so sad

One day, while the sun shines brightly and the wind blew softly, Boy A

met Girl B. They met, they talk, and they dated. Seeing that he was

happy with her, he asked her out, and they became boyfriend and

girlfriend.

Hours turn to days, days turn to weeks, and weeks turn to months. After

a few months of being together, she asked him if he loves her. He told

her that they were only fourteen and fifteen, how would they know what

love is like?

She became mad, and walked away from him. He raced after her, took her

hand, and placed at it on his heart, and said, “See these two rings on

my necklace? The day I know what love is, I’ll give you one of these

rings, and you’ll get your answer.”

Satisfied, she smiled at him and gave him a kiss. Again, hours to turn

days, days turn to weeks, and weeks turn to months.

On their 6th months anniversary, she asked him the question again if he

loves her or not. Again, he told her that he doesn’t know. Again, she

got mad at him and walked away. Again, he raced after her, grabbed her

hand, and placed it at his heart. He said, “The day I know what love

is, is the day I’ll give you one of these rings.”

Satisfy, she smiled and kissed him. Again, hours turn to days, and days

to week, and weeks to month.

During their 1-year anniversary, they sat together overlooking the

city. The stars twinkled in the heaven, and she gently placed her head

on his shoulder as they talked about random things. He turned to her,

smiled, and kissed her. When she asked him why, he only shook his head,

reach behind his back, and unlocked his necklace. As he began to glide

the ring from the necklace, she stopped him, choked back her tears, and

said, “I’m leaving.”

At first, he thought she meant going home, but she shook her head, and

while the tears sprinkled from her eyes, told him that she was going to

move. When asked where, she said she couldn’t tell him. When asked why,

she said because it’ll hurt too much. He was confused. He asked her, it

doesn’t matter if she’s moving or not, they can still be together. She

told him that he was moving too, and where she was moving, they cannot

be together.

Distress, he shook his head in disbelief. She took the ring, put it

around his necklace once again, and put it around his neck, and kissed

him. She then whispered that they were still too young, and did not

know what love was. She told him that they shouldn’t be together,

because that would only hold each other back from exploring what’s out

in the world.

When he told her that he doesn’t want to explore, that all he wanted

was her. She smiled, and told him that while she’s gone, she wants him

to find out what love is. So then what she returns, he can tell her

what it is, and she can tell him her version. He asked her when will

that be, and she told him tomorrow’s too far in the future to tell. He

wondered if he should wait or not, and she told him no. She told him to

move on, and find another girl, and find more girls, until he is able

to find that one girl.

“What will I do when I find her?”

“You’ll know when you do.”

“What about you?”

“I’ll move on myself, and find another guy, and find more guys, until

I’m able to find that one guy.”

“And do what?”

“I’ll know then.”

“What if we aren’t able to find that other person?”

“If then, then we’ll know that we are meant to be together.”

He then asked her if this is the end. She smiled, kissed him again, and

said no, it is only the beginning.

She then moved away, and so did he. After their breakup, he was hurt so

bad. He kept to himself in his new home, and made no new friends. But,

time passes, and thanks to his new friends, he was able to ignore the

pain. When he felt that he has gotten over her, he made his only

promise, which was “Never Again”.

Because they did not exchange contacts, they had no way to talk to one

another. Time passes, and soon memories of her began to fade from his

mind as new people came into his life.

And so he waits. Waiting until the day when he finds out what love is.

And then…his necklace wouldn’t be so heavy anymore…But he remembers

promising himself to
…. Never again…

And so it continues…

In the midst of his junior year, Boy A was driving one day. On the

dashboard of his white car was a picture of the girl he thought he

loved. The car ran over a speedbump, and the picture flew from its

holder and down at the boy’s feet. He reached down to pick it up, but

when he couldn’t find it, he took his eyes off the road to see if he

could find it.

The lights turned red, and there was a collision. The boy was put into

the emergency room, and slept for 3 days before finally waking up.

Luckily, nothing was damaged, except for a small memory portion of his

brain. Since it was so small, the doctor dismissed it as nothing.

