The world is an interesting one. In it are those who diligently fight the monsters, those who provide a service, and those who make no effort or resort to trickery to get by. Throughout the world, we call them ‘scammers’, those who making a living by perfecting this art. When a person gets scammed, whether it be from hard-earned items or mesos or even their ‘soul’, it leaves quite the impact when the person comes to their senses. The first thing that is thought of after the initial shock is “How could this have happened to me?”.
This leaves to deep resentment of the person who is the scammer. Most of the time, if not all of the time, the scammer is someone familiar to the person, usually, a trusted friend, which makes the whole ordeal more tragic than it would, if it were a stranger, for example. Due to the overwhelming loss of accomplishment, mesos and items of value, the person usually leaves the world, never to return to it.
Like some people in the world of Bera, I was scammed once. I had lost quite a few items myself, most of them equips of value. Since the person was a friend of a friend, I had let my guard down and trusted him. He wanted a closer look at the items in question, so I dropped them on the floor for him to see.
Truly, a big mistake.
In seconds, he had picked all of them up and ran off to the bustling sector of Perion, where everyone performed business transactions. (To be clear, all of this happened before the creation of shops.) I followed him there and tried to track him down. He ignored me and went deeper into the crowd of people. At this point, he was untracable.
I was crestfallen; all of those slain monsters that I went through to get those items were gone, never to return. After some time, I had shrugged it off. I informed my friend, who I had met him through on what he had done. A few minutes later, the truth was out, despite the scammer using a very cheap lie, saying that someone had taken his ‘soul’ and performed that evil deed. What a pathetic person, I thought. There were other factors that led for this story to be true, but to get into that would take too much time.
However, for those who have been scammed, here’s what you can do to not lose motivation:
Talk to some of your friends – This is probably the best step you can take. When it happened to me, the friend that I met the scammer through stepped up, along with some of her friends and gave me a few items to get back on my feet. I ended up with about 300k and quite a few diamonds. For some, this may be the moment in which your real friends will stick out from the others and, it would be a nice time for one’s guild to bond together.
Just let it go – You may be thinking, “Are you crazy?! I worked hard to get those items and I had to train for x amount of time before I finally found one!!” Well, I understand that, but at the same time, look at it this way: The equips in this world that one may stumble upon are not that rare, in all honesty. What you may find one day, you will probably find the next. Also, brooding over the unchangable past is never healthy, as a wise man once said.
By following those two crucial pointers and being cautious in the future, you can avoid repeating history and look forward to the future, whatever it may bring. As for my tale, well…shortly after, the person was eliminated from the world by the guardians who seldom make themselves known to us, but are ever-vigilant in the world.
Oh, and if there are other people from the world of Bera that wish to make themselves known to me, just tell me. It’s always good to make new friends while travelling.
very, very very, VERY well said
i totally agree

dude nice vocab good topic. good job! =D
Thanks a BILLION! I needed this sort of advice a LONG time ago. One of my friends had told HIS friend to totally wipe my account. It’s awful that people actually do this, because it causes people so much misery. Anyways, I had no one to look to, seeing as a trusted friend had quit MS. So, I decided to start a new character. It actually works pretty well, but now I don’t know whether to keep my hacked character or to erase him. Anyways, thanks a bunch again for the advice! Sorry about what happened though. Once again, it’s terrible that people will actually do that, after all the hard but rewarding training used to find mesos and equips. Anyways, for a third time thank you. MapleStory needs more honest players like you.
