I woke up to find myself on the floor or my room. Why was I on the floor? I got up and looked around. On my bed was a girl sleeping. Oh yeah… I thought back to last night. We had agreed to Jenny sleeping in my room on my bed and me on the floor while Alex got the guest room. I silently got ready for school careful not to wake anyone up.

“Alan I’m leaving!” Stephanie shouted hurriedly as she slammed the door shut. I winced as the sound of the door rang through the house. No awareness for other people….

I looked back to Jenny. I was relieved she was still sleeping. I scribbled a note and left it on my desk saying that I would be back at 3:00P.M.

I took a deep breath and strained to think if I forgot anything. I checked my watch. I still had about twenty minutes before I had to leave. I sat down at the kitchen table. I got out my books and got started on my homework that I had been unable to finish the day before.

I scribbled down the last answer and shut my book. I stuffed everything into my bag and checked my watch. I had five minutes. I guess I’ll go early today. I slowly closed the door behind me and locked it.

I started to walk to school. It was a little warmer than the day before. I unzipped my jacket as I was walking. I played with the medallion around my neck. So much power in a small thing. But Alex is right. I can’t control it that well. I thought about this for a while.

I heard the bell ringing. I looked up and rushed into the school. I’ll think about it after school. As the school day slowly passed by a thought hit me. It was Friday. I can spend the weekend training. Hmmm…but where? The rest of the day went by. I mostly half-listened to my teachers as I thought about this.

“Alan! You seemed so zoned out during school.” A voice called out cheerfully. I felt an arm tighten around my neck. I looked up to find Dave. He was wearing jeans too big for him, a giant white shirt, and a black bandana. He was the thug of the school. He could pick any lock in the world, find a boot-legged versions of anything, and build almost about anything.

“What’s up?” Dave asked as he let go.

“Nothing.” I replied back. I felt a drop of guilt fizz in my stomach. I had known Dave since elementary school. We were best friends, practically brothers, but I couldn’t tell him the truth. He’ll never believe me.

“Is it a girl?” Dave asked in a whisper. He was half-right I guess.

“No.” I shouted back. I turned away. I didn’t want him to see me blush. He started to laugh.

“You just blushed!” Dave laughed pointing a finger at me. “So who is it?”

“Nobody.” I replied trying to run away. He caught up to me.

“Fine. I’ll drop it.” Dave sighed. “So can I come over today?” The question caught me off-guard.

“I don’t know. I’m kind of busy with homework and stuff.” I replied trying to find an excuse.

“Come on! We barely got any homework.” Dave begged.

“Umm….how about tomorrow?” I asked. If its tomorrow I can at least prepare for him coming.

“Ugh…fine….but I’m coming no matter what you say.” Dave called out laughing as he jumped into his home-made car. The state had authorized a special under-age driver’s license for him. He knew more about cars than anyone I knew. He could build a car in one weekend if he could find the right parts.

“See ya tomorrow!” I called back. I sighed. Now I had to find a place for Alex and Jenny to stay at while Dave came over.

I unlocked the door to the house and walked inside.

“I’m home!” I called out resting my bag in my room. There wasn’t a reply.

“Anyone home?” I called out again. Again no reply.

“Jenny? Alex? Where’d you guys go?” I called out looking around the house. This is bad. Where are they?

I went to the back to see if they were there. As soon as I stepped out I quickly bent down. The side of the Heaven’s Gate managed to cut off the tip of a few hairs on my head.

“Crap I missed.” Alex joked.

“Alan are you ok?!” Jenny asked rushing to me.

“Yeah I’m fine.” I replied slowly getting up.

“What are you doing?” I asked walking to Alex.

“Practice? After your performance last night I think you need some, too.” Alex chuckled.

“Fine, fine. I’ll practice on Sunday. But right now I need to find a place where you guys can stay. My friend is coming over tomorrow. And-.” I started, but I was cut off.

“Who’s this friend?” Dave’s voice asked behind me.

“Dave!” I blurted out. I tried to stop him from seeing Alex and his sword, but it was too late.

“Wow! Where did you get this?!” Dave asked excitedly examining the blade. Alex looked to me as if asking me to instruct him what to do.

“Dave! How did you get here?” I asked trying to lure his attention away. He turned to me to answer. At that moment Jenny stood next to Alex and waved her hand in the air. A gust of wind surrounded them and they disappeared as Jenny used Hide.

“I picked your lock-. Hey! Where did they go?!” Dave shouted looking behind them.

“What do you mean?” I asked putting on a worried look. If I make him believe what he saw was an illusion everything will be okay.

“Those two people! They disappeared!” Dave shouted.

“Huh? Dave are you sick?” I asked adding a touch of concern into my voice. I felt guilty lying to him, but it was for his own good. I wouldn’t drag him into all this. Ever since Jenny and Alex crossed over to this world it seems as if monsters are starting to come across, too.

“Maybe I am sick. Well I’ll hang here for a while and go home.” Dave agreed looking a little pale. I should have joined the drama club.

“That’s cool.” I replied walking inside with him. As I closed the back door I looked out into the backyard and held up one finger. I slowly mouthed “One hour”. I was sure they got the message. I guessed Dave would leave within an hour.

“Hungry?” I asked as we started to hang out. We started doing all sorts of stuff we normally did when hanging out: watching TV, playing some PS2, going outside, and just plain talking. I almost forgot about everything else. I hoped that this would never end.

“Well I’ll be going now. I feel a little better, but I think should probably rest tomorrow. Sorry.” Dave called out as he walked to his car.

“It’s okay. See ya later!” I shouted back. I watched as he drove off out of sight. I stood there for a few minutes.

“Well I guess I’ll go tell them he left.” I said to myself as I walked back into the house.

I froze. I felt a strange chill run down my spine. I thought about it and realized I had felt it when I had encountered all the other monsters.

“Alan! Another monster appeared in this world!” Jenny warned running towards me. Alex followed behind me. Was it some sort of GM ability to know when monsters are near?

“I know. Let’s go.” I said as I ran towards where I felt the monster was. Lily flew through the air with wings. She used Hide as we went on. Alex was dashing along the ground with amazing speed. I pushed the star into the gem and turned it and released.

I felt my clothes changing into a Hermit. I was about to use Flash Jump when I thought back to Alex’s words. “You should learn to fight without energy. There’ll be a lot of instances when you run out of energy. You have to be prepared for them.” Instead I tapped into my GM powers and unfurled my own pair of wings. I flew into the air.

Alex glanced at me and ignored me. He’s just jealous he can’t fly. I used Hide as we approached the site where the monsters would be.

I froze. This was chaos. Cars were crashed all over the place. People were running and screaming. Some of them dead on the floor. I stared directly at the cause of it all. A giant mob of Death Teddies. They were crawling all over the place. A couple of them were incase people inside their teddy bears and sucking their energy out. The police were shooting at them, but to no avail.

I peered into the mob and saw one of them holding a kid around my age. I immediately recognized the face. It was Dave.

“You’ll all die.” I breathed as I imagined an Ilbi in my hand. I used Avenger and threw it as hard as I could at the Death Teddy holding Dave. Dave I’ll get you out of this. I promise.
