Part 3 – A War awaits
It was wierd, yesterday, Autumn told me of some strange things.
Something about angels, where she came from…and a contract.
She…was an angel, and she fell from the sky, in a city named
Orbis, inhabited with fairies and angels. She came down here to
acomplish something…or more like, finishing part of a bargain.
That’s all I heard before I fainted with exhaustion. How could
I believe her? I thought about it for a while until my head exploded
with confusion. She wouldn’t lie about this…It has to be true…but
It’s just too unrealistic. I thought this only happened in fantasy tales
in books, but apparently, it’s all real. All this time…there were angels
in this world…and a diffrent race of beings, hidden in the clouds way up high.
“Hey, whatch’a doing in there? It’s saturday!” The voice came from
Reina from the other side of the door. I could recognize her familar,
annoying voice. I made up an excuse.
“Yeah, I’ll be right there, I was just counting my cards to make sure you
didn’t steal any from me.”
“Why would I do that? With all the germs you put it in it, I would
have to wash my hands everytime I touched it!” she remarked
“Whatever”
I didn’t feel like talking. Too many thoughts were floating in my brain.
It even made me head hurt sometimes. Then a familar thought
crossed my brain. Did Autumn kiss me yesterday? That was my first kiss!
I blushed from the thought of it, and the scene replayed back and forth
uncontrobally as I was eating my breakfast. Every time it did that, I would
feel more and more awkward, and I ended up letting my cheeks turn red.
Reina’s eye caught my blush and she made a smirk.
“Why are you blushing Alyta?” she said, emphasizing the word “blushing”
“No particular reason.” I lied
My mom joined the conversation too.
“I’m sure it’s nothing.”
I could tell by mom’s voice she doubted me, and of course so did Reina
when they shared a strange look. “Well, I’m going to Momo’s house, bye!”
Before they could reply, I ran for the door, and slammed it shut, blocking
the sound. I had to find Autumn again, I’m sure she still has more to say to me.
Besides, momo will be out of town for today, for reasons unknown. He never tells
me where he’s going and what’s he up to, we’ve been friends for so long…It was
kind of strange. Shrugging off the thought, I headed towards the direction of
Autumn’s house.
I took out a piece of ripped parchment paper from my poecket. Crude, rushed
writing formed as I unwrinkled it. The address read “1202, Oak Street” It was
only a 10 minute walk from here. On the way I saw a few of my classmates outside,
about to leave, telling me where they were going, unlike Momo! One day, I’m going
to make him spill it out, I mean what’s the secret anyway? I got a little sidetracked
on the way when I suddenly felt like eating some ramen, I only ate a few morsels
of rice back at home, so I made a quick stop to the ramen shop.
Stuffed with delicious ramen, I finally arrived. It was a brand new house, with
light yellow paint on the walls, the paint wasn’t even completely dried up yet!
There were a few flowers planted near a small porch polished with hard wood
and a thick set of white paint along with it. Before I could walk another step, the
door swung open, and a hand reached out, grabbing me by the shoulder, and dragged
me inside! “You must be her partner right?” He was a young man, about 20
something years. “Y-yeah…” I stuttered.
He nodded and locked the door. “Autumn’s still sleeping, she always sleeps in.”
“Ha, just like my mom!” He laughed and led me into the family room, a wide open
area with a comfy looking couch in the middle and a wide screen tv. I couldn’t resist
running towards it and sitting down, but when I did, It felt hard, and my butt ached
in pain. He laughed even harder. “I’m working on that couch. It only looks that way,
but If you sit on it, It might break your bones!” Whining, I slowly got up, and clenched my
teeth, thinking that would help me endure the pain.
“Well…not to be impolite, I started. But who are you? You look too young to be
Autumn’s father.” “Haha, I’m not her father, I’m her guardian. Angels are appointed
to guardians to look after them until they reached the age of 18. where they can take
care of themselves from then on.”
“So do you mind explaining anything else? Like the contract…I felt lots of power
at the time…and what misson do you have to…before I could finish, he interrupted
me, but with a serious tone.
“You might as well get used to sitting on that couch, because I’m not going
to let you off it until I’m done explaining lots of crap.”
“You don’t have another chair?”
The man let off his serious voice for a moment. “I do, but I
want you to sit there.” he smiled.
Not wanting to argue with him, I reluctantly sat on the couch, and listened.
“When you contract with someone, that person gets extraordinary power.
The power isn’t coming from the air, It’s coming from inside of them.
You awaken your full potential, and your strength and mind increase dramaticially,
but of course, It comes with a price. The contractor, being autumn in this case…
he pauses for a second and takes a deep breath. “Her life becomes shortened.”
Startled, I was about to say something, but he stopped me and told me to hear
him out before you go asking questions, so I obeyed. “Her life force was drained
to increase your strength. Depending on how much she poured into you, I’m
not sure how long she can live up to.”
