Nameless – Chapter 1

Uhm, I haven’t been here very long, and I haven’t read that many blogs, but I have seen a lot of Maple fanfiction around. I just love fanfiction and the ones I have read were really good, so I decided to try writing my own story. xD

The title “Nameless” isn’t because I couldn’t think of a title, it has to do with the story later on, in case anyone was wondering. o.o;

It may be a little on the boring side (at least to me lol) but here’s chapter 1.

“Could I ask your name?”

A question directed at me, but also a question that will never get a reply.

Chapter 1 – My Savior

I held my crystal staff high up in the air. Closing my eyes, I muttered under my breath a spell that might have been able to save me from the situation I was in. I chanted and chanted but nothing happened. Normally my staff should have glowed with a soft blue, but now, nothing. There wasn’t much time left. Two Bains were charging at me and I was cornered. I opened my eyes only to shut them tight again once I knew I was done for. Already exhausted and out of ideas as well as healing items, I let myself collapse down, kneeling and staring at the ground. “I guess… this is it, huh… Pfft, sucks to die like this.” I raised my head to stare at the ceiling. It was in a cave, so it wasn’t exactly a pretty sight. Lava dripped down from the top corners and the rock seemed to be worn out and flaking. For a moment I almost thought I saw writing, a message, etched on the wall. Unaware of the two creatures still charging at me, roaring and spewing out flames, I tried to decipher this code. “Jump… up…”

It seemed to be just a simple message. Strange that it would be in a place like this, but seeing as how I was trapped, I just obeyed what it said without really thinking. I got up using my staff as a boost, and used my remaining strength to jump as high as I could. A hand seemed to come from the cliff above me, reaching out trying to get ahold of my hand. Too bad I was too short. I couldn’t reach. I was about to fall back down with the Bains already waiting for me to feast on. Gravity was against me and so was Time. I cursed at them both. I didn’t know what else to do so I thrusted my staff as far as I could, hoping whoever it was could reach it, while I held on to the very end. The stranger did manage to barely grasp ahold of the crystal blade on the other end of my staff. I saw his hand bleed and heard a slight grunt. But nontheless, he pulled me up to the cliff he was on. Was it even a he? I wonder since my savior’s face was hidden by a hood he was wearing. But before I could even say anything, he was gone. He had vanished just as if he was a reflection of burning lava.

The message on the ceiling was however, still there, as well as a bloodstain on my staff from where he held onto the crystal blade. I looked down at the still roaring monsters. I almost laughed seeing how angry they were. They must have been starved seeing as how no one ever enters this cave being well over 100 degrees. Me being an ice mage, however, I could easily survive this kind of temperature. I looked up at the ceiling again, examining the message. It seemed to have been carved by someone shooting arrows. I looked back down, and searching for awhile I caught sight of silver glistening. Silver arrows? So it was an archer that saved me? I was almost completely drained of energy, and not really caring I layed myself down on the dirty floor. Smart move. “OWWWWWWWW!” I had lain down on a burning piece of lava, and now there was a hold in the back of my clothes. “Great… just… great. Wonderfully amazing, just plain FABULOUS,” I sighed with sarcasm. “At least I’m not dead, and it didn’t scortch my skin, oddly enough, either.” I reached into my bag to look for something to cover the giant hole in the back of my outfit, which simply consisted of a long black robe, decorated with symbolic runes; nothing too flashy. I didn’t find much, other than a Return to Town Scroll. A Return to Town Scroll. A RETURN TO TOWN SCROLL?! WHY COULDN’T I HAVE JUST USED THIS? I pondered at how I could be so stupid sometimes. I used the scroll and found myself back at the beautiful city of El Nath. I hated El Nath, but what position was I in to complain? Only then did I remember why I went to that Hell on Earth.

“That’s right… I was supposed to go fetch back a Bain’s collar for whats-his-face. OH GREAT. I GET TO GO BACK THERE NOW! BACK TO MY GRAVE. WHOO.” I twitched at this thought with an expression of annoyance plastered on my face. Turning around, I saw that someone was behind me, staring at me like I was crazy. I wasn’t in the mood to deal with people, and angrily I snapped, “What do you want?!” I was glaring at him, half twitching, but his gaze back at me was so emotionless, it made me even more angry. “There’s a hole in your dress,” he said simply. “AND WHY ARE YOU LOOKING? YOU PERV!” I was about to punch him in the face, but he suddenly exploded with laughter. His face was turning bright red, and I couldn’t help but laugh, either. So we both just stood there, laughing our little heads off as passerbys stared at us with the strangest looks.

“So… what happened?” he asked me, still chuckling. “Nothing happened,” I bluntly replied, turning my head away and looking at the sky. He then took my hand and stared at my face, asking, “It’s a nice night tonight, isn’t it?” His eyes were locked with mine and I began to feel red with embarassment. I wasn’t good with looking at people in the eye. “Y-yeah… so??” I looked away from him again, my face still red. He still held my hand. “L-let go!”, I muttered, but he just smiled. “Sorry,” he said, and let go. “Well, it was nice meeting you. See you around.” He looked at me one last time, and headed towards the inn, somewhat dragging his footsteps. I just stared after him, flustered with a dumb look on my face. I then noticed that there was a scar on the palm of his hand. And when he held my hand, I could feel that it was freshly cut. I began to become suspicious. “Nah, couldn’t be,” I thought silently to myself. It was around dinnertime, and I was getting hungry. The streets were being covered with fresh snow and the atmosphere felt bittersweet. I looked up at the falling snow with my eyes closed and stuck my tongue out, catching a huge snowflake. Once again I acted stupid. “OWW! COLD! COLD!” I whined with my tongue still out of my mouth. I didn’t know then, but through a window in the inn across from me, someone was watching me and lightly laughing.
