Why Does Hybrid Equate Stupid? ;-;

I have a Hybrid Bandit. For those of you who don’t know what Hybrids are, it means that you create a character of a certain class and rather flip-flop back and forth between (essentially) different weapons. Two common Hybrid types are Hybrid Spearman and Hybrid Bandits, commonly referred to as “Bansins” and other nicknames I can’t quite remember right now.

Anyway. Yes, I went through my Rogue levels with a claw and stars, and, at level 31, still do more damage with them than I would with a dagger. But regardless, when people look at my job, I get many F6s, and they ask, “Why do you use a claw when you’re a bandit?”

My answer: “I’m a Hybrid.”

Most people leave me alone after that. Whether they know what I mean, I really can’t say. I usually don’t get asked what a Hybrid is.

Earlier today (or, I guess yesterday, seeing as my clock now reads 1:15 a.m.), while I was jumping around and Lucky Seven-ing Boars in Land 1, I got the same question, and gave my same answer. But it was the reply I received that inspired me to write this blog.

“That’s stupid. You’re just lazy.”

Me: “…Sorry, what do you mean?”

“You’re taking the easy way in leveling.”

Pardon me? Dost thou not know that Hybrid leveling is -harder- after the 2nd Job advancement than Pures? Do you not realize that Hybrids are often extremely unstable in damage?

“Not really. I’m not going to get a good Savage until my 40s…I’m trying to get Haste first.”

“That’s dumb.”

Then another Hybrid Bandit walked by and they started arguing, and I quietly left to go see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. =P

Getting back home and thinking about it, I had to wonder why people are so hung up on having “Perfect” characters. Ok, if you want your’s to be just that good, then fine, do what you want. But keep your opinions (especially if they are rude ones) to yourself in regards to how other people wish to craft their characters.

My hybrid is my secondary character, a sort of project in the works for when I get tired of training my main character. In all honesty, I started her because a few of my friends were creating hybrid and specialy characters, like HP Warriors. One of my friends’ main character is actually built on mastered Heal, but she’s a solo cleric and plans on getting a mixture of both Holy Arrow and supportive skills. As for me, I’m not following any sort of guide, either, now that I’ve reached Banditdom. I’m choosing to get Haste over Savage Blow at the moment because I love the speed that comes with maxed Haste. Sure, training will be hard, my damage will be horribly low, and I’ll probably be stuck at Boars for who-knows-how-long, but I’ll be fast. And I like being fast. As my friend says, “Have ninja, will travel.” xD

Point of this mini-rant: Do what you want with your characters. I’m sure so many other people have already said this, but I’ll reiterate: It’s a game. Games are meant to be fun, not obsessive-compulsive-culturing fiends that drive you to have the perfect character.

Yes, I’ll probably moan and gripe about my instability at times, but that’s natural even if you don’t have a weird character. It’s supposed to be all just for fun.

So the moral of my story is:

I should stop answering people when they ask. I’d get less annoyed. =P

  1. I agree. Perfection is easier to achieve in a game, and that’s why so many people try for it, I guess. To the point of flaming others who are happy to be flawed. >_>

Oh, yes, are you sure that the. . .person. . .you encountered who was your inspiration typed coherently and using proper punctuation? =P

And I want to watch that movie. D= Is it worth it?

I may have paraphrased for him. xD

And yes, if you’re a fan of the first movie, you’ll like this one. =D It’s pretty long, but good. ^_^

  3. WELL SAID, peopele shouldn’t care what char. other people have
they are probs just jealous of how cool bansin’s are

  4. I admire those who go for hybrids, because its a risk to make one.O_O
I mean its a risk in a way that you may have to spend more time lvling or having a weaker character.
On the other hand, you may discover a more powerful combination of ap & sp for your character

  5. Lol, sweet. I don’t really see a problem with hybrids >_> (Also: wasn’t PotC great ;o lol<3) Aanyway, this perfect character business is nonsense. Something is only perfect in your own eyes, and what I consider perfect is actually way less than that. What I mean is, my character can have only a +6 attack weapon, not the best armor, stats that are not 4/4, and (for non mages) not have a work glove. And it would be perfect to me, because having those items, as I’ve found, makes slow leveling hopeless–so you have the best items you can get, and training is still slow. You can’t do anything about it. (Whereas if you don’t have those things, you can just keep working on it and. . . this probably doesn’t make any sense. I’m stopping now ^^; )
