Autumn Wings – 1

Before we start: This fan fic will be based on Maple Story of course…(duh o.o),
but I’m not an expert and I don’t know what enemies are called, or what the name
of each part of a place is called (ex: blue mushroom forest…etc), so I’ll make some
of them up. Okay, I’m done. Enjoy. ^^

Part 1 – The girl with wings

I stood there silently, scanning the area. I was surrounded by rows of trees.
I tightened my grip, holding the sword steady in front of me. Then I heard
a rustling sound in the bushes, target locked! I dashed at a bush with extreme
speed and swung my blade, slicing the bush in half. Almost immedietly right after
that, I could hear a faint noise behind me. I shifted my back, but I saw no one.
Without thinking, I turned my back the other way again and guarded against
the attack, my sword linking with my attacker’s sword.

Pushing hard on the blade, I managed to strike the sword out of the attacker’s hand,
and I leaped foward for the finishing blow. “Watoosh!” The sound echoed as I slammed
my wooden sword right on my friend’s shoulder. That’s right, I was fighting my friend,
It wasn’t a real fight. He panted, and placed his right hand on his injured shoulder.
“Owwwww! You don’t have to hit that hard Alyta!” he whined, as he blowed on his
small bruise, momentarily easing the pain. Instead of asking him how he was, I acted
like a good friend, and laughed at him, not at all worried. Of course, he shot
me an angry look, but I knew he wasn’t really mad at me.

My name’s Alyta, and my friend’s name was Maurice. He hated that name, so
everyone calls him by his nickname, Momo. Almost everyday, we trained at
the outskirts of Zipangu in some ruins. Everytime though, I would beat him,
so he’s used to it, but I’m sure it still hurts. It doesn’t mean he sucked, Momo
and I were some of the best swordsmans in training for our age. We were both
only 13 years old! Momo finally stopped whining, and sighed. “Man, I can
never beat you Alyta!” I smiled. “Don’t sweat about it, I’ll always be better than you”

“Yeah you’re right…HEY! One day I’ll beat you, and you won’t be laughing then!”
“Who’s laughing?” I remarked and laughed. He got mad again for a while, but he
soon stopped and laughed with me. We were best friends since we were 5 years old!
Everytime after training, we would go get some dangos and hang out at the ruins,
blabbering about anything we could think of, and that’s what we did today as well.
After taking one bite into my dango, we started talking the rest of the day until
our mouths were tired, and refused to open up anymore. Not only did our bodies
undergo excercise, even our mouths did!

It was already getting dark, so we decided to head home. “See ya tommorow at
school, Momo!” I shouted. He replied me back with a shout as well. “Yeah, later!”
I was just in time for dinner when I got home. Which as usual, I was greeted
by my mom, Mira, and my sister, Reina. “Hey Alyta, help Reina set
up the table would you?” “Sure.” I answered back and grabbed three plates from
a nearby cabinet, and pairs of chopsticks. Tonight was my favorite dish, Curry
Chicken Rice! “Yay!” I said as my eyes glowed with delight. “Itakatamatsu!”
Here in Zipangu, we would always say that before we started to eat.

I grabbed my spoon and eagerly dug into the delicious rice. Pausing only
to say “Delicious!” I grabbed a chicken with my chopsticks, and plucked it
down my throat. Reina then started opening up her big mouth.
“You always hang out with Momo, are you two dating?” and she laughed
after that comment. “Haha, that was so funny I forgot to laugh.” I replied,
and finished gulping down another piece of chicken.

After a couple minutes of silence, my mom started to talk as well. “So, how’s
your sword skills going, improving much?” “Yup! Someday, I’m going to be
better than dad.” Thinking about dad, I sure wish he was back again. My
dad, Goltana, is one of the best swordsman in the entire town of Zipangu,
possibly this whole entire continent! Right now, he was on a mission with
the help of a few white knights and crusaders. “One more bowl please!”
I said, anxious for more curry rice. “But…this is your sixth bowl, you’re
still hungry?!” “Um well…yeah!” I said as I shaked my empty bowl up and down.
My mom took my bowl and filled it up with more curry rice. “You better help me
with the dishes Alyta.” then sighed.

When dinner was over, I crawled on top of my bed, exhausted. My belly
started aching too…ugh…stomach ache…ate too much food. I rubbed it
for a while, and starting moaning. Reina barged in my room.
“That’s what you get for eating so much, you stupid pig!” “You’re the pig,
whenever we eat seafood, you start munching it like you hadn’t eaten
for days…I’m suprised you still manage to stay skinny!” Reina made a funny
face. “It’s only when I eat seafood…” “Yeah…that’s like when…every other
day?” “Oh shut up!”

I took out a deck of cards, and played with Reina the rest of the night.
I would always win, and she would get pissed and force me to keep playing
until she won. I could of let her win, I tried that, but It won’t work. She’ll
get even more mad and tell me to try my best. She never won, and she didn’t
today, and we ended up falling asleep at midnight.

