Royal Betrayal – 14 REVISED

The trio of thieves ran through the deserted halls of Ashura’s castle. Stars jumped from wall to wall in case of an ambush, Sam and Night ran together, with Night heavily distracted by what he had been able to do.

Suddenly, they heard marching, just in time, for they almost crashed into the twelve soldiers who were making their way to the room they had just left.

“It’s them! Intruders!” One of them shouted.

“No! One of them is Night, with his father’s weapon!” Another bellowed.

“They’re robbing the king!” A third announced.

Night just grumbled something incomprehensive, and focused his energy, releasing a power strike, followed by another, quick flurry of unintentional energy

One warrior stood, but by the time he came to his senses that he was alone, the enemy was already gone, and his legs had been sliced off unforgivingly by Night. Blood gushed freely from the stumps that were previously his knees.

Reaching their room, Night, Sam and Stars took a breath, before frantically taking all their possessions and jamming them inside their bags. Stars took out 3 scrolls to Kerning and handed one to Sam and Night before reading the incantation on it.

After waiting a while, Stars said <No luck. The house must be magically protected from scroll escapes.>

Night stared at a wall in the room, as he tried to formulate a plan.

He decided on the most efficient of the plans and told the others to move to the corners of the room. “Brace for impact!”, he cried, before pointing the Omega Spear downward and slamming it into the ground with Power Strike.

His assault blew a wide hole, placing debris and dust everywhere. Night put on his pack and jumped into the hole. Sam followed, but Stars wouldn’t move.

“Come on!” Night yelled, a sense of urgency in his strained voice.

<What if I don’t make it?>

Night grumbled something incomprehensive again. “What the hell are you a thief for? Nothing bad is going to happen to you if you jump down this hole!”, he said encouragingly.

He watched as Stars closed his eyes and jumped.

“Phobia of heights?” Night inquired.

<Not anymore. Stop talking about it.> Stars bluntly replied.

But Night didn’t stop. He kept pressing for more information from Stars, who had become silent and unresponsive.

Sam just stared forward, keeping watch for the two distracted boys, unaware of the person behind them who was in position to throw a Spear at Night.

“Come on, let’s go.” Night said, diverting the conversation.

Carefully and accurately, the man hurled the Spear. The Spear hit him in the shoulder region, piercing through his shoulder blades and protruding from his chest, with marrow, bits of bone, and blood flying everywhere, staining the walls and floor. Night fell onto his knees, the look of death in his eyes. He fell forward, splinting the crude Spear and pushing it out of his body.

This knocked Stars out of his trance. He wasted no time dragging Night onto his shoulder and grabbing Sam’s hand, dashing away, taking as many twists and turns as possible.

Stars stopped suddenly, and set Night down. Warm green sparks flew from his fingers onto Night’s chest, pulling the skin together. Blood stuck on Night’s shirt flew back inside his wound, and the bone replaced itself, ending with the skin pulling itself closed.

“Wait, aren’t you an assassin?” Sam inquired.

<So?>, Stars curtly replied.

“Assassins can’t use heal!” Sam retorted.

<I have the abilities of a priest. I never used them because it wasn’t neccessary.> Stars replied. <Now, let’s go>, he suddenly said, pulling Night onto his shoulders again and grabbing her hand.

There were a lot of comments on how I should have done this chapter, so I decided to revise the whole thing. I hope the revision made it better.
