In-Depth F/P Guide

Okay since this isn’t getting much looks/likes I’ll post it on here.

The Magician

You start out weak, very weak. You may see those future warriors owning you at Maple Island but don’t worry, your time will come. While you suck you may ask, why choose a magician?

Pros:
Lots of MP
Only class that can attack up close and far away
Elemental Advantage in 2nd job
Can withstand high damage with the skill Magic Guard
Most stable out of all classes
Richest class
Very strong in 1st job
High Magic Defense

Cons:
Low HP
When using Magic Guard, MP goes away quickly making it cost a lot of money
Because of the Elemental Advantage, number of training places are low
Considered weak in 2nd and 3rd job
Very hard to train as a beginner
Range is not as good as that of an Assassin or Archer
Low Weapon Defense

If you want to become a successful and powerful magician, you need a good dice roll.

Ideal Stats:
Str – 4
Dex – 4
Int – Any number
Luk – Any number

Normally, people can’t get that good of a dice roll so most people settle for this.

Str – 4/5
Dex – 4/5
Int – Any number
Luk – Any number

As you level you get 5 Ability Points to put into the abilities of Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Luck, HP, and MP. The main rule is, never put any points into Strength, Dexterity, HP, and MP. Keep your Intelligence as high as possible and your Luck high enough so you can wear equips. Usually, the rule is Luk = Level + 3 but at later levels this can be broken.

On Maple Island, it is recommended to do the quest because the give good experience. Once you are level 7 or 8 head over to South Perry and go to Victoria Island. You will arrive at Lith Harbor, walk to the right and you will see Olaf. He gives two quest which gives good exp. After this, train to level 8 (if you aren’t already) and go to the guy in the stall. Head over to Ellinia. Climb all the way to the top and go into that house. Talk to Grendel the Really Old and you will become a magician.

Now that you are a magician you have a whole new set of skills. Here is what most people do as their build.

Level 8: 1 Energy Bolt
Level 9: 3 MP Recovery
Level 10: 2 MP Recovery, 1 MP Increase
Level 11: 3 MP Increase
Level 12: 3 MP Increase
Level 13: 3 MP Increase (maxed)
Level 14: 3 MP Recovery
Level 15: 3 MP Recovery
Level 16: 3 MP Recovery
Level 17: 2 MP Recovery (maxed), 1 Magic Claw
Level 18: 3 Magic Claw
Level 19: 3 Magic Claw
Level 20: 3 Magic Claw
Level 21: 3 Magic Claw
Level 22: 3 Magic Claw
Level 23: 3 Magic Claw
Level 24: 1 Magic Claw (maxed), 2 Magic Guard
Level 25: 3 Magic Guard
Level 26: 3 Magic Guard
Level 27: 3 Magic Guard
Level 28: 3 Magic Guard
Level 29: 3 Magic Guard
Level 30: 3 Magic Guard (maxed)

Alternate Builds: You may start pumping Magic Claw at level 14 and then max MP Recovery if you’re impatient. However, at those levels it doesn’t take long to level so 4 levels wouldn’t make that much of a difference.

Explanation: Maxing MP Increase first is a must because the MP is needed later. Magic Claw will be your main attacking skill so that is maxed next. If you look at the skill descriptions it seems as if Magic Armor is better than Magic Guard. Don’t be tempted, Magic Guard will prove very useful at higher levels.

Training Places:
1-8: Green Snails & Blue Snails
8-15: Red Snails, Slimes, & Stumps
15-22: Pigs, Ribbon Pigs, & Orange Mushrooms
23-30: Kerning Party Quest, Green Mushrooms, & Bubblings
27-30: Kerning Party Quest, Horned Mushrooms, Green Mushrooms, Bubblings, & Stirges

The F/P Wizard

When you’re level 30 you can now choose to become a F/P Wizard, I/L Wizard, or a Cleric. Since this guide is focused on F/P I’ll only talk about those.

Pros:
Strongest single attack out of all mages in 2nd job
Higher KB rate due to the fact that it’s only 1 hit
Monsters that F/P Wizards train on have great drops
Most unique mage class

Cons:
No mobbing, some may consider boring because of it
Explosion’s casting speed is very slow

Go back to the top of Ellinia and talk to Grendel the Really Old. He’ll give you something and tell you to talk to the magician job instructor. He is located at the top of the Forest up North of Ellinia. He’ll transport you to a map where there are monsters. They drop Dark Marbles, collect 30 and go back and talk to the job instructor. Then go back to Grendel the Really Old, select F/P Wizard and voila!

