The Downsides of a Good Samaritan…

I can’t remember the last time I couldn’t afford the Taxi…

Today’s world of Maple is full of Hackers, Scammers, and Beggers (The HSB). Beggers are nothing new, Scammers have been around for a while, and Hackers are on a rise. Not many people trust each other anymore, other then the few friends people have made. This is especially true in Bera.

And with Getas, Scrolls, and other items growing in price, it’s a more greedy world.

Then there are the few people who help out every now and then. Appears out of the blue, and drops helpful equipment or mesos to the lower levels. Giving some light to those down on their luck. I did that a few days ago.

I didn’t imagine a downside to it.

A new Thief, fresh out of Beginner-hood, going Bandit. I have a soft-spot for Bandits starting out with nothing (As I once was). So, I followed him into the store, watching the rants of others with the high prices of new equipment. So, I bought new equips for all. I didn’t need anything in return, just a thank you (Which I got plenty of). Why don’t other people help out others like this? I did this for about 20 minutes, costing me about 200-300K. I didn’t care that I needed 17 Million in 3 levels.

That is, until the next day.

I get a whisper while training at Jr. Wraiths (Searching for Dagger Scrolls). Apparently, the brother of the thief who I helped out the other day. He only needed level 15 equipment. There’s no harm in that. So I gave him all I could find, and a Panlid I found earlier, too. Panlids prices are declining enough already. No harm in that.

I didn’t expect that it would lead to a downfall.

Basil Market. Wonderful place, no? Especially with scrolls as cheap as they are there. I made a deal there, Dagger Scroll for 800K. In today’s market, a very good deal. In a few months market, insanely high price.

I should of thought ahead.

I had enough money, and that one lower level came back on, asking for 10K, and a throwing star. I recently found Kumbis, so I gave him that, and a little extra. Yet, annoyance comes.

He should begin to fend for himself.

Today, I get on. He asks for more. I gave him a last amount, and tell him a long speach about how life goes on, and about fending for your own market. It doesn’t seem to make an impact on him. I have 2 Alien Sacks, a Trojan Sack, and a Robot Sack. It would be fun to give him a taste of not listening.

But I’m not that kind of person.

So, I tell him, “ASK ME NO MORE!” or something to that extent, and he leaves. Then, the person who I bought the scroll from on Basil Market comes on.

I’m below 100K for the bid.

I sell some Etcs, but it’s still not enough. Luckily, he accepts some Drake’s Meat to make ends meet. I got lucky.

Now I sit here, broke. 17 million more to go for my weapon and hat.

Good thing there are still some good Samaritans in this world. Too bad there’s no reward for it…

  1. It’s nice that you help noobs out, just don’t let them take advantage of you.
The same thing happened to my cousin and he got scammed out of his Kadine (worth 5.2 mil) and Tobis. =/

  2. dude.that SUXS i can help u out if ur in bera i can give u some mesos,if u want whisper me. kigaz u dont have to take it but thats wat happens when u do good things for ppl, =/

  3. give some, but dont give what you need, i try to help, but not get myself broke

  4. Well i was helping this girl to beggin her journey as a magician, well i bought her equipments pots and i gifted her some money, Now she wants me to lvl her ._.

  5. “Good things come to those who wait.” Surely you must feel great about doing what you did. I know I would! Also, these things have a way of evening out. I bet you good money that you find something rare and expensive, or at least something good will happen to you! (Yeah, I’m superstisious. And I also spelled that wrong.)

  6. I think of doing good deeds as improving my karma. The good intentions always return to you in one form or another 😀 Maybe a lvl 100 will run into you and go, “Ah, i remember being that level, here, take this, “

  7. I think that doing little things like that definitely are good, i do them all the time. I have to admit, though, it gets very annoying when some person keeps begging you for more items and stuff. For example, i gave away a clean 52 atk k fan to this girl bandit, and she apparently told all her friends and I had a group of people whisper and chat invite me. Hey, i still give away stuff though.

  8. Ouch most of the time I just ignore begging or say “Nah” but I hope you get repayed with luck in drops or something or just pure kindness from people who read this blog.

  9. I only give things to my friends, like my noob lvl 11 friend stuff like Idk, 10k, lvl 13 equips, and occasionally I’d get my lvl 21-going-on-22 friend some level 20 equips rather than level 15 equips, but not neccessarily random people. Abubica makes an excellent point. But next time you do something like that, I would say tell them something like ‘please don’t tell anyone I gave you this’ instead of saying nothing.

  10. Hope you get your money back, btw. That really sux u lost almost all of it, too.

  11. Actually, after giving the items away, I wished them “Good luck on their Maple Career”, hasted them, and left. I don’t do good things then leave by saying nothing. That’s like going: “Here, take this, now leave.” That’s just rude.

  12. I find any time I give stuff away I get instant “friends” that bother me for stuff every time I’m on. So I try to resist helping people out,