“Ring! Ring! Ring!!!” “Oh shut up!” Reina and I said in unison and I sleepily got
up to turn off the alarm clock. She was so sleepy, she slept in my room! Reina
got up as well and yawned. “What time is it Alyta?” I checked the clock. “Oh It’s
only 8:30 am, school starts at 8:45 am so…OH CRAP! Reina rushed back
to her own room and changed as fast as she could, fixing up her hair too.
All I did was change my clothes, and rinsed my teeth, no time to brush them.
We could never count on our mom to wake us up, she always slept in!

I was out the door in 2 minutes. “Hurry up Reina!” I yelled. “Coming!” Soon
after that, she got out, and we ran to school. It was a 30 minute walk, we
would be late. We finally reached the gate, we stopped for a breather and
went inside the class only to be yelled at by Mr. Lam, our homeroom teacher.
“We know, we know…clean the class after school.” I answered, and quickly
got to my seat. Just another day of school.

When It was over, I headed over to the closet and took two brooms. I handed
one over to Reina, and started sweeping. Momo stayed and watched us.
“So…are you going to be a nice friend and help us?” I asked sincerly. “I may
be your best friend Alyta, but I’m not that nice.” I whined, but begging him
won’t do anything, even if I got down to my knees, so, might as well clean.
Once done, we all left and went over to the ramen store, and ordered some
kinoko ramen. We slurped on our noodles, and talked for a bit.

The ramen shop was one of our favorite places, besides the ruins. We
did all of our homework after school most of the times. After about 3 hours,
we were finally relieved of our homework. “Mr. Lam’s too strict.” I said as
I walked back home. “Tell me about it.” Momo asks me. “Well first he —
AHH STOP! I’m going home first. You two are going to talk forever.” Reina
interrupted. Then she really did take off, leaving us way behind her.

After a long talk, we decided to go to the ruins to just hang out for a while,
not to train. The homework made us dead tired, and sapped away most of
our strength. It was a little bit wierd. We would always have something
to talk about, I guess that’s why It was really fun to be with Momo. We lied
down on the soft grass by the ruins, and looked up at the sky, just closing
our eyes, not wanting to talk right now, which was pretty strange.

A few minutes passed, and I was now confused. “Dude Momo, is something
wrong, we haven’t talked for like 5 minutes…that’s wierd.” He laughed.
“We talk way too much, I’m just tired now.”

Help me! Come inside the ruins…now!

“Did you hear that momo!” “Hear what?”

Please…hurry!

“I swear I heard something!” Momo looked at me like I was an idiot.
“Whoever it is, the voice is telling me to go inside the ruins…I think
someone’s in trouble!” He knew when I was serious. It didn’t really
make sense how only I heard it, but he believed me, and we went inside
the ruins. We came inside here occassionaly, but never found anything
interesting…only broken pillars, rocks, or a few plants growing in the corners.

We looked around, but to no avail. “Maybe it was just in your head.” “Maybe…”
I replied back with uncertainty. We suddenly stopped talking, stopped moving,
frozen with fear. Just ahead of us was a crimson balrog. It was a large brown
beast, with huge black wings, and a skeleton mask on it’s face. It’s the first
one we’ve seen in our lives. There was someone near it too. A girl with light
red hair, around our age. Is she the one who called me? But how…? I ignored the
question for now and focused on the current situation.

She was in danger. We had to go save her, but we were no match for the balrog!
We also couldn’t leave her alone to get help, what if something happened?! Then
an instant chill of fear spread through our bodies. The demon turned around, and
was gazing at us. Without a second thought, it lunged toward us! We barely managed
to avoid it’s dive. Taking out our swords, we circled around the beast with amazing
speed. It kept looking at us, trying to track us down. We were sure it would get
dizzy. Taking action, we stopped running, and slashed at it in both directions.

It failed, and caught our blades with his hands. Carrying the two wooden swords with
immense strength, he carried us with it, leaving us in mid air, and then bringing us down
to the ground! I twisted my sword out of it’s grip and managed to land back on ground
safely…but Momo wasn’t able to, and the huge impact crushed him. “Momo!!!” I screamed.
I was worried about him and caught off guard. The balrog grabbed me and punched me
hard in the stomach. Growling with pain, I dropped down to the floor, defenseless.

I could see it smiling, as it lifted it’s left arm, to finish me off. I was scared. Was this
how my life ends…to be killed by a balrog?! I closed my eyes, not knowing what will
happen. “No!” a voice called. It was the girl’s voice. A bright aura was wrapped around
her, and something amazing happened. Wings…white wings, I saw wings behind
her back. With a wave of her hand, she released a wave of light. To my astonishment,
the light shredded the balrog in half. Blood gushed out of it, and soon, it died.

Not wanting to see the blood, I looked away, staring at the girl. I kept my eyes on her.
I had so many questions to ask her. First of all, what happened…was she the voice in my
head, and who was she…? Was she…an angel?

Part 1 End ~

*Takes a deep breath* Man this took me like two hours to write this…I’m really tired now,