Now that you have yet another skill book, here is a build.

Level 30: 1 Fire Arrow
Level 31: 1 Teleport, 2 Fire Arrow
Level 32: 3 Fire Arrow
Level 33: 3 Fire Arrow
Level 34: 3 Fire Arrow
Level 35: 3 Fire Arrow
Level 36: 3 Fire Arrow
Level 37: 3 Fire Arrow
Level 38: 3 Fire Arrow
Level 39: 3 Fire Arrow
Level 40: 3 Fire Arrow (maxed)
Level 41: 3 MP Eater
Level 42: 3 Meditation
Level 43: 3 Meditation
Level 44: 3 Meditation
Level 45: 3 Meditation
Level 46: 3 Meditation
Level 47: 3 Meditation
Level 48: 2 Meditation (maxed), 1 MP Eater
Level 49: 3 MP Eater
Level 50: 3 MP Eater
Level 51: 3 MP Eater
Level 52: 3 MP Eater
Level 53: 3 MP Eater
Level 54: 2 MP Eater (maxed), 1 Teleport
Level 55: 3 Teleport
Level 56: 3 Teleport
Level 57: 3 Teleport
Level 58: 3 Teleport
Level 59: 3 Teleport
Level 60: 3 Teleport (maxed)
Level 61: 3 Slow
Level 62: 3 Slow
Level 63: 3 Slow
Level 64: 3 Slow
Level 65: 3 Slow
Level 66: 3 Slow
Level 67: 2 Slow (maxed), 1 Poison Brace
Level 68: 3 Poison Brace
Level 69: 3 Poison Brace
Level 70: 3 Poison Brace

Alternate Builds: Instead of doing 11 Poison Brace, some people choose to do 11 Magic Armor. Both are pretty much pointless so it doesn’t really matter. Poison is good for fooling around. Teleport and MP Eater are also sometimes shown switched places. You can do this; both are very useful at Grupins to save MP. If you do MP Eater first, then just don’t teleportt around as much.

Explanation: Fire Arrow will be your main attacking skill for all of 2nd job and a bit into 3rd job. Therefore, it is maxed first. Meditation is a very useful skill that increases your damage a lot. Slow has absolutely no purpose in 2nd job but will become very useful in later levels. MP Eater and Teleport are equally useful in 2nd job therefore they are maxed before Slow. Poison Brace ends up being the only thing left you can put points into so that’s where the 11 points go.

Training Places:
30-35: Horned & Zombie Mushrooms
33-37: Wild Boar, Stone Mask, & Wooden Mask
38-43: Jr. Grupins (for money), Jr. Wraiths (for exp), Cold Eyes, Nependeath, & Ligators
40-50: Ludi PQ (for money)
43-50: Block Golems, Jr. Pepe, & Platoon Chronos
50-55: Jr. Yeti
55-65: Grupins
65-70: Grupins (for money), White Pangs (for exp)

There’s a really good link about how to train at Pangs.

The F/P Mage

Once you’re level 70 head over to the Chief Residence in El Nath. Talk to Robeira. Go back to Ellinia and talk to Grendel the Really Old. After that, go to Forest of Evil II and kill Grendel’s clone. Go back go Grendel the Really Old. After that, head to El Nath again and talk to Robeira. Get one refined Dark Crystal then go to the Holy Ground at the Snowfield (top-right door in Sharp Cliff II). Answer the 5 questions and return to Robeira. Now you are a F/P Mage!

With the new job come new skills.

