Events. GMs. These are my thaughts.

These two things are starting to wear my patience down.

I am in the server, Khaini. I’ve been there since after I got hacked in Scania, quit MS then returned several months later. When my cleric, my first character in this server was a newbie it wasn’t that rare to see notices from the GMs even if only to say that a hacker had been banned. As time went on, I faught, leveled, talked with people and the sort. These notices, became almost non-existant.

I’d be droning on, to explain where this started, but I’ll skip to what really bugged me about today.

Suddenly, while I’m training at Coolies, there’s a super-mega saying that there’ll be an event and moments later, a notice. Something along the lines of, “Find me and get a prize!” There were only three chances given. Three people given prizes. How many people do you think participated in that event. A hundred? A thousand? Ten-thousand? However many there were, I ask you only this:

Was this event meant to be fun, or simply a waste of time, and a creator of dissappointment?

The GMs of today, don’t seem to care anymore. Or, they don’t think far enough ahead. They apparently think that the excitement generated by a chance to see a GM, and a mere few prizes given out is enough. I think it’s bullcrap. A complete, and utter, waste of time. That’s all that event was. What they should have been doing is catching hackers and getting them banned, silently or not.

If I were a GM; heck, if I could even show a GM where the hackers were, I’d be able to cut down the amount by 80% at LEAST. But no… GMs remain hidden from the key few in society that could help them make a difference.

Don’t try to argue with me on how busy GMs are, because I honestly doubt they’re so much so, that they can only find a handful of hackers and ban them, every few weeks…

Tell me the name of even one active GM in Khaini, and I will find a way to convince them to follow me to the hacker population’s diminishing.

But my thaughts on events still stand. They are a waste of time, if only a literal few people get anything but crushed hopes out of it.

  1. Hello? They created this for us for free? And now we’re complaining about them? What the heck. . .

  2. If not for gms how do you think patches came about? How did the glorious dragon knight heaven, the deep sea gauge, x2 experiece cards or even 3rd job advancement become accessible to us without the help of our wonderful gms and wizet?

  3. Have you ever consider how long it takes a person, lets say a hacker who gets banned, to go to hotmail or some other free e-mail site, make a new e-mail address, go back to mapleglobal, and make a new account? Not that long. So hackers will just keep coming.

  4. Yeah, this makes perfect sense, especially when we take into account you know how many people are banned a day. Wait, you don’t. That means your making random inferences, inferences not based on facts, but on personal assumptions, and these inferences are leading to your negative judgement. Go look at one of the people who did win the event; they blogged on this site. All the winners got was GM buffs. You’re going to pitch a fit over that? From what I heard plenty of people won; it wasn’t one person per event.

You really think it’d be that easy to get rid of hackers? Wizet requires solid proof that someone was hacking. Contrary to popular opinion, that means the GM seeing them in action. A screenshot may get your complaint higher up on the list, but in order for the GM to ban anyone they need solid proof. As long as it’s not in the ToS that Wizet reserves the right to cancel your account without reason, they might be afraid of litigation for banning without justification. Plus, as lightsage57 said, hackers can easily make a new account, and even if Wizet was to IP ban it’d still be extremely easy to get a new IP. Simply because they can’t keep hackers out of MS doesn’t mean they aren’t trying. The population of the game is going up, and with it, the population of hackers. While the ratio of hackers to players may be relatively low, the numbers themselves are getting bigger with each day. The GM’s can’t eliminate hackers; get over it.

As a side note, GMs do not make patches. That is done by coders. You don’t think Wizet is only a team of a handful of juvenile coders who handle everything do you? No, if that was the case, we’d never get a patch. GMs don’t make patches or create new items; they do just what their title says they do: moderate the game.

As another side note, don’t try that “lyke haxors have NX & GMs r greedi so dey dunt ban dem” crap. I don’t know this for a fact, but it’s safe to assume that they’re paid hourly, regardless of how much money the company itself makes. You didn’t think NX went directly to GMs did you?

  5. Lightsag57– Have you ever thaught of the word ‘discouraging’? If you think that a hacker will want to get to anywhere between levels 40 and 140, and have to start over, and over, and over again? Coming back is one thing, but even hacking takes time that they wont want to repeat.

Tarheel91– Consider this: Do you ever see GMs outside of events? Do you ever see a hacker banning in the process? No. Or at least I havn’t and I’ve been around long that I should have seen it at least once. But I havn’t. That’s proof enough for me that they’re not getting their job done in a manner that I could uphold 10 times better, if given the chance. And yes, I will make a fit about it, because that’s why events like that are pointless. They get people worked up over nothing, and leaves the vast majority disappointed. And no, plenty of people DIDN’T win. This event only had three winners, exactly.

Yes, I do. There are enough GMs that if they actually worked at this for a change, then there would be a great difference, but they don’t. And jeez, if they need proof, just go to Hectors, Yetis, Plateons, Wraiths, Ghost Pirates, Buffys, etc. They’re EVERYWHERE, but GMs apparently don’t take the time to look. Heck, if they want easy proof, they could simply look on Basilmarket. There’s loads of videos and screenshots of hackers there that they could use. And again, yes they can make a difference. Like I said to Lightsage57, even hackers get discouraged after a while. I have a few hackers as friends simply because I’ve given up caring about what exactly they do, because I can’t do anything about it. But I know what happens when bannings happen around them. They do fear for their accounts, because they’ve put what small effort they needed to into gaining what large sums of wealth and/or power they have. Those that don’t care if they’re banned, wont make new accounts because they simply don’t care enough to do it again, or they’ll make a new account and not hack.

I can agree with that and I was going to say that. GMs and coders are two completely different things.

The NX goes to the entire company, yes and it funds their paychecks as well, whether partly or fully I don’t know. And, hackers don’t make up the majority of NX baught. I myself have baught around $65 alone on NX, [hopefully less, when the stuff expires]. Who knows how much people have spent on megaphone spamming.

I will submit my arguments, but I assure you that I back them up with decent intellegence, unlike many people you find on the internet that tLk lYk3 Th1z.
