A Special Message :: Hacking

Cheating in online computer games is a broad category of activities, all of which are generally regarded as modifying the game experience in a way that gives a player an unfair advantage over the other players. Depending on the game, different activities constitute cheating, as it is often a matter of consensus opinion.

Cheating exists in all multiplayer online computer games. While there have always been cheat codes and other ways to make single player games easier, most developers attempt to prevent it in multiplayer games. With the release of the first popular Internet multiplayer games cheating took on new dimensions. Previously it was rather easy to see if the other players cheated, as most games were played on local networks or consoles. The Internet changed that by increasing the popularity of multiplayer games, giving the players anonymity, and giving people an avenue to communicate cheats.

Many users also complain about the lack of Game Masters (GMs; those that patrol the game in search of cheaters), and that the number of cheaters and scammers in MapleStory is consequently increased in frequency. Among these scams are “dropping games”, which unlike trading, has no filters, and may be manipulated even legally using the skill “Teleport” or speed-increasing items/skills, as well as by hacking. Hackers are those that use third-party programs or scripts to gain unfair advantages in the game, such as unrestricted mobility on a map (commonly referred to as “jump” or “speed hacking&quot. Hackers that are legitimately reported by a user for hacking are not immediately banned, as the Game Master investigating the report must catch the reported user in the act, to prevent accidental banning because of false reports. Furthermore, users are disappointed that the “Alert GM” feature, which allows users to report hackers, only allows one report per day.

TODAY, as I was training in Ant Tunnel I (Bera), I started lagging. Eventually, I disconnected. *sigh* Just another dumb disconnection of my stupid laggy computer. I logged back in; disconnected. Again; yes, disconnected. OH MY GOD, JUST QUIT FREAKING DISCONNECTING. Finally, I managed to connect to the server. As I jumped along, I noticed a strange occurence. Horny Mushrooms and Zombie Mushrooms were being sliced with damage by thin air. Grr…

I tilted my head towards the minimap on the screen. There was a player separated from all other ones training (and utterly frustrated). The red dot was displayed outside at the top of the map. Suddenly, the surrounding monster drops and mesos were flying together in the same direction. Stupid hacker…

I decided to change channels. It lagged than it normally did when switching through portals and changing channels, but otherwise everything was fine. Until I realized this channel, too, had another hacker, Meso Vaccuuming and Air Hacking (or whatever you call that hack where you hit one place to attack monsters faraway), though no Flying this time.

Hackers are shameless. They are people who do not how to level and play the game right. In fact, a time I was close to leveling, a hacker abruptly came into the map and started to his idiocy. Angered, I told him to ‘stop hacking and that hacking is bad’. Responding, he simply quoted that hackers nowadays are common and that no one including GMs really care.

Hackers are too ignorant to understand anything, and for everything, they always find a cheat or an illegal shortcut. They are what we call, in society, LOSERS.

Say NO to Hacking. No matter how tempting it may be to try, do not ever do it. Hacking disrupts other players game experciences and ruins them. Think of a time when you were training and close to leveling and a hacker just walked up and started hacking. Think of how mad you have been, trying to cooperate with them, telling them to stop, how hacking is not good.

Hackers have never cooperated, and will not stop continuing. They support what they are doing; they think it is right no matter what. Recently, a friend (that I thought was really my friend ), who was gaining levels rapidly. From level 25 to 37; from 38 to 52; from 53 to 69; from 70 to 72 – all in one month. I asked him if he was hacking, and he merely responded, “What the freak, I thought you were my friend. Friends never ask questions like those, you…you…you…” Yet, he lied to me right through with his tongue. Days later after the conversation, my other friend walked in on him using Lightning, appearing all over the map hitting monsters.

Promote the non-use of hacking. If someone you know decides to start hacking, persuade he/she nicely to not, and talk he/she through it. If they’re a really close friend, they will understand.

  1. I noticed this is your first blog. Congrats on making it too the front page. It’s gotta be a blog about hackers.

    I can never do that.

  2. I don’t hack, but my friend does. Have you ever thought maybe, a person can get bored of the game and want to try a new character without the hampering of leveling? I mean, er, MS actually IS very slow in training compared to most other games, and if you already know how to play, he doesn’t want to be forced to grind again. Lol, that’s what he told me, he explained it much better than I just did and I eventually agreed with him. D: (He’s not one of those jackass hackers mind you, he CC’s right away if he’s not AFK and won’t take legit maps)

    It is a bot but it is punishable by a ban.

  6. Well, well, another “legit” pleading the causes and the consequences of hacking. . .

    It seems that you are merely angered at the fact that hackers, unfortunately, do level up faster than you.
    But you do have some good arguments. Alas, it is not enough.

    As you would know, the many hackers you see in the game are not. . . real hackers.

    They are lame people attempting to level up, showing off their hacks in public, begging for attention.

    That is not the true meaning of it. It never will be.

    Remember when the Sauna was corrupted? ._.;;
    I got a lead on who was behind it, that person, was a true one.
    No one knew who did it.

    A true hacker would never go around leveling up and showing off.

    Also. . .
    there is one more dark thing behind this all “hacking affair”
