The Vagrant ~ Escape

Brace did a flip in midair so she could watch me. She threw back her arm before slinging her yo yo beside me. I grabbed the chain about the time she threw the other one up and swinging it down, wrapping around a hera hoverbike. She swung around a bit before I followed. I didn’t have much of a grip, seeing as how I could only grab it with one arm, but I was somehow able to hang on while I swung.

“Darkon! Quick! Oh, God! Please hurry!” she yelled with a cry of pain. As strong as she was, I doubt even her could withstand all of this for a while. As soon as she said that, the hoverbike took off while we were swinging, putting less weight on her shoulders by swaiying us.

“Palence.. Are you.. ok?” she said pitifully after a few minutes.

“Yes, of course.. This arrow hurts, but I can deal until we get to.. Where?”

“Darkon.. We’ll be there soon.. I hope..”

The rest of the trip was silent. Brace letting out a moan of pain here and there. I didn’t blame her. I balanced myself on the yo yo as well as I could. Leather boots don’t work so well when most of your weight is on a blade.

Land. Clouds. Land. Industrial area. Land. Moutains.

“That’s far enough! Set us down..” The hoverbike was did as it was told, curving down and bringing us to the top of the cave. I hopped off as soon as I felt the yo yo hit the ground. As it continued to go further down, Brace was dropped onto the ground, letting out another scream as it dragged her across the ground by her arm a bit, in result of it itself having to go farther to land.

I ran over to Brace, sitting beside her as she laid there helplessly.

“We made it..”

“Yeah. Thanks to you.”

“You’re welcome..” At this point, she closed her eyes and fell into a deep slumber.

I stood up and took a good sigh. I didn’t know much about Darkon. Of course, I knew a few rumours. Such as the ferocious beasts that could be found. Fortunately, we were on a large landmass with no organisms. Unfortunately, we had no supplies. Only the shirts on our backs.

I walked out a bit and looked around. The area was strange. Grass was apparent, but the land seemed to be pieced together sloppily. Platforms sinking and sticking up above others. To the north and south, were large mountains, much different than the area we were settled in. A void to our east and west. Many people flew overhead, leaving trails of shining dust or a large line.

What have we gotten ourselves into, I thought with a sigh. I lifted my left hand a bit before the sharp pain from the arrow kicked in. I let it dangle back down before grabbing an end of the arrow with my right hand. I count down slowly in my head before jerking it out. I let out a cry in pain before collapsing to the ground. Much farther in there than I thought.

I rolled over, letting sleep come quickly.

“Palence! Comeon! Wake up, damnit!”

I burst up. It was around noon. The sun settled high in the air, showing no benevolence as it beat down on me. I glanced over to Brace. She was in the same spot. I wasn’t really surprised. “Are you going to just stare at me or are you going to get my yo yo off my hoverbike?”

“No, no. You need a chain.”

“Oh, ha ha,” she replied flatly with a sigh. She was sitting legs stretched out in front of her. Brace was slunched over, relaxing her arms and shoulders. “Not in the mood for jokes..”

“Rhisis, just trying to lighten the mood.”

“How is your arm?” As soon as she spoke these words, I felt a soreness around the wound in my arm. I let out a small moan in pain while I grabbed it. I rubbed it soothingly.

“Good, I guess. That arrow was penetrated pretty deep,” I replied with a sigh. I got up and walked over to the hover bike. It was nesteled on the ground with the yo yo wrapped around it twice.

“Sorry about that Palence.. I didn’t think they would follow me.”

“Up,” I commanded the bike. It lifted a few feet off the ground and simply hovered. “Mind explaining why they were after you?”

“Well, after Kilesence sent Cometia to search for you, I sorta stopped reporting in any information I could find.. I also sorta prevented many of them from finding you. She found out and started hunting me as well,” she said as I unwrapped the chain around the bike.

“Well, do you have any idea why they are after me?” I asked as I tossed the yo yo beside her.

“Sadly.. I don’t. She really wants you more dead than alive by now, Palence.”

Another sigh. “Tell me something I don’t know.”

I sat down beside her, taking off my cloak and setting it to the side. Brace simply stared at the ground before eventually leaning back slowly to lay herself down, all the while letting out another moan of pain. “What now..?”

“I don’t know, Brace.. We can’t keep running forever.”

“Escpecially while trying to find my sister..”

“Especially when we can’t get into town..”

“Wait! What?”

“You know as well as I do that Cometia members are going to be crawling around towns.. No way we could possibly stroll in and restock on supplies, Palence..”

“You’re right..”

I layed down as well, simply staring into the sky. Pondering what we could do. Every now and then, someone would shoot across my gaze. We were in an akward position. Odds were definetly against us. Now wounded, we were more vunerable than ever. Now that we couldn’t restock, we were bound to lose this little war of attrition.

“Palence.. What do we do?”

“Nothing,” I said with a sigh. “Nothing at all..”

[h]Writer’s Notes[/h]
… Yeeeaaaahhhhhh…

After being sick for a while, I didn’t feel like typing this up at all. I tried to really make their voices sound a bit more realistic. I failed, I think.

I really thought good and hard about how this would begin, ever since chapter six. To tell you the truth, I’m not totally sure if Brace’s arms should be dislocated or not.

Oh, well. Just enjoy this nice short chapter.

(Feel free to correct all my errors. I know I made them but I’m not too sure what I messed up on.)

    I rubbed it smoothingly.

    Odds were definetly against us.

Small mistakes; the first just sounds strange. Hmm.

But I still like the chapter. Hope you’re feeling better!