“Contracts comes with this terrible price. I’m not saying this is your fault, so
don’t worry, you had to, or she might of died if she didn’t.”
“Aren’t you her guardian?! Couldn’t you of saved her?!! I yelled.
“Yeah…but I had…an errand. More importantly, you’re in danger. That man
you fought before, and a bunch of others, will be out looking for you and
Autumn. There’s also another drawback to the contract. The contract is meant
to be permenant, and you’ll be bonded together for life. No one can kill
Autumn unless if they kill you first.”
I froze, driven with fear. There was complete silence in the room, and it
felt discomforting. I no longer felt the wooden hardness of the chair, the
tenseness in the air was more than enough to get me into pain. After
a couple of minutes, I calmed down slightly, and managed to speak.
“So…I’ll be hunted down?” I asked with a weak voice
“Yeah…I’m sorry you got into this mess, but soon enough, everyone
will be involved with this.” he replied
“What do you mean by that?”
“Well…what I mean by that is…but he got interrupted by Autumn, who
suddenly came crashing down the stairs. “Your parents and a couple of
other people know the truth.”
“So Reina knows too!?” I exclaimed
She nodded her head in dissagreement. “No, she doesn’t know yet.”
“Your parents agreed…Kira and I are going to train you, to
protect yourself.”
Kira and Autumn left me alone in the family room for a while. Just 3 days ago,
I was living an ordinary life, but now, it’s all changed. My legs shuffled back and
forth on the couch, ignoring the pain. My thoughts raced, and I was getting
dizzy. People are going to be after me…I’m still not sure why. I wish Momo knew
about this…or maybe he does? There was something serious going on, and by
the way they were talking, this was going to affect a lot of people.
I remained in the same place for about an hour when I was finally done thinking.
I went to the backyard, and found the two outside, sitting on lawn chairs.
They were probaly waiting for me the whole time. “Catch!” Kira yelled.
He threw a sword at me! Luckily, I had the reflexes to grip the handle,
and avoid the sharp, pointy edge. “Are you trying to kill me!? ” I screamed.
“There’s something coming our way” Kira simply answered and pointed
his index finger to his left. I glanced at where he was looking and I saw
a flying crimson balrog. We were in his flight of direction!
He swooped down with amazing speed, but when I pointed my blade at
it, it turned in an immediete halt, and rised up high to sky, observing us
from a distance. “Not him again…” I groaned. I could tell this was a
diffrent one though because this one looked more muscular, and had
no scar on it’s chest. He was smarter too, unlike the other one who attacked us
in blind rage. “Look the other way, he’ll attack when he thinks you’re off guard.”
I did as he commanded and looked the other way. The monster didn’t buy it,
but soon enough, he came crashing down once again, raising his sharp claws.
Before I could react, Kira stood in front of me and guarded the attack with
a sword of his own. He was strong, but eventually, the balrog’s claws will
strike down the sword and finish him. On impulse, I threw myself at him,
and buried my sword deep in the organs. He roared madly and he shaked us off,
and we stumbled upon the ground. The sword remained, stuck to his body, there was
lots of blood smeared on the sword. “Damn, I took me hours to wash that sword!!”
Kira grumbled with anger. We watched as it was growling with pain.
He managed to take the sword out of him, but we were sure it was in
intense pain. He clapped his hands together. In a matter of seconds, a dark,
monsterous aura appeared in the palm of his hands. “Crap! If he hits us
with that, we’re dead!” Kira and I quickly got up and dashed at him.
Autumn made it to him first before we did. The balrog was wide open, with
no defense as he was charging his spell. She lashed out a fruit knife from the
insides of her jacket, and stabbed the monster straight in the heart! It was
Blood overflowed everywhere, staining the wet grass.
I didn’t want to look and shifted my head. I couldn’t understand how Autumn
could handle the violence. Just like last time, the balrog let out it’s last shouts
and screams, then fell to it’s grave. We could hear the sounds of people rushing
by over here. Everyone saw the balrog and heard the noise. “What a bloody mess.”
Kira remarked unhappily. “We’re going to have to think of something…fast.” Autumn
thought. Shrugging off the fear of blood, I dared to take a quick peek at the balrog.
I noticed there was a letter on it’s side. Thankfully, Kira picked up the blood infested
letter, and opened it up. He examined it quickly.
He wiped off some of the blood with his own hand, and passed me the letter.
“Read it, it’ll explain a few things.” I read the letter.
If you’re reading this, you must of killed the balrog, if not, you must
be dead. If it was the first choice, then congrats, you’ve destroyed another
of my pets. I won’t tell you who I am, but I’ll tell you one thing. The war has begun.
“What war!?” I asked Autumn worridely, but the two were already on their way to
greet the confused and scared people waiting outside the door.
