Cake Count: 8

I’ve told myself before that I’d *never* write a blog, ever. My life is boring and there’s nothing that I’d care to share. But the liddle wolfie icon is just so cuute…. So, just one blog entry. No harm done, right? >.>

Apparently it’s not good enough that the 1st Anniversary event clashes with some of the busiest weeks of the semester. Oh no, not only do you have to find the time to get on, you have to work for the event goodies. Not play – you have to work for it. Don’t get me wrong, I do welcome this little break in levelling; but frankly, I’m starting to get Annoyed.

Soul Searching
So I started the 5th month of my Maple life by staring in disbelief at the latest update. Maple Weapons? Zakum? In my lifetime? Wow. Then I saw a screenie of an archer using a Maple Bow. That thing is the ultimate weapon of Cheese. Sparkly birthday messages = total embarassment. Forget the superiority of its stats compared with Vipers and V2k’s – if I had to use that thing for 15 levels, I’d die of embarassment before I manage to get to level 50.
Nevertheless, I convinced myself that I should get into the spirit of the event and hunt for one anyway. I had some uncharacteristically good luck too – after wallowing in a sea of mesos, iron hooves, and eq drops (no, not a single piece of archer eq >.<) for 6 – 8 hours on the 11th, I finally managed to find an above average one.
So far, so good…..or that’s what I thought…..

Food Fight
Having satisfied myself with a Soul Searcher, I decided the next goal would be getting a Maple bandana. Easier said than done. I decided that the Sleepywood maps with cakes on them were too big to cover quickly, and decided to move to Orbis. Only to find that Cloud Park is even worse. Ludi, on the other hand, was just right. Small maps, quick spawns, 1 hit KO monsters. Perfect.
But that’s when things started to turn sour. Presents are rare drops – about as rare as pig’s heads. Not only that, after turning in a present, you’re not guaranteed to get a bandana. And after getting my Soul Searcher, it looks like I’ve used up my monthly quota of luck as well. Of the countless hours of hunting and many, many candles, I’ve managed to get 8 presents – a good achievement by any standard, if they had gotten me something besides birthday cakes from that cruel maple npc.
It was then that I did a quick calculation: blue presents are currently selling for an average of 500k on basil market. 8 x 500k = 4 million mesos. If only I had foresight to sell all those presents instead. I could’ve gotten a bandana and still had money to spare. >.<
So, what now? Keep persevering? Buy my way out of cake hell with the measely pile of mesos I have on hand? Give up? – no, giving up is not an option that I’d consider. But if my bad luck holds, it looks like I’m going to be staring at an empty wallet again.

  1. Eh I know that feeling. 2 60% Staff Scrolls 750K a piece on Basil, both failed. >_< Or the 3 10% glove attack scrolls I got and used . . . and all of which failed, those go for ~450K. So that’s like 2.9 Mil or so down the drain total, and I’m sure there’s some other ones too that if I really wanted to dwell on, I could think of. Just keep on perservering, I’ve still managed to making money despite my feats of bad scrolling. (I should really just always sell my scrolls, the dam things. >_<)

  2. I feel your cake pain, i’m up to 13 of them now, though I did manage to also get the crappy white maple bandana that has no stats and doesn’t fit with my red armor at all. . . yay

  3. Gah, and i thought i was screwed with the one cake i got.
    T_T i’m crying for ya

  4. My cake-count was at 5 when I gave up. (2 bought)
Instead I got lucky and found a happy archer selling his RED maple bandana for 1mil.
I tried it on but didnt like it so I sold it on BasilMarket for 2.3mil. 😀

1.3mil profit but since I spent around 8-900k on the presents I bought I still only got 400k out from it.

I also spent around 20h at the Platoon chronos, 2 Esthers but no Lama Staff, I guess Ill buy one for the meso I earned through the esthers,

  5. I had the same situation. I finally got a Bandana on my 5th cake but I know how frustrated you must feel when you haven’t recieved one on your 8th try. Don’t give up, keep using the Presents until you get a Bandana. Your bad luck can’t last forever!

  6. That’s why,if I ever find a present,I’m not taking anymore chances with the NPC ever since the Happy Chinese New Year and Easter Event came out,so cruel,100 exp and 1k only from both of them,I felt as though my MS life was ripped and that they were cheating me,so from now on,sell those event items and let someone else play with the hands of fate.

  7. Pig heads are easy to get i found 27 while training a friend.
    I found no presentss
I give up getting a bandana.
    Beh hope u get one.

  8. I HUNTED 10 HOURS + ONLY TO NOT FIND A SINGLE PRESENT A CAKE BUT I HAVE 9 CANDLES -_-‘ sigh my luk is horrible, but i did find a white piettra (f) 3 wieght earings red shadow (f) and a knuckle vest in 2 hours >.< during x2 drop day at wild+fire boars =D

  9. Tough luck, man, at least you found a present. I got nothing.
