Cadvan Chronicles – Chapter 3

Chapter 2 – link

The paper knife hit with perfect accuracy. A luminescent glow enveloped Cadvan as happy thoughts rushed through his head. A flash of blinding white light shrouded the alleyway and in an instant, Cadvan was gone, as if nothing had happened at all in that alleyway.

Cadvan woke up, a bit dazed but still alert. He scanned the vicinity of the area and found nothing. He saw a bowl of soup and eagerly drank it. There he waited patiently for someone to come. He looked at the room, it had a row of targets, aligned on the far side. He saw a various collection of daggers and stars although he could not reach through glass. There he sat and stared at the weapons.

A noise woke him from his dreamy state. A very well hidden door opened. It was well hidden with its hinges and edges painted white in the white background of the wall. Cadvan stared at the procession of people coming in. A total of 5 people. 4 with the same coloured armor.

“Greetings, Cadvan, I am going to be your new mentor in your arts regardless of what they are. You can call me Cai, and here is your new guild master and his accompanying members,” announced Cai.

“Nice to meet you,” Cadvan replied. At that point, Cadvan noticed his shirt and pants were slowly melding into the same colour of the armor as his 4 guild members.

“We assume that you want to do something, which is exactly what we have prepared for you. Follow us and you can work with your guild mates. One is an assassin, skilled in the dark arts of throwing stars and he is your guild leader. His name is Vincent. The second is a warrior, named Bruno. The third, an archer, she likes to be called Sharmaine and last but not least a mage called Ryusei.” said Cai.

As Cadvan and the 4 guild members headed for the door, Cadvan followed suit. They walked through a few rooms. Cai headed towards a large room with an array of weapons lying on the ground. Cai weighed some weapons then tossed it to Cadvan, who caught it successfully. After that, Cai and the guild members marched into a wide room, with a huge stone ornament in the middle.

“We have decided to fire up the training centre here. We have made training more realistic. In this case, you must defend the huge stone ornament, as we let in a controlled amount of creatures in,” informed Cadvan, “You start now.”

Cadvan ran behind the glass to watch as the 5 instinctively jumped onto the stone ornament. Creatures started swarming out of newly made holes. Snails rushed out, followed by slimes and an evolved form of mushroom, with a rainbow coloured shell. They also found a demented species of animal that appeared to be half crocodile and half man which produced a foul black mist.. There were ricochets of arrows and stars followed by slashes and stabs. Magic shook the ground as they each went into individual combat.

Cadvan slashed at the half crocodile, half man as Bruno rolled by wrestling a mushroom. Vincent and Sharmaine stood back, carefully aiming and firing stars or arrows at the deformed creatures, careful not to hit their guild members. While this was happening, Ryusei stood quietly to the side casting his magic and creating a shield around the stone ornament.

Dead carcasses lay everywhere as they the fivesome combated the creatures. Unexpectedly, a large silhouette appeared and stood over Cadvan. As the claws came down to squish Cadvan in to a ball of cotton fluff …
