Help with MMV

I’ve decided to make a maple movie.
Not a training one where im forced to show my damage and have noobs criticize my damage.

All I need to know is the following:
1. Where can i get good maps to upload onto bannedstory?
2. How can I add speech bubbles to the characters on bannedstory?
(someone explained this to me but i got confused XD)
3. I know the song Numb by Linkin’ Park has been used so many times and butchered as well, but if I use it well in my movie, could i have the potential to redeem it?

  1. Well, to make speech bubbles, uh, get a template from Ganzi! And, let him explain everything!

For backgrounds, I dunno. I never got one to work in BannedStory, so you might have to do a bit of Alt + Print Screen’ing to move some stuff around. Try PerionCorneror just use your own screenies.

All you need is the latest version of Bannedstory.

Press “Load picture” and upload an image you had copied.

Oh, so BannedStory 2.0 isn’t the latest anymore? When I tried to upload pictures into that, it could never find ’em. o.o

  4. I just used the “MapleSim full installer, BannedStory 2.1 (Windows only) – mirror #1” thing. Only took like two minutes

  5. Bah, here are some tips.

This is a LONG comment, and I suggest you read it all in one breath, or not at all. (Directed at the author of the blog though.

    1. If you don’t have patience, don’t do it. A good MMV requires at least a few days to weeks of good work, and it takes a LOT of time to compile ALL the screens + music sync.

    2. I strongly don’t suggest start movie making with a banned story video. Although it does expand the availabilities of outfits, it kills way too much time. Only when you completely mastered comic making, can you try to make a video with banned story.

    3. Right, Numb eh?
I used Numb, but that was a year ago. Unless you use it with perfect sync/timing, you’d be criticized harshly, (over-used song, bla bla bla). As long as the video is enjoyable however, just ignore the criticism.

Also there are lots of great songs. Stand Up, Bleed it Out, What I’ve Done, all LP songs that aren’t that over used YET. Try them out, or you can use the remix by Jay-Z, which is a great way to spice up the video.

    4. Another problem is, MMV’s with only text bubbles and actions are -BORING-. Hellaboring in fact, you need effects, glamor, nice models with great ~~~’s! (Maybe not the last part, but still). Try not to rely solely on Banned Story pictures, because it’s a slideshow if there isn’t any animation.

I doubt you learned Flash yet, but if you did, that’s a huge bonus.

    5. Do use something to record stuff in-game. Oh, and you absolutely NEED Photoshop for a Banned Story video, using Paint is a fiasco at the end. (Trust me, I know by experience.)

You see, basically what you can do with the tools Microsoft gives you.

    Paint.
    Banned Story.
    Windows Movie Maker.

Keep in mind that Window Movie Maker KILLS quality already, and when uploaded, the quality goes dead. So you HAVE to keep in mind that the images you make into the movie has to be in TOP NOTCH shape. That means no JPEG’s apart from Backgrounds, you HAVE to use Adobe to put together bit-maps then save as a JPEG together to create a single scene, other wise the quality is dead, and your movie will look dead.

(That was a bit jumbled, maybe I lost you somewhere, I just hope that you won’t get lost when I explain the explanations. . . stick with me.)

~> How to create a banned story scene.

Using a background, either created from tiles, or taken from Maple Story or a Sprite Site, put it in to a designated folder, or on the desktop. (Much easier on the desktop). Now ASSURE it’s a JPEG, (Banned Story only recognizes JPEG’s I think, no bitmaps, but PNG’s might work, though I doubt it), and in the background tool in Banned Story (Settings), type the ENTIRE location of the picture in question (in the little rectangular box).

Example: C:/Documents And Settings/[Username]/Desktop/image.jpg <- It should resemble this. Now tick the check sign.

Now once you have the background located, start by creating a character. Once your done customizing, remember to SAVE your character! Just Inventory, and save the code on a notepad file. Place the character on to the background. Now Alt+PrtSc or simply Print Screen.

Ctrl+V into a Paint file, crop it, and save it as a 24-bit BITMAP.

Import it into Adobe Photoshop, add text, effects, throw in some filters, and save as a maximum quality JPEG.

A scene should be done that way. If there’s multiple characters, that’s when it gets tricky.

If you want max quality you have to produce two exact scenes, but with different characters and their location. On one scene 1 person should be present, on the other, only the other person should be present. Over lap them, and voila, you got a double character scene without any hassle.

    OR.

Using the magic selection tool, select the whole character and place it onto the background. . . that requires time and skill. And could be quite frustrating at times. ;]

Now compile them one by one, painfully, into Windows Movie Maker, or if you’re Pro. . . try Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere Pro. . . of course you have to buy or *cough* you are a pirate yes?* them.

Bah, have fun, ask Ganzicus for other questions. If you have editing troubles, ask me. I’m okay with that stuff.

    *pirate as in, Internet. :]

  6. Holy crap, Dark.

    That was really useful!

But I dunno, I’d use another song, maybe like Face Down by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, or another good song that isn’t really listened to, just for the unique-ness. d: But that’s only me.

  7. Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever USE NUMB by LINKIN PARK. EVER!
    ’cause it’s overused beyond hope.