The boy went to look at his car, and saw the wreck. His entire car was

totaled. He was lucky to be alive. As he was walking around the car, he

noticed a picture of a girl below the steering wheel. He looked at it,

but didn’t remember who she was. Thinking that perhaps it came from the

other car that hit him, he crumbled it up and threw it away.

The final piece…

Hours turn to days, days into week, and weeks became months. 6 months

after the car accident, Boy A was doing his homework when he received

an unidentified call on his cell phone. He picked up, and said hello,

but it was silent on the other end. Thinking nothing of it, he hung up

and returned to his homework.

The phone rang again, and again, the boy picked up, and heard nothing

but silence. He hung up. The phone rang again after a few minutes for

the third time. Irritated, he picked up the phone and began screaming

into it in an angry tone. Just as he hung up the phone a soft voice

spoke, but it was too late as he hung up.

A few days later, he went with his dad to the airport to pick up his

mom, who had just returned from visiting their homeland. While waiting,

he decided to walk around the international airport. As he walked, he

began looking at the people around him, and failed to notice the person

in front of him.

The two collided, and the person dropped her belonging. Apologizing, he

reached down and picked up the items and gave it back to the girl as

the two looked at each other’s in the eyes. It was Girl B.

He smiled, said he was sorry, and began walking again. The girl stood

still, and didn’t even notice him walking away. After a while, she

turned around and shouted out his name. Hearing his name, he turned

around to see the girl staring at him. Surprised that the girl knew his

name, he walked back.

“Hey, were you calling at me?” he said.

She only nodded, her lips quivering.

“How’d you know my name? Who are you?” he asked.

Her eyes became wet with tears as she uttered, “You…don’t know who I

am?”

“No, I don’t think I’ve met you before. Have we met before? I don’t

think so. If we had, I would have remember, but you don’t look familiar

at all.”

Tears streamed down her face as her eyes enlarge, “It’s me. It’s ‘…’.

How…how could you have forgotten…it’s only been…some odd years.

He shook his head and replied, ” Umm, no, I don’t remember anything.

Maybe we might have met in the past, but you see, a few months back, I

had an accident, and I guess a few of my memory got erased.”

“You’re not playing a joke on me have you? For the past 2 years, while

living oversea, I’ve dated a lot of guys, but…none of them could

match up to you, and every day that pass I prayed that I would be a day

closer to coming back to the states, and back to you. I had finally

managed to track down your phone number a few days ago…but I…I

couldn’t say anything when you picked up. And now…by a stroke of

luck, I’d managed to meet you at the airport…and you’re playing this

cruel joke on me!” she began crying as she ran up to him and began

hitting him on the chest.

Confused, he didn’t know what to do except to let her. After a while,

he pushed her back and told her that it isn’t a joke, and that he’s

sorry for perhaps forgetting about her, but he indeed does not know who

she is.

As she pulled back, her fingers caught a hold of his necklace and

pulled it out from under his shirt.

Her eyes widened when she saw that there was only one ring hanging from

it.

“You…you’re only wearing one ring…What…what happened to the other

ring? You used to have two…”

Surprised, he exclaimed, “Wow, how’d you know I used to have two rings

on my necklace? Yeah, I used to have two, but I gave one of it away. I

remember someone telling me and me telling someone in the past that

I’ll give away the ring when I find out what love is, and so, I did.”

He flashed his smile.

Hearing his dad calling his name, he said, “Hey, that’s my dad. Guess

it’s time for me to leave. I have to go. It was nice meeting you.

Perhaps I can talk to you later? And you can tell me who you were in my

past life? Okay? Bye!” and so he ran away.

She stood there, tears rolling down her eyes, as she called out his

name…

“… Why…”

The Epilogue

Hours turn to days, and days into a week. A few weeks later after the

meeting at the airport, Boy B was walking with one of his close guy

friend from back where he used to live and his girlfriend in the mall

as they shopped.

As Boy A walked, he carelessly took his eyes away from in front as he

scanned the store to bump into a person standing in front of him. The

person dropped their belongings. His friends looked at him as he

embarrassingly reached down and picked up the bags. The person in front

of him turned around. It was Girl B.

