Some people have been offended by this and I’d like to say that if you don’t think its ‘ruined’ or doesn’t make your name worse in anyway then its fine. You don’t always have to go by what others think. There ARE exceptions to these opinions =)
This is what me and several other players have put together as “The Top 10 Ways to Ruin Your Name” while we were chattin on the forums at basilmarket, rating IGNS and Basil account names

TOP 10 WAYS TO RUIN YOUR NAME
1.Numbers- Adding numbers to your name because it was taken (eg. adding years or just random numbers), or speaking in l33t and replacing the letters with numbers. ( ITS FINE IF THAT NUMBER IS SOMETHING THAT MEANS SOME THING TO YOU, I’m talking about when people go like this : AW I WANTED THAT NAME NARUTO,well atleast i can still get it if I just add a 2902537 to it, that way no one will have it!
2.Job- Putting the name of your job inside or between your name, Or even saying things that aren’t true eg. lv.120HERMIT while you’re still level 15.
3.Common Cartoon/Anime names- Having any reference or imitating an anime,cartoon and/or already trademarked fictional character
4.Unreadable name-A name that you can’t say if you read it aloud/ or has no meaning whatsoever
5.Common beginnings- Having “azn” or some abbreviated ethnicity in your name, its great to be proud but having everyone write aznboi/azngurl makes it ununique, you want to stand out!
6.Repeating- Repeating letters a lot so that no one can chatinvite you or trade request you if they need to talk to you. For example, putting a mix of v’s w’s L’s and I’s make things harder
7.Caps- WhEn PeOpLe TyPe or make their names like that with a mix of lowercase and uppercase letters it usually ruins it
8. Mistakes- Double check your characters name before you click ok, because it looks silly when you mispell your own name. Eg. Instead of spelling warrior you write worriar.
9. Self Centered- Saying you’re the ‘best’ or ‘elite/leet’ doesn’t impress anyone.
10. Insulting- Don’t make things that insult others, besides the character is about you and not that other somebody.
Note: =P I’m not exactly a good writer or anything, no harsh criticism please =P. This was just for fun don’t say that “YOU DONT MAKE THE RULES” or anyting. Sorry if there are many mistakes .-.

sorry. i’m just GONNA have to be a little harsh in this one. i know, that in a way, it is annoying to see such names all the time. they make you question the person’s ability to think. “did that guy even TRY to make a cool name?” and things like that. but what i hate most, is when poeple rant opinions like these as if to say that they are better or more creative. so allow me to add a few more things that i think are just retarted to have as names.
11. any word out of the dictionary
12. any word translated into another language (ex: japanese, Latin, german, spanish)
13. Your real life name translated into chinese or japanese.
i’m pretty sure 99% of anyone who’s ever complained of crappy names has the last 3 i’ve added. wow. your SOOO creative.
the only type of names left would be either real life boring names or stupid words like “twinkle” or adj+noun combos like “bubblyface” O_o

But is okay cause i am acually jap so its hard not to use jap words and i can’t translate my name to jap cause its already a jap name XD. As for my other cleric (Miyon) i dunno its probably an acual name or something but i just thought of it off the top of my head.

but i like to consider myself except for 2 reasons.
1. i totally invented making names based on dictionary words (i invented in 1998)
2. i’ve had this name for 8 years. the longer you have a name, the more it can be respected as a name.
:p funny story. i made up this name cause my friend was in this clique. and they all had cool nicknames like “joker” O_o (kinda like ganster aliases) but me being the nerd that i am, though it’d be cool to check up the dictionary for a badass word with MEANING. and there you go. lol whats funnier is that my friend thought it was so funny, he used it all the time and then forgot my real name. O_o

It may be a name from a movie but you don’t see alot of people that have this name. =)
Also some of these points don’t apply to everyone.
Some people like to have names like that and don’t care, it’s really all about opinion.
well UncleRafiki is pretty unique only cause not eveyone has that name. to the fictional name thing we mean names like 0o0NaRuto0o0 or Sasuk3slnx. Not only Naruto but other shows as well but the most names like that, that ive seen is from naruto.

Well, my character name isn’t in any of those except for the Capitals. The capitals are justified in my name though, KatanaSLICE.

Wow, I guess I “ruined” my name too, -.- I happen to like the number, 22. I agree with some of the numbers, but I completely disagree with number one. Sometimes people really like a certain name but it’s taken so they add their favourite number. It doesn’t mean that the name is “ruined”. Maybe the number in their name is the number on their favourite athlete’s jersey. Maybe the numbers represent a memorable year. I really do not understand how putting numbers in your name “ruins” it. A lot of people have ruined names then, according to your list, because I have seen a lot of people with numbers,anime names,jobs, etc. The word ruin means to completely destroy something. I do not believe that by simply putting a number or 2 into a name completely destroys it. Using the word “ruin” is a bit harsh, don’t you think?

Interesting blog, though the list-compilers seem to have aggravated a few people.
My main character’s IGN is “GenesisFate.” And I know one of the premier writers on this site has the penname GenesisF, and he has a character in Broa of the same name.
Just to say, my Gen has been around since before the time of Broa (which, is the server his Gen is on). >->; Meh, I feel unoriginal with my name now. ._.

Well, good blog overall, but I could dispute #6. For the sake of PQ’s, or hiding from potential stalkers, it’s actually a good idea to make yourself untrackable with a few “L”s replaced with capital “I”s etc. (Though I never thought to do this with any of my characters, because I never thought to when I went about naming them.)
