Nightmare~04

Nightmare: New Life

I followed Chris out of the circle as we reached the top of the tower. We passed through a set of doors. In front of us was a long pathway made of cobblestones. On each side of the pathway were silver statues, each was unique and no two looked alike.. Behind the statues were maple trees that gave off an orange glow.

Chris dug through his bag and pulled out his Red Maple Bandana and tied it around his hand. We kept walking silently. I was calm on the outside, but my insides were buzzing anxiously. As we approached the end of the path there was a giant dirt field in front of us. There were hundreds of people talking and just walking around.

“What’s going on?” I asked Chris in a nervous voice.

“In each class there are only enough dorms for two-hundred-and-fifty people. Each year we recruit new people. People who don’t live up to standards get kicked out. Some people even quit. Some even die. Due to these problems, each class usually has around twenty spots open each year. After registrations each year the whole school goes through a rank list and get put into classes depending on ranks.” Chris explained.

“All current members of Hidden Street please go to your rooms or stay off the field. People here to register please remain quiet as we call people up for tests.” A voice boomed through loudspeakers.

“Well see you later. Good luck. If you get in, come to the library after dinner.” Chris called out running through the crowd. I tried to say bye, but he was already far gone.

I just waited for my name to be called. Although there were so many people it was dead quiet. I guess they’re really serious about this. I guess I should be, too.

I stood there for a few hours as people started getting called. I didn’t know what you had to do for the actually test, but I heard people fighting. I heard a lot of people shooting there mouths off as they were un-accepted. I heard only about three people shout out in joy so far.

“Ken from Orbis. It is your turn. Please come up to the front.” The voice on the loudspeakers called. Finally my turn.

I pushed myself through the crowd, although most of the people were gone after being rejected. I finally got myself to the front.

“Are you Ken from Orbis?” an elderly Fire/Poison Mage asked me. He had a black bandana with a white maple leaf on his right shoulder. I assumed it meant he was a teacher.

“Yeah.” I quickly replied walking towards him.

“Ok. Please go over there.” He said pointing to a part of the field that was completely empty. I walked over to the part of the field. It was pretty big. I saw people form the crowd all staring at me. There was a long table across from me with three people sitting at it who I assumed were the judges. A referee walked towards me.

“Hand me your bag and your extra sword.” The referee said holding out his hands. I took off my bag and gave him it.

“The extra sword?” he asked.

“I’ll be dual wielding.” I replied. The referee looked surprised, but nodded his head and stood next to the panel of judges.

“Defeat the monster and our panel of judges will score you. Each will score you on a scale of one to ten with ten being the highest. You must have at least twenty-two points to get into Hidden Street.” The referee called out. “Three…..two……one……START!”

I saw the referee grab a monster sack from a giant pile. He threw it in the air. It opened itself up and a cloud of smoke steamed out. I gripped my Twin Shadows as I readied to unsheathe them. What kind of monster will it be?

Suddenly the smoke seemed to be sucks into one spot as a massive body came downwards with amazing speed. I quickly barrel-rolled away as the body crashed into the ground. It sent a rumble along the ground as rocks around it flew into the air.

I looked forward to see a gigantic Mushmom nestled in a crater. This’ll be a challenge. I saw it start to move around, trying to get up. I quickly dashed forward as I unsheathed my Twin Shadows. I used Power Strike and slashed at the giant orange blob.

It screamed out as two gashed appeared on its side. I dropped both my blades. I clutched my right hand. I looked at it. It was badly bruised. I thought back to what had happened in the circle-thing. I judged my wrist was sprained. I tried to ignore the pain, but it was too great. I picked up one of the blades with my left hand. Crap! I have to use both my blades to register with them.

I slowly picked up the other blade with my right hand. It stung a bit, but would last…for a while. I predicted my hand would last about ten minuets before the pain would be unbearable.

I looked into the crater and saw Mushmom was gone. I quickly scanned the area around me, but it wasn’t anywhere to be found. Suddenly a shadow fell upon mine. I looked up to see it right above me. I raised my Twin Shadows above me and made an “x”-like shape with them. I wouldn’t have time to run.

I quickly used Iron Body and Power Guard in quick succession as Mushmom crashed on me. My right hand exploded with pain. The Power Guard went into affect and reflected some of the damage. The Mushmom cried out in pain as the Power Guard did a reversed earthquake-like attack into the air around Mushmom. It flew into the air and landed a few yards away.