“Hey! It’s you. Wow, this is the second time I’ve bumped into you. What

are you doing here?” he exclaimed.

“I’m here shopping for a present for my mom. Mother’s day is coming

up.” She replied.

“Hmm, it is huh? Oh, let me introduce you to my friends. This is my

girlfriend, ” … “, my friend, “…. “. Everyone, this is “…. “.

The Guy Friend reached forward and gave Girl B a big bear hug, saying

how long it has been seen they’ve seen one another.

“You guys know each other?” Boy A asked.

Surprised, the Guy Friend said, “…. Do we know each other? Don’t you

remember? When– “

Before he could continue more, Girl B stopped him and said, “He was ex

-boyfriend good guy friend. It’s just been a while since I’ve seen

him.”

Her eyes twinkled when she saw the one ring around Boy A’s neck, and

the one ring around the other girl’s neck. Just as Boy A was about to

speak, his girlfriend dragged him into a woman’s store. His close guy

friend told them he’ll catch up.

” -…. -, what was that all about?” The Guy Friend asked.

“He doesn’t remember.” Girl B said.
“He doesn’t remember? You mean, he doesn’t remember you? And what he

had with you?”

“No.”

“that’s impossible. That kid went into a mid-depression after you left.

There’s no way he could have forgotten about you…unless…the

accident!”

“Yeah.”

“You’re not going to tell him?” The two looked at Boy A making fun of

his girlfriend.

“No. He seems happy right now. I don’t want to bring up a past that’s

dead. I won’t be here for long. I’m only here for another few days to

visit my mom, and then I’ll be heading back. Promise me you won’t tell

him about our past…” she said.

The guy friend kept silent, and said, “Here, take this,” the Guy Friend

took out a piece of paper folded with Girl B name on it.

“What is it?”

“He wrote it for you. He gave it to me after he was able to move on.

And I’ve kept it inside my wallet ever since. He told me to keep it,

because he might lose it.”

Girl B opened the piece of paper, and in it…was a poem…tears ran

down her face as she read the poem and the short letter afterward.

Without saying anything, she picked up her bags and ran away. Boy A

noticed Girl B running away crying, and walked back to his friend.

“Hey, what’d you do? Did you try to hit on her or something? And failed

and made her cry instead?” Boy A joked.

“No. It’s nothing. Hey, -…-, let’s go to that place in a few days

yeah? I want to tell you something,” the Guy Friend said.

“Where?”

“Where we used to go to a few years back. Where you used to take

her…. Heaven.”

A few days later, on the day of his birthday, Guy A drove up to a hill

overlooking the city with his Guy Friend. The two had their guy talk.

And then, the Guy Friend said, “You know that girl at the mall? – …

-“?

“Oh, the girl that you tried to hit on and made her cry? Yeah, what

about her?” Boy A replied.

After a big sigh, the Guy Friend said, “I know this is wrong…but I

can’t. -…. -. You used to date that girl. In fact, you two went out.

On the morning of your 1-year anniversary, you told me that you love

her, and at night, you’ll give her one of the rings around your

necklace. You took her here that night, to Heaven.”

And so, the Guy Friend told Boy A everything. From the day the two met,

to their painful breakup. And everything that happened in between.

Everything that happened between Boy A and Girl B, everything that Boy

A had forgotten after his accident.

The Guy Friend then took out a gift-wrapped box from his pocket and

gave it to Boy A.

“She gave it to me to give it to you this afternoon. It’s your birthday

present.”

Boy A opened it, and saw a big white feather inside the box. “Hah, she

stills remember your obsession with angels,” the Guy Friend joked.

Boy A was distressed. He couldn’t believe what he had just heard. His

hands were shaking. Hairs on body began standing up.

“Her flight leaves in an hour or so. I don’t know how long it’ll take

to get to the airport. What you do now is entirely up to you. But…if

you don’t love her, then don’t go. It’ll just make things harder. You

can just leave with the car. I can take a cab back home.”

