Take These Wings & Learn To Fly – 2

Chapter Two: Ossyria and Irony

Ehh, I haven’t been writing much have I..? D:
I decided to change the plot I had planned for this story a bit, so yeah.
Don’t kill me if this chapter sucks, I was really sleepy when I wrote this.
To make up for the lack of good writing I bring you sketches of Alyandra and Semper (A character whom you will show up in this chapter). I had a picture of Hiro too, but I decided not to upload it since it looks really ugly. (I can’t draw Kages.) >__>;;

Btw. The pics are too big so I’ll give you the link instead.
There’s no way I can make tham small enough that they still meet my expectations. D:

Enjoy. <3

(Ugh, I’m going to end up rewriting this crappy chapter. :/)

The floor was covered with ashes and charred pieces of wood. Every book had fallen off their rightful place on the shelves and has been scattered across the room. Tiles were missing, windows were smashed; there was only one word to describe this; a wreck.

Alyandra exhaled noisily, Hiro had asked her to help the Grendel restore the library back to its former state, but it seemed harder than it sounded.

No matter how much she swept, dusted, and swiped, it never seemed any cleaner. Arranging the books was even more difficult; the exact placement for each book was almost impossible for her to figure out.

Alyandra slumped against the windowsill fiddling with a pencil she had found earlier as she watched the other mages repair the windows and roof. How come she got stuck with the lame jobs while the other volunteers got fun and exciting ones? She continued to twist and bend the pencil with every envious thought that filled her head, snapping the pencil into two on cue. She sighed, allowing the pieces to roll to the ground.
“If you’re not going to help, you might as well go home.” Kamara said in a tone as strict as her brother’s. Kamara was only a year older than Alyandra, and she had already completed her second advancement and was a powerful fire wizard who was swollen with pride, seeing that she was one of the youngest magicians of her generation to pass the job testing with flying colours.

“Whatever.” Alyandra sighed, pacing towards the door. Today was so boring! Everyone was either busy cleaning or training. Even Hiro was busy today, she had no one to neither play with nor pester with her presence.

“What’s with the long face?” A familiar voice asked. Alyandra looked at Semper with a surprised look, he slowly walked towards her with a basket in hand.

Semper was dubbed Alyandra’s best friend and had earned the name ‘Hawk Eye,’ for he was one of Athena Pierce’s best students. He has only recently turned thirteen and was nearing his third job advancement.

“Eh, it’s nothing,” Alyandra replied coolly. “What are you doing here anyway?”

“Well, mother wanted me to deliver some of her special unagis to one of her distant friends in Orbis.” He said gesturing with his hands.

Semper was the son of Rina of Henesys, who was well known for her special unagis and kindness towards beginners who came to Henesys to become archers.

“You’re headed to Ossyria! COOL!” Alyandra replied excitedly, forgetting why she was even upset in the first place, “Can I come too? Oh please, please, please?” Alyandra has never been anywhere outside of Victoria Island, she always had an urge to travel.

“Well, alright, let’s go.” Semper replied with a wide smile, grabbing Alyandra’s arm, dragging her to the docks.

“Oh wow! This is amazing!” Alyandra exclaimed as they boarded the ship, it was so big! The details and designs were colourful and wonderful to look at in Alyandra’s opinion. The sails were wide and creamy white. Alyandra couldn’t help but squeal in excitement.

“Don’t get too excited,” Semper chuckled, “It isn’t as great as you would think.”

“What are you talking about Semper?!” Alyandra huffed, “It’s amazing!” Alyandra ran to the bow of the boat, stretching her arms out, feeling the gentle wind on her face. Purin than rang the bell, sining that they were about to departure.

“Neh, Alyandra, come into the cabin.” Semper said firmly, opening the small wooden door.

“Wh-why?” Alyandra said in an upsetting tone, “I want to stay out here.” She furrowed her eyebrows as Semper replied with a headshake.

“Come inside and then I’ll tell you why.”

Alyandra groaned and followed Semper into the cabin. There was nothing interesting in the cabin, nothing but creaky wooden floorboards, a couple of small crates, and the dim glow of a small lantern.

Alyandra then noticed a warrior sat in the bottom corner. He was still as stone. His DarkDragon Babuta helmet covered his face. Adjacent to him was a Heaven’s Gate and a tiny black kitten that seem to be napping. Alyandra turned her attention back to Semper as he spoke.

“I don’t want to scare you or anything,” Semper said solemnly, taking a seat on the musty ground, “But if you stay out there, there’s not a large chance that you may survive.”

“Huh? What do you mean?” Alyandra asked, placing a finger on her chin.

“There’s a monster that’s called a Crimson Balrog that comes in this huge ship and attacks the boat every now and then.” Semper explained.

“WHAT?” Alyandra began to panic. “Then we’re all going to DIE!” She cried, emphasizing the word ‘die.’

“No,no, don’t panic Alyandra, we’re safe in here,” Semper sweatdropped, shaking his hands furiously; children these days, always overreacting. “The ship is protected by a barrier you can say. The Balrog can’t get us in here.”

“Oh, okay than!” Alyandra said, sticking out her tongue, red from embarrassment.

As soon as Alyandra finished her last sentence, the boat began to shake. Alyandra quickly hid behind Semper, even though he had assured her that they were safe, she was still startled.

“We’re going to be okay, Alyandra.” Semper said with a smile.

“S-Semper, if we’re so safe, what’s that…?” Alyandra stuttered, pointing towards a pair of sharp nails sinking in the bow of the boat. The wood slowly began to crack. The bow of the boat was destroyed completely as a pair of beady, red eyes peered at Semper and Alyandra who shared back at the creature in dismay.

“B-Balrog…” Semper shuddered.

How ironic was this…?
