When Baka is Used

This doesn’t really have much to do with games, but more of the language used in games. Actually…more of the ONE word used in games, blogs, posts, etc. That word is Baka.

Yes, baka means idiot in Japanese. However…it also means cow in Philipino. Now, calling someone a baka is calling them an idiot..in Japanese. But then..if you mean it in Philipino, congratulations. You just called someone a cow. Not very nice. But then again, being called an idiot isn’t too nice either. It seems like almost everyone knows the meaning of baka in Japanese, but not in Philipino. Is it because Japanese is more known? Post your thoughts here…I’m interested to here what others have to say.

  1. Yes, the word baka is more known in Japanese due to the popularity of anime. XD

I didn’t know what it meant in Philipino, that’s interesting.

  2. Or, YOu could use Bakero, meaning: slow (as in slow to figure out) dimwit. Baka means stupid more than idiot most of the time.

  3. Haha “bakas”. Haven’t heard that much. Mostly people refer to one person but there are rare occurances when that happens. Yes, I favor using Bakero so people won’t get mixed up, in case they are bilingual or just understand both meanings of the word.

  4. I hate to correct people here but the word is actually “baka yarou”, not bakero. it just sounds like “bakero” when you say it really fast.

  5. Like how “bakas” is slang, Bakero has become slang, I guess people got lazy of tryping two words lol.

  6. Oh yes, I have noticed the word “baka” has been used as a term to refer as “idiot”. And thank you for pointing out that other languages exist! Hah, cow. But I think in Japanese it’s sounded as, “Bahh-kah.” Forgive me if I’m wrong ><“
And I’m pretty sure in Tagalog [the Philippine languag] it is sounded as, “Buh-kaa”.

I don’t know it that makes any difference, but I think in Tagalog, it’s said faster? Either way, it’s the same when you write it, So uhm, My entire comment would have been for nothing ><“.

    Sincerely,
    Jordan

  7. I think it’s getting annoying. Poser-anime-fans go around calling people “baka” because they think they’re special because they learned a new word.

  8. HELL YEAH! there is a guild with a leader who doesn’t know how to use Baka well. He made a guild named stayBAKA!
