Persistence ~ Ch.3

Anyhow, here is chapter three of my story.

You’ll be confused as hell unless you read the others first,
Don’t blame me, blame the plotbunnies.

Chapter Three

Ceana just stood there, feet glued to the ground, with a look on her face slightly resembling a deer caught in headlights. Her nerves had still not settled from earlier, and taking two rounds of stress in one day was beginning to prove too much for our poor, ill-fated young girl.

Her thief stranger. Standing right in front of her, no less than a foot away. Her legs began to feel numb and unable to support the rest of her body, and her mind began to panic.

What was one to do in a situation like this? The bit of Ceana’s brain that was not shocked and scrambled beyond repair tried quickly to come up with an escape route, but none surfaced.

She heard him say something, in a low quiet voice, but as usual she was lost in her own thoughts, not hearing a word her thief stranger had just spoken.

Just run away? No, too obvious. Tell him you were on your way to the ladies room? No, too forward…and a bit strange. Maybe…

Ceana’s thoughts were cut short when a face appeared no more than two inches away from her own– and the voice that had been tuned out before was much, much clearer now.

“…You there?”

“A-AH! Yes, yes! I’m sorry, I’m really sorry, I wasn’t…paying…attention…”

Oh, that was brilliant Ceana, just stunning. Marvelous.

Ceana could feel all the blood within her body rush to her face, wishing for nothing more than to stab herself in the heart with the closest razor-sharp object and bleed to death on the floor of the café.

Okay, maybe that was a bit too harsh. Let’s just say she wanted to disappear.

But then all of a sudden an arm enclosed around her and her thief strangers lips locked with hers and she lost her breath and—

And then she woke up.

Ceana’s eyes adjusted slowly to the dim sunrise, in what appeared to be a hospital room. Had she dreamt that whole scene? But then…how did she end up in a hospital? Where was her thief stranger?

Ceana sat up quickly in the bead and flung her head around in every direction, panic overtaking her— she had no idea what had happened to her, she needed to find Derek, or someone, or…wait, had Derek been a dream too?

Her heart raced, and she felt as if she were about to hyperventilate when suddenly a hand grabbed her shoulder tightly and steadied her, gently pushing her head back towards her pillow. She looked up.

Her thief stranger was standing by the bed, looking down at her.

Oh. God.

“Um…I…” Ceana tried to explain, but then…wait, what was she explaining? She didn’t even know what was going on. Sighing, she adjusted her head onto the pillow so that her neck stopped aching, and faced defeat.

“Before you passed out I was aski–”

“My bag!”

“…”

“Where is it! My bag?”

He pointed with his finger.

Ceana turned to see her bag of items resting safely beside her, not damaged or rummaged through. There was one thing she could stop worrying about, at least.

There was still the problem that her thief stranger, in the flesh, was standing beside her hospital bed. His deep melancholic voice was probably enough to make her pass out again, right then and there.

“Oh, I-I interrupted. I’m sorry, I’m just really–”

Silence.

“Y-yea.” Her own voice drifted away.

More silence. Her thief stranger wasn’t turning out to be the talkative type.

“Before you passed out, I was asking you where I had seen you before.”

“How did I get here?” Ceana quickly asked. She was going to avoid answering his question at all costs.

“I had to carry you.”

“Oh ok, you had to…WHAT!? You carried me!?”

Silence.

“…Did you look through my bag!?” Oh god, if he had seen the blue potion, what would he have thought? That she had been stalking him all this time? Or did he even remember that day? But he did say he had recognized her from somewhere…oh no, oh no…

“No.”

Ceana looked under the covers, seeing that she was wearing a hospital gown.

“You didn’t…change me into this, did you?”

Silence.

“You’re not answering my question…” She spoke more to herself than him, out loud.

“You’re not answering mine.”

One point thief stranger, zero points Ceana.

She was clueless what to do next. She had no more ways of avoiding the question that he was urging her to answer. Once she gave him one, he would probably just leave. She didn’t want him to. She wanted to savor this moment just a bit longer.

“N-No. I…don’t think we have.”

“Oh, really?” He said, sounding a bit skeptical. The most emotion she had ever heard in his voice since the first time they had met. His emerald eyes glimmered for a split second behind his dark unruly bangs.

“Well, I have to go. Goodbye for now, Ceana.” He said as he walked out the door, disappearing from sight.

She sighed yet again, leaning back further into her pillow. She had managed to hide her cover for now, but things were becoming much more difficult as she kept this scheme up.

‘Wait a second’…Ceana thought to herself.

She quickly replayed his last words in her head, ‘Goodbye for now, Ceana.’

He knew her name. She only kept her Identification inside her bag.

He had looked through her bag.

Ahaha, poor, poor Ceana. I bet she’s gonna faint again.

Anyway, tell me if you liked it or not, critique is wubed! ^.^