This is my chance to finish it off! I ignored the pain in my hand and dashed forward as fast as I could. I saw it struggle to get up, but I would never give it the chance to. I brought both my blades down low as I gained speed.

I was a few feet away from it as I ducked and got ready to use Final Attack. I jumped up right in front of if and slashed it vertically. A large gash appeared between its eyes. Blood spewed out as it started going back. It screamed out. Not dead yet?

I stuck my left blade forward and brought my right blade upwards a little tilted so my blades crossed and formed an “x”. The Mushmom jumped into the air, trying to jump on me. Suddenly pain clenched my right hand. I dropped my blade as I screamed out in pain.

Suddenly the pain stopped. I felt my body depleted of energy. I dropped my other sword and fell backwards. My back hit the ground. I tried to move my body, but it wouldn’t budge. I looked up to see the Mushmom closing in. This was it. I would die here.

I prepared myself for what to come, but it never came. Before the Mushmom reached me a Fire Arrow shot at it and pushed her away. I felt an arm grab me and pull me away. I looked and saw the old Fire/Poison Mage form before stand in front of the Mushmom. It looked like it was about to attack when he raised his staff into the air. Suddenly a pillar of fire rose up around him and the surrounding air exploded.

When the smoke disappeared the battlefield was empty. There was no trace of the Mushmom left. He collected my Twin Shadows and Teleported in front of me. He handed them to me. I reached out and got them. The moment I grabbed the right one I dropped it.

My hand was burning with pain. I picked up the blade and quickly sheathed it.

“Too bad the ending was bad, but let’s see what the judges thought!” the referee exclaimed.

Each judge held up a giant sign with a number on it. I mentally tallied up the numbers. I had a twenty-eight. The referee announced my score. Inside I was bursting with joy, but I had no way to show it on the outside as I blacked out. At least I passed.

When I came to I was in a bed in a medical ward of some sort. I slowly got up. My Twin Shadows along with my bag were on a nightstand next to my bed. My right hand was completely healed. I moved my fingers around to test it.

I looked around. It was an empty room. There was a small office in the corner. Inside was a Priest. She looked at me and quickly got out of the room.

“Good thing your all healed up. You missed the registration ceremony.” She talked very quickly. “I’ll hurry and take you to your room.” She started walking out the ward. I quickly got up and collected myself. I started to run after her.

She led me through a few hallways and finally found ourselves outside. The sun was setting. I looked behind us. I could tell it was the main building as there were four smaller buildings behind it and it was the biggest building. In front of it were the field and the pathway I saw earlier. To both sides was wilderness.

“The main building is where you will have all your classes and such. You will sleep and eat in your own building. You can go anywhere on schools grounds until midnight at which you must be in your building and stay in it.” The Priest explained quickly. “You’re in Red.”

She led me two a pretty big white building with a broad, red stripe running around it. To the left were two smaller white buildings. One was plain while the other one had a yellow stripe running around it. To the right was a bigger white building with a blue strip running around it.

“This is the building you will sleep and eat in. You are to stay in your building after dark. Any wandering around and you will be sent to the headmaster’s office. Your room is three-zero-three. Any questions should be asked to your roommate. ” The nurse quickly explained as she pushed me in through a set of doors. She quickly closed it behind me and Teleported away. Busy lady.

I looked around. The hallways seemed empty. I saw a kid pass by.

“Umm where is room three-zero-three?” I asked tapping him on the shoulder. He turned around and looked shocked.

“R-room….t-three-z-zero-t-three?” he stuttered.

“Yup.” I replied uneasily. What was with this guy?

He pointed down the hallway and ran off.

“Thanks.” I called out to him, but he was already gone.

I walked down the hallway to find myself in a giant room. I looked around. There were two floors. The top floor had a giant hole in the middle of it with railings around it. It had a few bookcases and chairs and desks and stuff. The bottom floor seemed like a dining room. At the other side of the room I saw a giant, set of double doors.

I walked towards it and turned the handle on the doors. I found myself in a slightly wider hallway full of doors. I saw a staircase to my right. I went up it to find another identical hallway. I looked at each door and saw numbers on them. I saw room three-zero-three was the first door on my right. I knocked on the door.

“Um….I’ll be coming in.” I stated opening the door slightly. “Hi. I’ll be your new roommate.”

I froze before I even took a step into the room. Inside was a girl. My roommate is a girl?! I took a step back and closed the door.

