Maple History Book II

The Expansions

And so, Wizet has created the most magnificent looking world in Cyberspace. But it was still lacking something. After thinking for a very very long time, he raised his eyebrows, smiled, and exclamied, “I’ve got it! I’ll have clear away some forests and put in some towns!” Wizet was just about the scrap away three quarters of the forests when he noticed something. The forests in the northern part of MapleStory had a horrible drought and dried out. It was now a scorching rockland where barely any vegetation could survive. “Well, that’s a start. I’ll name this place Perion.” He scrapped away the west side and built Kerning City, the urban town. “This town shall be looking like some of those towns on Earth!” He scrapped away the south side, and built a peaceful town called Henesys. The east side of MapleStory was still covered in forests. “This shall be called Ellinia,” he said. He charmed each town with some magical powers, and gave the forest all the rest. And the four towns were established.

Wizet renamed this island Victoria Island, and made MapleStory the name of the flat corner of all which he took control of. He summoned the testers out of his palm again. “I have diversified the environment. See how you like it now!” said Wizet. The testers scrambled onto the island, and they were captured in awe. They stared at the sunburned peaks of Perion, watched the Kerning City Sunset, strolled around Henesys, and admired the beauty of Ellinia. “It is awesome,” they said. “But on the other hand, there is still nothing to do for the players besides sightseeing.” Wizet frowned. “Perhaps if you put some animals on the land. Some safe ones that aren’t dangerous,” suggested the testers. Wizet agreed and held his hand above the island. Snails, stumps, slimes, and mushrooms appeared on land. The testers jumped back on the island and started whacking the monsters with their swords. “It is great fun!” they said. “In fact, you ought to put even some more species onto the land, but none that are stronger than us.” Wizet put more monsters onto the land, and classified their strength as levels. He did not put anything on stronger than level 30. He did not want too much violence.

Finally, the day came. He annouced to Earth that his new game was up and running. And it is the first ever game that is flat! About ten thousand people went to try it out. They started killilng things to become stronger. Everyone said it was great fun. They could chose to be a warrior, magician, bowman, or thief. But there was one thing that Wizet noticed. Almost all the newcomers died from higher level monsters. So he came up with a solution. He tore off a tiny bit of Victoria Island, put many snails and weak mushrooms on it, and raised it high in the sky. He called this island Maple Island. Newcomers could come and train there and go to Victoria Island when they were ready. Therefore, he added a port called Lith Harbor.

With that, everyone was happy. More people came to try the new game. But as they progressed farther into the game, there were less challenges, less adventures, as everything was weak for them. Whenever a player reached level 30, they quit. Wizet noticed this problem and pondered on it for three months. How was he supposed to put extremely strong evil monsters onto his world? Wizet didn’t know how to create evil.

Little did he know, the land was at work already…
