Fixing the Patching Problem

A lot of people are having problems with the Patching. In my household we have two computers, one a laptop (Vista) and the other a desktop (XP). The Desktop patched beautifully with no problems at all, while the laptop hadn’t been working until I did a few things. By popular demand I’m writing a tutorial on how I got my Laptop to patch.

Before really trying to get it to work I followed the instructions from someone on the Maple Story forums about opening the Patcher through the My Computer browser. As it was a technical problem, this didn’t work at all and still gave me the error message with the weird characters or the Patcher would get stuck after completing the first step.

I kept trying to get the Patcher to patch and kept getting a popup from Windows Firewall about the pather being blocked. So I re-added the Patcher and the other Maplestory files to the Windows Firewall Exceptions List.

How do do this: (Note: These instructions are for Vista and should be able to be carried out in XP.)

1. Click the Start menu and double-click on Control Panel.
2. In the left side click the top option Control Panel Home (For the new Control Panel layout)
3. Under Security click “Allow a program through Windows Firewall” and wait for the list to popup.
4. Click “Add program” under the Exceptions tab.
5. Click “Browse…” and go to the directory that Maple Story is installed to.
Either Crogram FilesNexonMaplestory or C:NexonMaplestory

6. Add all of the programs in there to the lists by double-clicking the program then clicking “OK”. (If you have previously added the programs to the Exceptions list, please delete them before re-adding.)

And it should work. I turned off my Firewall (From step 6 you’d click the General tab and clicking Off and the “OK” button.) for more assurance that it’d work.
