DDR’s Sexier Little Halfsister

Since I’ve been too lazy to level my hermit, I’ve been going back to some of my older games. This here is a perfect example. Check out the game in the first screen. It’s called Flash Flash Revolution (FFR), a computer version of DDR. Now, I’m sure you’ve heard of things like StepMania and other imitations, but FFR is completely different. First, FFR is completely browser based. For those of you who are less familiar with computer lingo, that means it’s like Runescape and loads in your browser. That means you can play anywhere: home, school, the library, etc. It even has a ton of mirrors so you can get past any type of blocking system your current location (probably school) may have set up. Also, it’s got multiplayer. Yep, multiplayer, my excuse for posting this on a MMO site.

Anyways, check out the 2nd screen. That’s about average for the amount of arrows I have coming at me at any given time. This game has an arrow count way above anything DDR or its other computer-based imitations put out. And rightly so, you’ve got ten fingers meaning the four you’re using never have to move while you’ve only got two feet that have to go a foot just to do one different arrow. That’s the real thing I like about FFR. It’s a real challenge when using fingers, unlike StepMania or other imitations. StepMania attempts to copy DDR in everything. However, I’ve beaten the hardest song at the highest level at the fastest speed without any real challenge at all because of how low the arrow count is. Simply put, you can’t use DDR for a computer version. FFR doesn’t and makes it harder and that’s why I like it.

So, about me actually playing it. Right now, I’m at the “challenging” level of songs or about a level 9 (not out of 10) in terms of difficulty. It’s taken so much practice. Practice is really the only thing you can do. It’s the only way I’ve found to increase your speed of analysis and your fingers’ agility. The third screen shows one of my highest combos ever and I’m amazed I even got that high. Generally at around 150+ I worry so much about messing up that it causes me to mess up. I got it on one of my favorite songs, too, so that made me happy. Oh, did I mention? FFR has an incredible list of songs. They have to have over 500 songs to choose from and most of them are very catchy. They even have a lot of video game inspired ones like songs from Mario, Zelda, and Tetris.

Finally, check out this video. It’s absolutely insane (FFR related): link

Oh, and if you want to check it out, here’s a link: link

  1. FFR gave me trojans when I went on their site. That’s a big no-no in my book.

And I know your link redirects it so that you get points for dragging people over to their site.
    Another big no-no.

    FFR gave you trojans O.o
Are you sure? I’ve been going to it for years and never once gotten anything off of it. I don’t see why they’d need to, they make enough money as is (1.25mil players). As for the link, I figured it’s standard to link to the game you’re talking about it, we usually do. (check the Granado Espada thread) I was originally going to post it through a siggyish thing that displays my stats, but I realized you can’t directly insert pictures into blogs. As a result, I simply grabbed the link out of the siggy. What’s so bad about that?

  3. Nothing. Never said there was anything wrong. Just personal quirky no-nos.
And let me rephrase that, I was a big addict to the site, until they started resonance, and I immediately got a trojan from that. Weither it was uploaded by a user or not, the fact that it got to my computer at all is appaling. It’s been that way on every computer I’ve ever tried.

  4. Weird. I’ve tried out Resonance and never gotten anything (I have several anti trojan programs as a result of an AIM mishap).

Multiplayer, much better stepfilers (IMO), browser based (accessible anywhere), and support from many bands make it better for me.

    Stepmania Online
That’s an opinion thing (i tried it out just to make you happy the other day, though and they weren’t bad)
Flash Drive (accessible anywhere and without internet)
STepmania has tons of mainstream songs
i can also make my own songs and steps
or make my own steps to songs
    grading system is more in-depth

but hey it’s a matter of opinion

    FFR isn’t bad

In regards to the mainstream songs, FFR is actually in contact with bands and stuff. They’ve got embedable players for music from each band. However, I totally get the matter of opinion thing. It’s all about what you value the most.
