Bad Timing

OK. I think I really need to clarify this. I even changed the title. This is not a rant on my parents, its just a rant on my bad luck, even though I think this happens to more people than just me.

I’m not complaining about limited playing times- I’m complaining about playing times ending at the most annoying moments.

After dying twice at 99%, I had to stop playing and endure a week before getting that tiny 8% before levelling up.

That was really annoying.

Another time, I had to endure a week at 97%ness until I could get out of that Level 18 magician set that I had been adamantly wearing for a very long time and finally wear a shiny new chaos robe.

It would be even worse if something like that happened at level 29 or 69.

In fact, at level 29, after a few failed PQ attempts that wasted my time, I had to grind like crazy. By the time I leveled up and started my advancement, my parents were yelling like it was World War III.

Grendel the Old: Would you prefer to be the versatile Ice/Lightning Wizard, the kindly Cleric or the powerful Fire/Poison wizard.
Me: It is with great consideration the I pick the-
Mum: Get up here will you! It’s 10:30pm and you’re still hunched in front of that horrible computer screen.

Way to ruin a special moment.

As I get to higher levels, it’s only going to get worse:

*Me attempting the world’s first solo of Zakum, with everyone spamming megaphones, ready to announce the long awaited results*

Mum: Time Up! Take a break and go to bed!
Me: Let me finish this thing first.
Mum: Five minutes, that’s all I’ll give you.

*Five minutes later- Zakum is half-dead*

Mum: It’s five minutes already, get back up.
Me: (Desperately stalling for time) Wait, I’m shutting the computer down.

*Five minutes later- Zakum has only a tiny bit of HP left- Parents have been complaining and trying to get me off the computer for quite a while*
*Power plug gets pulled*

Me: ARGHHHH!!!!!

While I probably won’t get that extreme, it’ll probably get close.

Another bad time to have this happen to you is in PQs. I got into this really good party, which is really rare for a under 40 wizard like me, and we get into PQ. In the middle of our first PQ, the bombshell blows. I stall for time until I finish the PQ. Then, though the party knew I would be leaving, they rush immediately and somehow get in, but I had to log out.

Asides from PQ, Job Advancements and Boss killing, ship journeys are also a bad time to have parents shouting at you. After dishing out some decent mesos and quite a lot of time, the last thing you want is to have done it in vain.

At least I don’t play MapleSEA.

PS: I had to rewrite this twice because I kept on accidentally clicking on other links while typing this. I learnt my lesson after my first re-typing got deleted and decided to write it on notepad and Copy and Paste.

  1. Respect your parents, they are just doing what’s best for you.

You think killing Zakum are more important than schoolworkand stuff? I agree that games are fun too, sometimes I can’t control myself. (Soloing Zakum is a very great accomplishment, but it would be better for you to be healthy than earning a reputation in a game. Gonna be megaphoned and whispers at you all day~)

Read your entire blog again. You’re ranting about how your parents are stopping you from killing Zakum.
Just think about it, think about it.

(I know how you feel about it, I’ve experienced it and I am not an adult, I’m only a 14-year old crazy teenager)

  2. No.

The whole thing is a kind of (bad) joke or whatever.

Never mind. I knew someone would say this. I just mean that I hate having to stop playing at really annoying times.

It’s nothing against my parents- its against my bad luck.

And the Zakum thing isn’t true- its just an exaggeration on what would really annoy me.

But yeah, you got a point when you say that Parent’s decisions> Maplestory

And soloing Zakum is NOT my ultimate goal or anything.

Oh yes, another thing, I have re-read my blog, I accidentally deleted it and had to rewrite it twice.

  3. What does luck have to do with all that?

I guess you didn’t understand what I mean about “reread your blog” huh? I need someone else to explain it

  4. I sympathise with you. I get what you’re saying – it is pretty pissant to have your parents break in at the most inopportune times. I mean, not during the 3-hour grinding spree, not during the hours of boredom and spamming the FM with your message of “Selling Special M – special prices!”, but at an actual. . .important moment, I guess. Admittedly, it’s pretty rare for me as I mostly play when my mum’s out or when I know I have nothing else to do, but it’s happened before and it does piss me off same as you.
Like for example being called to come help your mum with tech problems that your 7-year-old cousin would know the answer to while you and your friends are partied and forging your way into the dungeon, and you’re currently located in a Stirge-filled cave. D:

Think about it this way, you other guys: it’s not that he’s whinging about his parents or anything like that. It’s just that the timing his parents choose to butt in seems to be the worst possible. Ouch about the PQs.

Well, I think I get you at least, hit me if I’m wrong. I laughed at that part about the job advance, though. That was pretty funny. xD

  5. Because it was more appropriate in accordance with the concept, then, I’m guessing. It certainly seems so. xD

  6. I hate when stuff like that happens. I’ll be on a ship ride, and my parents will go, “GET OFF. NOW.” so I’ll have wasted that money, and then later when I go back on, and try it again, they’ll go, “WE NEVER SAID YOU COULD GO BACK ON.” and so that will be wasted, and then the next time I try, I’ll probably get disconnected three times. I totally get what you’re saying. And the part with the job advancement made me laugh.

  7. I don’t think anyone can get it much worse than me. I get my whole bloody modem confiscated. And it’s already after my major exams.

Imagine: not only no Maple, no MSN, no email, nadda.

Then again, I accept that it’s all for my own good. I’m too addicted to the Internet, so it’s the maternal form of damage control over here. *shrugs* It’s just annoying though, that I can’t mug for 3rd job like I planned to. Oh well.

  8. That’s pretty bad luck there, to have your parents come busting down on you at the most inopportune times. I’m glad my parents aren’t so strict with my gaming hours, so long as I continue getting good grades.

I actually mapled through my major exams, lol.

  9. Che.
I have never once studied in my life, I still manage to barely muddle through.
But yes, I think whenever parents seem to but in at the WORST times makes me want to rip my hair off, burn it, smoke it, and then eat it.
Best way is to soften them up like 10 minutes before game time, like I get my mom in front of the TV or tell my dad that some real good show is on.
Unfortunately, it only grants you an extra 2-3 mins >.>

  10. z0mg silver, you have the same thing as me D: my parents took out my modem a couple of times
since im in 8th grade, i get it back in like 2 days or so, but i can usually find it (unless my mom hides it ><)
i never study, get good grades, and all that asian thingy
but still. . piano and chinese (goes on a rant) *ahem*
they dont let me buy manga (but i do anyways 😀 somehow. .) and when im on the computer its always
STOP PLAYING THAT CARTOON THING (in chinese) when im doing my current event. . . /cough
and yea bad interruption times especially on the levelling thing (i hope that doesnt happen to me on lvl 69 or during 3rd job ><)
ide completely sue my parents if they did that! >:O if i had money. . -__x”

That’s exactly what I was trying to say.

  12. AH HEE HEE HEE HEE HEE! XDXD

Gawsh, I was in the middle of killing alishar once, and my sis was like “DAMIEN, GET ME A TOILET ROLL NOW, OR I’LL TELL MUM YOU’RE PLAYING GAMES”. So I died. Ho-hum,

    :Damon
