! What’s this? “…if you have nothing positive, constructive or useful to say, don’t say it.

Who’s the one going against rules? I don’t believe it’s me. If you’re going to point the finger at someone “doing something wrong”, point it at yourself. I’d post this in the forums but, OH WAIT, the forums are for talking about gaming, not the site according to the description of each forum subject.

Are you happy that my blog isn’t “short” according to you? I’ve seen plenty of other blogs that are, as mine have been called, “short”. What’s with you people and being so hateful? By you people I’m talking about such users on this site who have the nerve to leave nasty comments on my blogs, which by the way did not take long to receive such comments, and those who have the nerve to send me mail bickering at what they deem “wrong”.

Personally, I don’t think a lot of you understand the meaning of BLOG. So here is a dictionary.com definition that best suits it:
Main Entry: blog
Part of Speech: n
Definition: an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page; also called Weblog, Web log
Example: Typically updated daily, blogs often reflect the personality of the author.
Etymology: shortened form of Weblog
Usage: blog, blogged, blogging v, blogger n

According to this definition, a blog is typically updated DAILY. It’s also full of thoughts from the author. Seeing as this site has a blog for gamers, here’s what the SITE says about who they are: What is MMOTales?
MMOTales is a simple site for posting Blogs about your MMO adventures. Talk about good or bad experiences, finding weapons, fighting monsters, whatever you like. Think of it as a regular blog, but for your virtual life.

I’m doing just as the site has explained it to be for. What is so wrong about that? It isn’t my fault that I enjoy keeping subjects seperate. Also, the blogs posted were about things that happened on different days. Sorry that I like keeping things organized and not just all thrown together.

Honestly, I hope you take some time to think about what it is you’re actually bickering at me about. Then reconsider how you treat people as a whole, even if it is on a gaming blog site.

Here’s the long blog you people keep complaining about. Does that make you happy?

Edit
I noticed that some people said how it was only a few people who are rude on here. Yea, I understand that and I wasn’t saying it was the whole site and all of the users on it. Just wanted to clear that for everyone reading. The people who DID post rude comments know who they are. My other blogs, I did put time into and thought. Just wasn’t much to say about the events I wrote about, plus it was like 4 AM or whatever. Oh well, sorry to those who thought I thought the same of everyone on the site. I’m only quick to judge those who do something wrong. A first impression can be a lasting impression .

  1. Meh I was just asking don’t need to get all huffy about it. . .
And no. . .No one site could compare to the amount of flamers on Basil

Uh, woops. That totally spaced my mind. I thought we just posted everything in the “MapleStory” section. But technically the “General” section is supposed to be about gaming in general, but what the hell we do w/e we want there.

  3. Just a few things about this site:
    – It’s basically run by the community. The admin doesn’t exactly update or even visit often, as far as I know
—- Result: The rules page is outdated and most of the points on it besides scamming, hacking, spamming, negativity, are moot. There aren’t many rules that AREN’T on it, except:
    1. Blogs should be of a suitable length, preferably reaching past the “Most Recent Blogs” column.
    2. Blogs should mostly (60%+?) be related to some MMO.
    3. Anything non-related to MMOs *cough* should go in a forum thread.
    — Some members of the community may seem like jerks, but they are; just in a non-serious way. Most people are quite nice, some just tend to jump at newcomers without remembering that not all the rules are written.
    – The blog system here is different from what you’d normally expect… it’s generally preferred that you release larger blogs less often, instead of constant smaller blogs, because once a blog with less than 5 likes gets pushed off the Most Recent Blogs column, it’s basically dead. That way, people get to have their blogs read without having to worry about their blogs getting pushed down.
    – Uhh, I think that’s about it.

  4. You said: “It isn’t my fault that I enjoy keeping subjects seperate.”

Just as long as what you like doesn’t provoke others. o.o

Yeah, it’s kind of an unwritten rule here that you keep blogs kinda one-at-a-time. Anyone could post a bunch of daily blogs with a bit of stuff in ’em, but it’s not like they’re special or anything. It’s the blogs that are comprised of a whole bunch of crap you’ve been doing that get the likes and attention. So yeah, kinda… more quality over quantity is what I’m suggesting to you.

Funny thing is, I posted TWO blogs the day I created an MMOid and I had all these people all over me about it because they were “short” and bumped their blogs down. I’m not an addict to the site. Had they been nice about it, I would’ve had no problem with it. They weren’t though.

Also to Ganzicus, like I posted in the blog, I would post such things not related to MMO games in the forum but the forum is also stated to be for gaming and such talking,

  6. Well, the forum oughtta have a general section… Which it doesn’t. Meh, we just talk about non-MMO-related stuff there anyhow.

