I know a lot of people who get angry at private servers, saying “screw private servers!”
Well, You know what I’ll say to you people?
Screw you and your ball-sucking Nexon Corporation, the pricks who ruined my favorite online game.
When I started GMS in beta, MapleStory had a certain feel to it. People were nice. There was no rush to grind and level. No preassure to purchase overpriced pixels from an online shop. Playing the game was actually FUN, like a game should be. I had a ton of friends who I got along great with. It was amazing.
And then came along Nexon, with their “because we can, and it’s free.”
Let me do some more translating. “Because we can BS, and we get paid to do it.“
After playing SMS, the private MapleStory server, I’ll never be able to look at Nexon’s MapleStory the same way again. I can never, ever go back to it.
The members of SMS are just like what MapleStory used to be. Everyone had bonds. Everyone (mostly) was cheerful. Noobs were scarce. NX was free, like it should be.
Well, today, Nexon sent those who run SMS a cease and desist letter. For “making profit off the game”. Not surprising, Nexon is all about profit.
But I’ll really miss SMS. I’d never have gotten to level 118 in GMS, even if I spent my entire life. I’m just a slow leveler like that. It was the best two weeks of my summer.

Private servers are illegal, yes. They are wrong, they are stealing, they are able to be sued. Yes.
But they are a game. They are not a grind-fest.
When I played SMS, I never felt pressured to level. Never felt bored by it.
When I played SMS, I never was kill stolen. Never had to deal with any ‘noobs.’
When I played SMS, I had everything I wanted. If I needed anything, I could get it.
When I played SMS, I had fun. I did things how I wanted.
And now Nexon’s saying I can’t.

C’mon . If I like grinding to level 100 in an hour and you prefer to take a month , go ahead . What do we have to do with you ? It’s not as though the private server people can go into the game of yours . And the thing about CS is that . It’s like a hack . x2 exp = getting more exp than others . If you didn’t use the cash item , that itself would be a hack . There’s still the meso magnet and item pouch . Isn’t that looting ? A supposed to be hack ? Monster magnet , attracts monsters , vack hack if I’m not wrong ? Really , the thing about maple is that , you have to be at a moderate level . Yes , you can and could if you want , make as many friends at level 40 as a level 80 . But , the skills and stuff . Many people will choose level over friends . Trust me I know . I have this friend who’s a biatch on maple , but really nice in RL . Maple changes people . They want to be the good , better and best . They make use of people , use their trust and break it . Greed for leveling , fame and stuff . In private servers , hardly anyone does that . Why ? Because , they can achieve it w/o much help . I know people who have lost friends in RL due to online games . It sucks badly , but hey , that’s life .
I don’t want to sound so harsh on you , but this comment is for all who think that private servers suck just because we level up faster than you . I am really getting sick of you people just posting your thoughts everywhere and any way you want . I mean sure , you dislike private servers , fine , go ahead and let us know . But no , you’re not allowed to condeem people just because they do that . It’s like what someone ( forgot who >< ) said , private servers are like downloading free songs off the net when others pay for it . I doubt you have never ever done that . Supposedly , even getting your friends to send you songs or ripping the songs from discs they bought is wrong .”
Within Global, there is absolutely no point to play (At least from my view). Go ahead, say that you’re “legit,” but that doesn’t mean anything. A game that is made to maximize profit, as is the view of all corporations, sacrifices its soul to do so. Because those without money feel out in the dirt, abandoned for those who can pay. Parity disappears. And when that happens, the whole game goes to shambles, because the richest look the best and are the best and no amount of skill or luck will change that.”

Playing on a private server with free NX cash and enhanced rates is my way of coping with this knowledge. I’m satisfied knowing that I don’t have to spend my hard-earned money on luxuries with a time-limit. I’m satisfied that I can now play my favorite game and attain reachable goals which won’t suck up all of my free time. And I’m happy to know that no one is profiting from it. If you have a problem with that, then piss off.

Well, at least I got to level 101. It would have taken me years to reach even 70. >_> I wasted 22mil on smegas lulz.
I spent 40 mil on Smegas today D: not like there was anything else I could do with it all.
It took me 3+ years to get all the characters on my page to the level they are at. It was amazing being level 118. I’ll miss it.

If Nexon was competent or worked harder to make a more enjoyable product for its customers (and no, their pathetic updates are not enjoyable, I’m talking about erasing the boredom factor) then private servers would be obsolete.
Maybe if Nexon increased the exp, drop and mesar rates.

And be chained to a certain time slot for four hours.
Buying 2x EXP and the like is like a reverse part-time job. You have the hours, you have to work them, but you pay them to let you do it.

And as for it not being fun, SMS was hella fun. The most fun I’d had in MS since before all of my friends in GMS quit.
SMS was probably the most enjoyable online 2D MMORPG I have ever played. Ever. Because I usually play 3D anyways.
But yeah. Go SMS. Using creative tactics to draw in the consumers. Three cheers for private servers.

A friend of mine got his 13x acc banned with over a few hundred mil inside .
Apparently someone got a screenie of him mega-ing for OdinMS , the private server .

I think it’d only be fair to run private servers if they paid a sorta royalty to Nexon.
A) Nexon believes that all these private servers are copyright infringements, and therefore should be shut down.
B) Nexon has a good undercover reason for stopping these sites (That no one else knows)
C) Nexon is a greedy cooperation trying to rake every penny into their pockets ._.”
I think it’s a combination of A and C. Nexon is too lazy to actually investigate things themselves, they probably have a department specifically for locating anything that could harm their buisness. Something professional sounding, like “Buisness Protection Enforcement”.
And I don’t disagree with that. But the fact is, Nexon will still be loosing money even with the royalty, so they would never agree.
A private server of Maplestory for example, is a Maplestory game which is not created from the original creators themselves.
The creators of the private server can edit the game the way they want it and allow people to join.
Most private servers more offer what players demand (Higher exp/drop rates)
It was fun while it lasted. Besides, don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.

This money is NOT used for anything but the game itself and improving the server. Nexon just can’t deal with the fact that private servers care about their players.

I made a MMOTales guild a while ago already. I accidentally somehow spent 95M on it. 50M on guild, rest went on remaking the guild emblem 3 times.
Alas, it does suck. soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much.
I’m content though with the fun times I had and don’t wish to scream at nexon too much, since there would be no SMS without the source code. ^^;;

I never noticed any bribery going on in SMS. SMS was originally intended as a private server for the MapleTip community, so all of the GM’s were MT moderators selected by Stephen. I don’t think there were ever any offers for GM positions in the time that I played. And the NX was free and kind of easy to obtain. People only donated if they wanted to support the server, not to brag about it in the game . . .
Vendetta~ I don’t know how many times I’ve had to repeat this: Nexon didn’t develop MapleStory. Wizet did. Nexon BOUGHT Wizet and the rights to the game, turning it into one big pixelated shopping mall. So don’t thank Nexon, thank Wizet.

I played this game called “Survival Project” before.
When they shut down, that’s what the website said.
However, if GMS shut down
It would be a lie if they decided to say that.

Private servers FTW. SCREW nexon. I quit and i didnt even have to go on a maple private server to realize that, (i wanted to but i thought i had to download a whole new Maple Story client.)
Its just a matter of time before Nexon cranks up the cash shop prices to that of MapleSEA: 2x the price of everything, and the 90-day max reduced to 30 days and everything else 10 days.
Probably to pay for nexon employees’ gas for their hummers
