Drops of rain splashed on the window. A bolt of lightning streaked across the gray sky. Thunder boomed through the walls of my room. I slowly got out of bed. Today was my 10th Birthday. I stared at my hands.

Inside I was bursting with joy. I couldn’t believe that I had already mastered all the mage classes and even “Point Zero” which let me use magic without the use of a wand or staff. My parents couldn’t believe it either, especially my mom, Helen. She was the daughter of Grendel one of the Four Great. My dad, David, was proud and often joked around with my mom that I had mastered all my skills while when she was my mage had barely managed her 1st job skills. My mom would usually point out that he hadn’t even started his 1st job skills when he was 10. Then they would both start laughing.

I quickly put on my Dark Chaos Robe and headed out of my room. Although I could wear any mage clothes I wanted anything better didn’t have the size that would fit my small body. We could’ve gotten custom robes but they didn’t want people getting suspicious of why a 10 year old needed such powerful mage clothes. That could help the officials find us.

Ever since the four great died officials of each class would look for any people with the royal blood in them. They would be taken to the head of what ever job and live with them. My mother wanted to be free and let me be free so we stayed in hiding.

I ran downstairs following the smell of food. In the kitchen my mother was making a big breakfast. My older sister, Ruby who is 15, was helping her. She was an archer after my dad. My dad was sitting at the table reading the paper. My younger brother, Kevin who is 7, was sitting on my dad lap. My older brother, Leon who is 13, wasn’t present. How could he anyway? He was in the basement.

“Hey.” I said sitting down.

“Happy Birthday!” they cheered.

We all ate breakfast which was great. After breakfast they gave me my presents. My mom gave me a small clear orb which she said would protect me from evil. Ruby handed me a small cake which she made herself. I took a bite and it was delicious. Kevin brother gave me a rock. It was just a rock but I somehow felt happy with it. My dad pulled something out of his pocket. He placed it on the table.

I picked it up and looked at it. My heart skipped a beat. It was an invitation to the Beta Guards.

“Although the age to enter is 13 I just though you could use it now as sort of a thing to keep you training hard.” He said. I jumped up and hugged him. I thanked everyone and grabbed a slice of cake.

“I’m going to bring this to Leon.” I said walking towards the basement door. My mother seemed worried but my father said I could go.

I unlocked all the locks and made my way down the stairs. It was dark in the basement. I flicked on the lights. In the center was a cage with a small figure inside. I peered inside.

“Hey Leon.” I called out.

“Hey Adrian.” He called back. He had chains tied around his arms and legs and neck. “Why are you down here?”

“It’s my birthday and I though you would like some cake.” I said opening the cage door. I walked inside and gave him the cake. His figure scared the rest of my family but I just treated him as if he was normal. Although I couldn’t ignore his two large red wings, tail, and claws.

“Here.” I gave him the slice of cake. He slowly ate it while the chains rattled.

“Did I ever tell you why I’m like this?” he asked after finishing his cake. I shook my head.

“Well I inherited all this from our father.”

I was shocked.

“Don’t be afraid.” He said softly.

“I’m not.” I managed to say. I’m terrified.

“Sometimes I just want to kill him.” He whispered. I slowly got up.

He caught my arm.

“What? Leaving already?” he asked. He brought me closer. I screamed and tried to break free.

“Your not going anywhere.” He whispered.

He raised a claw and slashed my arm. Blood oozed from the deep cut that stretched form my elbow to my hand. I let out a scream as pain pierced my mind. I tried to escape his grasp but it was too strong.

The tips of my fingers glowed blue as I used Magic Claw. I slashed at the air and blue slashes appeared on my brother’s face. He let go of me for a second and I ran for the door. I beam of red light missed my head by inches and hit the door. It started to melt.

I felt his arm grab my leg and trip me. He jumped on top of me and pinned me down. Black and red aura surrounded us both.

I tried to move but couldn’t. I felt my left arm burn as I saw the aura start to seep into my cut. I could feel myself growing wings and a tail while I could see Leon’s inhuman features start to disappear.

He finally let go of me. The aura had melted the chains holding him down.

“See ya lil bro.” he called out crawling out the basement window. I fell to the ground as my body started to twitch. The pain was almost unbearable.

“Adrian?” I heard my mother’s voice call out. I saw the rest of my family come downstairs. My head started to hurt and I felt myself feel dazed. My body started to move on its own and I heard screaming.

When I gained full control my breathing stopped.

“No….” I whispered. “Mom…”

Drops of blood fell to the ground. My hand was dug into my mom’s neck. She pulled out my birthday present form her. She put it around my neck.

“Squeeze it and you’ll return to normal. Save your brother…..” she whispered. Her eyes closed and her hands fell to her sides. I slowly pulled my hands out.

I grabbed the white orb and felt as if white light was pushing the darkness into the darkest corners of my body. I turned to my mother’s dead body. Beside her was my father…dead. Ruby was crying in a corner over another body.

I walked towards her and saw she was crying over Kevin. I grasped his hand. I could feel a soft pulse.

“Kevin. It’s alright you can come into my body..” I whispered. His body glowed golden and the golden light started to rush into my own body.

I fell to the ground. I started to black out. Hey Kevin..

Hey Adrian.., he replied from within my body.

When I woke up I was in a strange house.

Hey. Your up., Kevin’s voice said in my head.

“Can you please stop talking so loudly?” I said out loud.

“It’s decided. The kid’s delusional.” Said a strange voice. I quickly got out of the bed.

“How are you?” I asked raising my hands incase I needed to use some magic.

“I’m a friend of your parents. The name’s Dan.” Dan said holding his hand out. I shook it cautiously.

“Why am I here and where’s Ruby?” I asked still suspicious.

“The officials were looking for you. I brought you to my house in Henesys. And Ruby is in Ellinia making a grave for your parents. She’ll be back in a few days.” He said. His tone had a touch of sadness when he mentioned my parents.

I say we trust him, Kevin suggested.

“Maybe first we need to get you a new body.” I suggested back. Dan looked at me puzzled.

I mustered up energy into my palm. A blue orb was floating in my hand. I threw it in the air and it exploded into blue smoke. As the smoke cleared a small dragon was flapping in the air.

“Hey Adrian.” It said.

“Hey Kevin.” I replied back holding out my palm to let him land.

“Amazing..” Dan awed. “I’m guessing this is Kevin?” he asked extending a finger. Kevin shook it with his small blue arms.

“Nice to meet you.” He said cheerfully.

“Hey Dan?” I asked.

“Yeah?” he asked looking towards me.

“I want…umm….I want to become a Bandit.” I finally said. I eyed his Korean Fan waiting for his answer.

“Hmmm….alright. But let me warn you it isn’t an easy path.” He said playing with Kevin by trying to catch him in the air.

“Don’t worry I’ll try my best.” I said standing up feeling a little happiness inside me.

“Great. Training starts 5 a.m. tomorrow morning.” He said.

“5 a.m.?!” I gasped.

“Told you it wouldn’t be easy.” He started to laugh. A little smile stretched across my face.

Mom. Dad. I’m sorry. I’m sure you would want me to find Leon if you were still alive so that’s what I will do. And don’t worry I’m not hiding my gifts as a magician. I just need a way to find him easier without the officials catching me. I hope you aren’t mad.

I stared out the window. For a second I could almost feel my mother’s arms wrapped around me. I’m glad you guys aren’t.

It might seem a little boring but hey its just the prologue, just something to set up the plot. Anyways people in my story will be added on later.