“This isn’t happening.” I whispered to myself. Maybe they got my room mixed up or maybe it’s the wrong room.I checked the room number. It read “three-zero-three”. I sighed. I slowly re-opened the door.

“Um….Hi.” I called out as I saw the girl scribbling something on a piece of paper on a desk. She quickly turned around. She had a Thorns by her side. She was wearing a White Anakarune with a matching Seraphis. She had a Yellow Maple Bandana tied around the end of her Thorns. Oh. She’s in yellow. She can’t be my roommate.

“ If you’re in Yellow why are you here?” I asked.

“Why are you here? I don’t see any signs of you belonging to a group.” She asked back.

“This is my new room.” I replied.

“Oh. So you’re my brother’s roommate.” She said aloud.

“Diana! Come on. We need to get back to our building!” a male voice shouted from behind me.

“Josh.” Diana said surprised.

I looked at him. He had a Golden River sheathed at the side of his Dark Scorpio set. He also had on a Dark Identity. He had a Yellow Maple Bandana tied around him left shoulder. His right arm was in a cast. I had a bad feeling about him. He had a strange aura about him.

“Who are you?” he spat at me.

“This is my room.” I replied. He smirked. He walked into the room passing me and grabbed Diana by her arm.

“Come on! We’re going.” He spat at her. She quickly grabbed her Thorns as he forcefully dragged her out of the room.

I unsheathed my Twin Shadows and held it to his throat.

“Doesn’t seem like she wants to go with you.” I glared. Then something unexpected happened.

“It’s ok.” Diana replied. She walked forward and lowered my blades with her hands. Josh smirked again.

“Come on. We’re going.” And he pulled her out of the room. I sheathed my Twin Shadows. I closed the door.

I untied the two scabbards from my clothes and set them on the empty bed, which I assumed was mine. On the bed were a neatly folded Red Maple Bandana and a schedule of my classes. I looked at my schedule.

First Period: White Knight Practice
Second Period: Survival
Third Period: History
Fourth Period: Cooking
Fifth Period: Geography
Sixth Period: Lunch
Seventh Period: Monster Classification
Eighth Period: Combat

I wasn’t sure what I would do in most of these classes. I decided to ask my roommate. I set my bed and placed all my stuff inside a little closet near my bed. The room was divided into two. Each side had a window, bed, closet, shelf, and bathroom. The door fell on the dividing line for the room.

I walked over to my roommate’s desk. I was curious about what Diana had written before she had left. It was a small note.

“ ‘Dear Jay, Please. Don’t turn yourself in. Don’t worry. I can handle it. Love, Diana.’ ” I read out loud. I guess Jay’s her brother. I wonder what she meant.

I went over to my bed and lied down. I sighed. Suddenly I got up. Crap! I was supposed to meet Chris in the library. Oh wait. He’s in Red, too. I guess I’ll see him at breakfast.

Suddenly the door to my room opened. In walked my roommate.

“I’m Ken, you’re new roommate.” I greeted. “Hi Jay- Hey wait! Chris!” It was Chris walking into my room.

“Ken! I didn’t know you would get into Red. I was waiting at the library the whole time!” He exclaimed.

“Sorry. I didn’t know where it was and I was getting set up here.” I apologized.

“Oh well. It’s great you got into Red. And we’re roommates!” he shouted joyfully. Someone banged our door.

“Hey! Be quiet! Lights out was a few minutes ago!” a shrill female voice shouted. We apologized and immediately changed into our Sauna Robes before crawling into bed.

“That’s our Watcher. Each dorm is assigned a Watcher to keep us in check when we don’t have classes. We’ll talk in the morning.” Chris whispered.

“Okay.” I agreed. I tried to sleep, but couldn’t from all the excitement. However a few minutes later I felt myself doze off.

  1. Where is Ch 4? There are some mistakes up there that a spellchecker wouldn’t get, and you might want to scan through it to purify it. The part about Diana was hilarious =P

  2. Eh? Do I smell Rivalry between Ken and Josh? ;P
Anyways, not such a cliff-hangy ending like you usually do, BUT AWESOME NONETHELESS! 😀 You sorta surprised me again! I thought about Chris being your room mater but when Diana was there originally I was like, “Is she THAT tough?” And then when Josh was yellow it also surprised me, Hmm, I wonder why they were there? :0! I demand a continuation mister!~

    Regards,
    Rob