Boy A stared down on his hands. One was holding his keys; the other was

holding the white feather. His minds raced as his heart beat a million

miles…

…….

Boy A jumped from the ground and started running toward the car.

“Idiot!” the Guy Friend called after him, ” do you even know what

flight she’s on?”

The Guy Friend told Boy A the flight, and the flight time, and the

terminal.

“Get out of here!”

Boy A raced his car through the traffic on his way toward the airport.

He has no idea what he’s going to say, or how he’s going to say it. The

only thing that’s driving him to drive is a gut feeling inside of him,

telling him to do it.

When he got to the airport, he raced through the terminals. He searched

endlessly for the terminal that his friend had told him. He scanned the

screen, and saw that the flight he was looking for was still there, but

it was only minutes away from boarding. Feeling glad he made it in

time, he began to search for the girl.

He shuffled through the crowds as he ran. Suddenly, his necklace got

caught on person and was ripped from its holder. The necklace fell

straight down while the ring that was on it fell on the ground and

began to roll. He quickly bent down to pick up the necklace and began

chasing after the ring when a gentle hand grabbed it from the ground.

He looked up and saw a girl.

It was his girlfriend.

“Hey! -…. – , what are you doing here? I thought you were with – …

-?” she asked.

” -…. -, I was, but…what are you doing here?”

“Oh, I’m here to see off my grandma. What are you doing here?” she said

as she handed took the necklace from him and placed the ring around it

and the necklace back around his neck. “You better be careful, don’t

want to lose this now do you?” she joked as she kissed him.

He quickly looked down at his watch to see the passing time. “Listen,

I’m looking for someone. I can’t talk right now. I’ll be back k?” And

so he ran off.

He finally came to the place where the flight was being board. His eyes

scanned the surrounding, and he saw her. Girl B was walking through the

door, but she was holding onto something. He tried to call out her

name, but the announcement interrupted him. She finally walked through

the door and dropped the crumbled piece of paper on the ground.

By the time he got there, she had already gone through, and when he

tried to rush through, he was quickly stopped by the airport security.

He was panicking. He didn’t know what to do, or what he was going to

do. Suddenly, he saw the crumbled piece of paper on the ground. He bent

down, picked it up, and saw what it was. On the paper it said that it

was by him, and it was for Girl B. It was entitled, “Waiting.”

Walking to heaven, I tripped along the way

Time passes by without waiting

Deep inside my feelings are fighting.

Every moment with you I am happy

Never an end I wish for our story…

As the sky rain tears onto the land

Deep inside my heart I held onto your hand.

We ran so fast, and walked so far…

On angel’s wings you left me for the stars.

I stood below, waiting for you.

Waiting for the day when my dream would come true.

Waiting in the field of flower and bees

So when you come back, you’ll find me…

Seasons come and go without saying why

Still high above me you continue to fly

With every passing moment I continue to die

Without having you right by my side

Why must God torture me endlessly?

When he knows I’m not even happy

Tears are like gentle teardrops on a starry night

To love you less is not a fight

To miss you more is but a knife

Forever cutting away at my life.

The tingly sensation that is inside,

The feelings that I cannot deny,

Why did time have to pass by?

And left me standing so dry?

The smile that spread across your face,

Took my breath away without a trace.

The days that we shared together

Will always be in my heart forever.

I remember being really happy,

Whenever you were write here with me.

We laughed so hard, and smiled so wide,

My breath had stopped when I saw cry.

These eyes can only see for so long,

Until my last image of you is gone…

But until that day arrives

Smile, and know… we’re still alive.

Walking to heaven, I tripped along the way

He ran to the window, and looked out. Down below, he could see her

walking to the airplane. He began banging hard on the glass, but it

seemed she didn’t hear it. The security guards came and stopped him.

And he shouted out at the top of his lung as they escorted him away.

“I don’t know who you are! I don’t know what we’ve had! But…I’m

willing to find out!” He was escorted to the police. His girlfriend saw

him, and stayed by his side. The airplane left. And the one ring

dangled around his neck as he tripped, and hit his head on the

ground…
and then…
He remembered…
