Anyway, I signed on my ranger for the first time in a few months. My buddy list was empty and I was guildless, so I tracked people until Hariyama’s name popped up. Tracking him with a mule, I found out that he’d started over, deleting his bandit to make a hunter. Heh, good on him.

I whispered Foofar1829 to ask what had happened to our old guild; he welcomed me back and told me it had disbanded. Foo invited me to the guild he was in, Unity, led by LordPyrus of Broa. [1]

Since I had missed version patches 0.38 and 0.39, I felt like visiting the ‘Zipangu’ area.

Walking around in Perion, I got jumped by some travel agency lady who started this aggressive sales pitch about experiencing “new cultures” and reducing “travel expenses” and junk. [2] Really impressive stuff, even if it was a bit intimidating. When we got down to discussing the price, she laid out the basic “Economy” travel plan at a cost of 3,000 mesos.

ONLY 3,000 mesos?! I whipped out my wallet and wrote her a cheque.

The trip sucked; my personal transporter device didn’t have any working lights.

When I got there, the first things I saw were the beautiful cherry tree blossoms. No, wait, that’s a lie. First I saw the grass, then a big red gate, a road sign, someone asking for gold for the trip back, a bottle of water (I was thirsty), my keyboard, a tree trunk, then the cherry blossoms.

They were nice. Pinkish.

Supposedly, Zipangu culture consists of eating a lot of food from bowls. I passed four or five roadside stalls and a group of kids crowded around a gumball dispenser sort of machine. Up a pair of earthy steps, I came upon a woman sweeping the same bit of stone over and over again. As I approached her, she muttered something about foxes and told me to go kill animals.

Very well. To learn more about Zipangu culture, I climbed a fungus covered tree.

A swarm of birds appeared, carrying me off to the base of a mountain. Lightly dusting blue feathers off of my hat, I continued forward; when I met a horde of hovering ghosts, I shot at them just to make sure. The ghosts were very persistent and unforgiving, chasing me across a cold, hard expanse of ground. [3]

As I raced across the foggy cemetery, my foot caught on a root and I tripped into a pit of fiery bulldogs.

Those birds were hard to mob, you know. I couldn’t strafe them, because I wanted them alive. Using a weak mob skill like arrow rain or inferno would still kill about a third of them every time. If I tried hitting them with my bow, mortal blow would go off. Tch.

The ghosts were much easier to mob, since they were level 60.

I didn’t find the WanWan Spa of Hell the first time I went through, though I thought that section of ground looked suspicious. According to Hidden-street, I also hadn’t found the portal to Showa Town, but it turned out that the portal to Showa Town didn’t exist, so that was okay.

A boat ride to Ossyria and I was soon killing zombies. I remembered having lent out a red whip a few months back, so I had it returned.
