Jr Boogie – An Analysis

I was training today at Wild Cargo Area when I suddenly d/ced after 6%. Since it is troublesome to restart Maple Story due to the uber lag, I decided to start work on my blogging after a couple days of absence.

The Monster: An Introduction

Jr Boogie, in short, is nothing more than a pest. Sure, 150 exp for 1500 hp is an extremely good ratio (even when compared to Coolie Zombie, which has a ratio of 190 exp to 4500 hp). However, Jr Boogies do not appear in large spawns at all. Usually, you would just find a solitary Jr Boogie among large spawns of much weaker monsters. As such, it is not feasible to use Jr Boogie as a monster to train on.

Maps

The most important maps that you can find Jr Boogie in are the Evil Eye maps as well as Land of Wild Boar I. Important because practically everyone trains in these maps from lvl 30 – 40. However, at this levels, it is highly difficult to kill the occasional Jr Boogies that spawn. Not because they have high attack or defense. It’s because the darn things have relatively high avoid. Unless wielding a maple sword, warriors will not be able to hit them at all. Magicians, archers and thieves can hit them, but at a relatively low rate until the high 30s are reached.

Spells

Avoid actually isn’t the main problem when fighting Jr Boogies. Jr Boogies can, and will, inflict status problems. Seal will stop you from casting any skills. This is a big problem for magicians. Darkness will heavily reduce accuracy. This spell will not affect magicians, but everyone else will start missing a lot. Weakness is rather tame. You just can’t jump. Curse reduces experience gained by half, and it lasts rather long. This is obviously bad, and most people tend to sit it out rather than earn experience that’s heavily reduced. One good thing is that you can only have a maximum of 2 status ailments at the same time. The Jr Boogie will continue casting spells, but you won’t get further affected.
If you do find yourself suffering from a status ailment, use cure alls or holy water. However, these pots aren’t common, so you may need to buy them.

Solutions

Don’t attack the Jr Boogie at all. It obviously won’t attack you if you don’t provoke it. By dropping flat on the floor or jumping, you can avoid taking contact damage too. Of course, ranged classes may find it hard to avoid hitting the Jr Boogie. After all, some people find it hard to control where all their shots go (cough *sin* cough).
Otherwise, if you are a warrior, get a maple sword for the boosted accuracy. All other classes should keep their distance when attacking the Jr Boogie. Its spells do have limited range.
Lastly, you could choose to migrate to another Boogie-free map. Land of Wild Boar II has no Jr Boogie spawn. Unfortunately, all Evil Eye Cave maps appear to have Jr Boogie spawns.

Quests

If you do plan on fighting Jr Boogies, remember to first activate the quest by talking to the npc found in Evil Eye Cave IV. The rewards are relatively good.
Edit: On further thought, this may only apply to MapleSEA.
