Maple Adventures Series 1 Part 2

That night I wondered what to pack.

Me: (talking to myself) Hmmm… if I’m going to hunt monsters, I’ll need a weapon. Too bad I don’t have one. I’ll just have to buy one in town. I’ll need food and money… Lesse, a sleeping bag and a tent. Clothes…… potions……… I think I’m set here.

The next day I went to town. I saw Mike and Rowen waiting in town with bags too. They got permission from their dad! As we walked along the dirt path towards Maple Island, we noticed the road got emptier and emptier. Finally, we reached the Gate area of the village that’s where 4 volunteers tested travelers and guarded the town from monsters. We entered Gate One, home of Sara and her hardworking sister.

Sara: Yawn….. Oh, you’re here to be taught how to survive huh? Well to survive, you’ve got to show respect for others. Gate Two is the test for courtesy. Well, fetch me a mirror from my sister.
Me: here you go Sara!
Sara: Good, good, good. Let’s see… no sunburn….. Oh! You’re still here. Well, you passed. You’ve earned experience in which you level up with. But I’m not supposed to teach you that, Peter is.

We moved on to Gate Two, occupied by Nina and Sen. Supposedly the testers for what se learned in Gate One.

Nina: Hi beginners, can you do me a favor?

Mike started to say “No, we want to be tested” But Rowen nudged him and whispered “Shhhh, I bet this is the test for courtesy!”

Me: Yes, what do you need?
Nina: I need to know what to cook for dinner. Can you please ask Sen what he wants?
Mike: Sure thing, Miss.

We went inside the house and found that it was amazingly clean. Mike heard a moan from the kitchen. Rowen rushed inside and we heard a conversation in act.

Rowen: Are you Sen?
Sen: Yea….. Sooo…. Hungry…..
Rowen: Well your sister wants to know what you want for dinner.
Sen: Tell her I want….. Mushroom Soup….
Rowen: Thank you.

Rowen came out and told us that Sen wanted Mushroom Soup. We went outside and told Nina that.

Nina: Thank you. You have passed the test. I just gave you experience. More than Sara did, I bet. If she hates Gate duty so much, then why did she volunteer for it.

We moved on to Gate Three, feeling like heroes. We met Peter, who was the instructor of battle. He challenged us to a fight. We, of course, had to accept. We ended up with pain everywhere. And he was only using his left hand!

Peter: Surprised? Of course. Why do you think I’m on Gate duty if I’m not strong? Well we can’t leave you like that. Take these apples. A lot of people think food just quenches your starvation, but it does much more. It actually heals you!

We took the apples and munched on them. Slowly, we felt our energy coming back to us. Mike was the first to speak.

Mike: Wow! Does that mean Red Potions can heal you like crazy?
Peter: *shakes head* You were half right. Red Potions DO heal you more than normal. But it just so happens that Red Potions are the weakest of the line in potions.
Rowen: That’s amazing!
Peter: You fought me with your fists. Do you happen to have a weapon?
Me: No. We were hoping to buy some, but we couldn’t find any weapon shop.
Peter: Of course not. Mushroom town is a peaceful village. Hardly anybody is armed.
Me: So that means…..
Peter: If it weren’t for the Gates and their enchantments, Mushroom Town would be ashes by now.
Mike: Wow, so we need to get a weapon as soon as possible.
Peter: Here take these Swords, they’re spares anyway.

We thanked Peter and moved on to Gate four, the last and final gate. There, we saw slightly weakened monsters and a strong looking man sitting on a bench. We asked the man what the monsters were doing there.

Robin: Do you like them? I caught them in Orbis tower and weakened them so I could raise a herd of Jr. Sentinels.
Rowen: Yea, but what are they for?
Robin: Training of course. The best way for you to learn to kill a monster is to actually do it! Take heed though. I weakened them WAY below normal level. It takes a Level 28 Magician 2 hits just to kill it! These monsters are not even stronger than Snails!

We took his directions and killed a few of his monsters. It was a fierce fight. The Jr. Sentinels seemed to get annoyed very quickly. We never let a single one touch us, although I doubt that they could’ve done any damage to us at all. Robin asked if we ever done it before. We said no. Then Robin told us that we were naturals at hunting monsters!

Robin: There! Now you’re set for traveling. The last tip I can give you is that DON’T risk your life to kill a few monsters. Whenever your getting beat or battered, take the time to drink a potion, or hide and rest for a while.

We thanked him and set out to travel. We ended up in an area Rowen’s map called “Snail Hunting Ground 1.” I could see why they called it that. There was nothing but snails as far as the eye could see! We took the time to kill a few of them. It still took us about 3-4 hits to kill them. This time, we really got hurt. I could see that Robin’s warning was correct. We trained until sunset, where we made our camp. We had a fun time comparing the money we gained, items we found and strategies we learned.

Suddenly, something moved. Rowen softly told us what she saw. She still was really shy around me…. Mike and I stood up and looked around. It was too late, the shady figure had disappeared.

TO BE CONTINUED…..
Hoped you enjoyed it!