Explosion Build – The cheaper but slower build

Level 70: 1 Explosion
Level 71: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 72: 3 Explosion
Level 73: 3 Explosion
Level 74: 3 Explosion
Level 75: 3 Explosion
Level 76: 3 Explosion
Level 77: 3 Explosion
Level 78: 3 Explosion
Level 79: 3 Explosion
Level 80: 3 Explosion
Level 81: 2 Explosion (maxed), 1 Magic Booster
Level 82: 3 Magic Booster
Level 83: 3 Magic Booster
Level 84: 3 Magic Booster
Level 85: 1 Magic Booster, 1 Elemental Amplification, 1 Seal
Level 86: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 87: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 88: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 89: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 90: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 91: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 92: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 93: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 94: 2 Elemental Amplification (maxed), 1 Poison Mist
Level 95: 3 Poison Mist
Level 96: 3 Poison Mist
Level 97: 3 Poison Mist
Level 98: 3 Poison Mist
Level 99: 3 Poison Mist
Level 100: 3 Poison Mist
Level 101: 3 Poison Mist
Level 102: 3 Poison Mist
Level 103: 3 Poison Mist
Level 104: 2 Poison Mist (maxed), 1 Magic Composition
Level 105: 3 Magic Composition
Level 106: 3 Magic Composition
Level 107: 3 Magic Composition
Level 108: 3 Magic Composition
Level 109: 3 Magic Composition
Level 110: 3 Magic Composition
Level 111: 3 Magic Composition
Level 112: 3 Magic Composition
Level 113: 3 Magic Composition
Level 114: 2 Magic Composition (maxed), 1 Partial Resistance
Level 115: 3 Seal
Level 116: 3 Seal
Level 117: 3 Seal
Level 118: 3 Seal
Level 119: 3 Seal
Level 120: 3 Seal

Alternatives: Some may switch Poison Mist with Elemental Amplification. Either is fine although EA makes all your attacks stronger. Also, some may put Magic Booster before Explosion. It may take a while, but afterwards the benefits will show.

Explanation: Everything is pretty straightforward here. The reason why there is 1 Partial Resistance is because 1 PR is a lot different than 0 PR and 19 Seal is not that much different from 20 Seal. The reason why there is only 11 Magic Booster instead of maxing it, is because at level 11 the casting speed increases more & doesn’t increase anymore if you continue to put points into it. Also, if you max it, you have less poitns for other skills. The one thing you may have noticed is that you put 1 of the attack you want to max on one level, and then max it out. There is a very specific point to this. Every three levels starting from level one, the range and mastery increases. Taking Explosion for example:

Level 1: MP -21, Attack 60, Mastery 15%, Range 110%
Level 2: MP -22, Attack 64, Mastery 15%, Range 110%
Level 3: MP -23, Attack 67, Mastery 15%, Range 110%
Level 4: MP -24, Attack 70, Mastery 20%, Range 120%
Level 5: MP -25, Attack 72, Mastery 20%, Range 120%
Level 6: MP -26, Attack 75, Mastery 20%, Range 120%
Level 7: MP -27, Attack 77, Mastery 25%, Range 130%

Doing the build above makes it so that every level your mastery and your range goes up.

Training Places:
70-75: White Pangs, Coolie Zombies, & Jr. Yetis (once you can OHKO)
76-90: Death Teddies & Ghost Pirates
80-95: Dual Ghost Pirates
95-105: Phantom Watches
105+: Grim Phantom Watches

Poison Mist Build – The more expensive but faster build (and I mean really fast)

Level 70: 1 Explosion
Level 71: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 72: 1 Elemental Amplification, 1 Seal, 1 Poison Mist
Level 73: 3 Poison Mist
Level 74: 3 Poison Mist
Level 75: 3 Poison Mist
Level 76: 3 Poison Mist
Level 77: 3 Poison Mist
Level 78: 3 Poison Mist
Level 79: 3 Poison Mist
Level 80: 3 Poison Mist
Level 81: 3 Poison Mist
Level 82: 2 Poison Mist (maxed), 1 Seal
Level 83: 3 Seal
Level 84: 3 Seal
Level 85: 3 Seal
Level 86: 3 Seal
Level 87: 3 Seal
Level 88: 2 Seal, 1 Magic Booster
Level 89: 3 Magic Booster
Level 90: 3 Magic Booster
Level 91: 3 Magic Booster
Level 92: 1 Magic Booster, 2 Elemental Amplification
Level 93: 3 Explosion
Level 94: 3 Explosion
Level 95: 3 Explosion
Level 96: 3 Explosion
Level 97: 3 Explosion
Level 98: 3 Explosion
Level 99: 3 Explosion
Level 100: 3 Explosion
Level 101: 3 Explosion
Level 102: 2 Explosion (maxed), 1 Elemental Amplification
Level 103: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 104: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 105: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 106: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 107: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 108: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 109: 3 Elemental Amplification
Level 110: 2 Elemental Amplification, 1 Magic Composition
Level 111: 3 Magic Composition
Level 112: 3 Magic Composition
Level 113: 3 Magic Composition
Level 114: 3 Magic Composition
Level 115: 3 Magic Composition
Level 116: 3 Magic Composition
Level 117: 3 Magic Composition
Level 118: 3 Magic Composition
Level 119: 3 Magic Composition
Level 120: 2 Magic Composition (maxed), 1 Partial Resistance

