A Critical Hope – Poem

First a bit of background on this.

So last weekend I finally got off my lazy butt (actually no, I was still on it) and decided to start working on a second installment of Skill Haiku (which I will get to someday, after finals). But once I started, something else captivated me.

You know the bowmaster skill Sharp Eyes? The party critical that turns night lords into star-throwing six-red-number deities? For those who don’t know, it used to be called Critical Hope when 4th job was in testing. I was sad when they changed the name. IMO, Critical Hope is just so much more poetic.

So when I started writing my Sharp Eyes haiku, I decided to expand from there.

A Critical Hope

Hope is the bowmaster’s blessing
A hope for a powerful hit.
Hope is the wretch’s lifeline
The rope leading out of the pit.
When nature is unbending and vicious
A true hero chooses to cope
For no matter how stacked the odds,
The critical factor is hope.

If you’re fighting an uphill battle
And chances of winning are slim,
You either yield and resign
Or you keep fighting tooth, nail, and limb.
It may seem like they have all the assets,
And there’s nothing to do but to mope,
But you’ve something the other team doesn’t–
A sliver of critical hope.

…it’s rather cheesy, I know.

I know for a fact that he can’t do that when it’s around 7pm at my side of the world.

And eh, Critical Hope does sound like a nicer name. ><
Oh but, whatever the name is, archers FINALLY have a party skill, zomg!