Sorry you got the dick treatment. =/

  7. Bradly , just because one or two people were harsher with their words doesn’t mean that everyone is like that . They’re really just trying to tell you that you should try to make longer blogs . And there , look at this blog . See ? You CAN write more . So why don’t you make the effort to write more for the rest of your blogs ? You’re one of the few newcomers who use good english when they come in and that’s awesome . But really , you should try to improve on your length . Everyone who does not write blogs of the proper length has been given that comment . Those who accepted it stayed and those who didn’t always/usually left . Maybe Spade was harsh , but once again , the people here are nice . They really are . We really are . And for your blog thingy .

You could like write a blog and seperate it by dates , won’t that be good as well ?

EDIT: I think somone needs to apologise to him -.-

  8. @Cheeze – But the forum DOES have a General section. It’s called ‘General’. >_<

@poster – Some rules have been formed around here by the community. It’s not an officail rule, it’s a rule that’s generally accepted by the public. Like . . . say for instance, you were dining in an elegant restaurant, with our girlfriend. It’s proper etiquette to NOT burp, talk on your cell phone, sleep, look at oher people eating food. There are no “rules” in life. It’s just common sense really. Whereas here at MMOT, common sense would tell you that spamming blogs wouldn’t generall be liked. If you liek separating subjects so much, why don’t you type in what you want, then copy and save it in a text document. Then the next day, type more and etc. etc. until you feel it is time to post. It’s just a suggestion.

    I’ll do it.

On behalf of MMOTales, I apologize for people being jerks to you. Or at least, apparently. Right, please open your mind to understand the idea that people dislike what appears to be spamming. The community here is comprised largely of self-proclaimed intellectuals, with many psychotics filling up the gaps. As a result, disputes can become frighteningly heated or feisty.

On the other hand, I wholeheartedly agree with you that absolutely no one on this site should tell you how to blog. They have ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to yell at you about length. Unless you’re being a newb female dog about it. For creative purposes, there is nothing worse than someone telling you what you are allowed to do. That is why I believe the format of this site is twisted. It places too much emphasis on gaining reputation points rather than the individual being allowed to express himself or herself.

I guarantee you this ‘unspoken’ rule of MMOT would change if the community size were in the say, thousands. Blogs would constantly be produced and spam overlooked. The new blogs page would be frequently refilled and less emphasis would be placed on gaining popularity.

  10. Yey! *looks at enhancements*

  11. @ Azn: Erm . I didn’t really expect you to apologise . But yeah , thanks for apologising for us all

Someone has to apologize. I think I read somewhere African Americans have never gotten an official apology from the United States for the whole slavery thing. I swear, if I were president, I’d issue a national apology.

  15. What’s with you people and being so hateful?

I remember someone said a while back that people needed to be more courteous about reminding newcomers about the guidelines. Be nice, kiddoes.

But hey. It’s a bit like being snappy after seeing a ton of brainless Smega spam, though it doesn’t excuse the behaviour. And if you look at the way this website is organised, with each blog entry a separate page/URL on its own versus a format like, say, Livejournal.com* or Blogspot.com, it really is much less friendly to short entries. It’s easier to read tiny individual entries on separate events if they’re all displayed on a list like in the typical weblog, imo. I myself feel cheated if I click on a link to a MMOt blog that is shorter than its title is wide.

If anything, the blogs on this site cannot be considered under the typical definition of your typical weblog.

*Randomly selected link. >.> In case you guys have any funny ideas.

  16. Your blogs could have all been combined into a single blog about zakum. On this site, most tend to describe whole weeks or months in their blogs.

Sorry if any of that seemed mean, I think it’s more like a helpful tip.
    Welcome to the site!

Also, I’m not sure that this still counts, but we had a mod here that actually made this rule that blogs had to be at least a certain amount of length. Her privileges as a mod were revoked though, but I think her rules still are enforced by the community. We just like to be an organized, intellectual, nice community and consider these as tips to guide you on adapting to this site. If someone was flaming, then please understand that is not the spirit of this site.

I’m truly sorry if any of my comment contained insults or flames. I did not intend to be mean.
    Seeya around!

  17. Hi, no comment.

Actually my comment is that no one follows the rules, really.
    Why rant? LOL

  18. MMOTales is anarchistic and self-run

Considering our admin ditched us completely and our only mod went rogue considering our admin ditched us we have no choice but to enforce these rules to keep reasonable order here

there are certain reasons we make these rules

not just to be hard or annoying but because they have everyone’s interest in mind

Many people on this site are loyal to MMOTales and take their writing and blogs very seriously

it’s very annoying to spill your heart and soul into a blog to have it knocked off the page in a few minutes by some borderline spam blogs that could have been merged into one

it is also annoying for those trying to be recognized

UNlike some very loyal MMOTalers who have no trouble getting people to read their blogs because they have established a fanbase newer members haven’t and they lose their chance

Don’t take it too seriously just remember as much as blogs are about you there is an etiquette to follow when creating them

it also benefits you because if you’ll notice people tend to like when things are bunched together instead of spread over 500 parts

    it’s a scientifically proven fact