Alternatives: If you want Elemental Amplfication can be switched with Magic Composition, although I’m not recommending it. You can also put Partial Resistance a bit earlier if you want. Seal could also be held off until later levels if wanted.

Explanation: Once again, the 1,4,7,10 pattern appears here in every attacking skill. Seal is needed early because otherwise you’ll burn pots more than you’ll ever imagine.

Training Places:
70-75: White Panges, Coolie Zombies, & Jr. Yetis (once you can OHKO)
76-85: Death Teddies
85-92: Risell Squids, Dual Ghost Pirates, & Vikings
93-102: Phantom Watches & Risell Squids
102+: Grim Phantom Watches & Risell Squids

There is also a Magic Composition build, but I’m too lazy to put it up. If people want it, I will add it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What’s the difference between Staves and Wands?

A: There is absolutely no significant difference between them for non Fire Mages. However, for Fire Mages it is quite important. It affects the Explosion casting speed. The following tests shows how it affects the casting speed.

Without Booster:
Staff (Slow) – 17 times in 30 seconds
Wand (Normal) – 18 times in 30 seconds
Evil Wings (Fast) – 19 times in 30 seconds

With Level 11 Booster:
Staff (Slow) – 18 times in 30 seconds
Wand (Normal) – 19.5 times in 30 seconds
Evil Wings (Fast) – 21 times in 30 seconds

Conclusion: Explosion’s casting speed is based purely on the ‘Weapon Speed’ of the weapon that you are using.

Note: This is only for the skill Explosion, skills such as Fire Arrow, Magic Claw, Heal, Cold Beam, Ice Strike, Shining Ray, etc. does not apply.

Q: Does the ‘Weapon Speed’ of the weapon you use affect the casting speed?

A: Look at the answer above.

Q: About how fast is the Poison Mist build compared to the Explosion build?

A: I’ve heard reports of up to 30% per hour whereas the Explosion build is 12% per hour or so.

Q: If it’s that fast, how come most people don’t use that build?

A: It’s very expensive. If you’re careless, you can lose 3m+ per level. People that raise Explosion don’t lose nearly that much. People that raise Poison Mist have to rely heavily on drops, bad luck = no money. Although drops help, people that raise Explosion don’t really need to rely on the drops.

Q: Is Slow that useful?

A: Yes! Yes yes yes yes yes. Things that you train on in 3rd job hit like 1.5-2x your HP. Therefore you need to use Magic Guard. Using slow greatly reduces the amount of touch damage you get. Imagine yourself with max haste, and then imagine yourself w/o haste (no speed equips). That’s the difference Slow does.

Q: Is Poison Brace useful?

A: Not really. Most people just use it for fooling around. It’s quite fun running around with green, poisoned monsters all over the place.

Q: Is Magic Armor useful?

A: Not really, people sometimes substitute it for Poison Brace.

Q: When should I switch to Elixirs?

A: Technically, if you buy Elixirs for 5k each, 5k MP would be the ideal time to switch. However, sometimes arguing with noobs takes a bit longer so I’d say around 6k MP.

Q: How rich do F/P Wizards get?

A: In the late 60s is when F/P Wizards earn the most money. After training at Grupins for 10-15 levels, you can get 3~4m per level if you’re lucky. You do the math if you really want to know.

Q: How good is MP Eater?

A: It is really useful at Grupins. Personally, I have never ever used a MP potion at Grupins because of it. Unless I go crazy and start teleporting all over the place. In 3rd job it becomes practically useless though. The damage that you recieve overwhelms the ability to gain MP. Not to mention EA will make your skills cost more MP.

Q: Did you make this guide all by yourself?

A: Look at the credits section.
