Maple Mysteries [2]

[The Curse of the Dragon]

“Done! Your turn.”
“Hm. You bought most of the Inns! How will I win? >.<”
“Too bad.”
“It’s just so boring without mysteries to solve…”
“Hey, we are playing now. Don’t think about that. Little brother.”
“HEY!! NEVER CALL ME LITTLE BROTHER!!”

I laughed as Plaren chased after me, swinging his Evil Wings angrily. I accidentaly stumbled over the game we were playing, MaplePoly.

*Oof*

“HAHA!! Got you down!”

“Why.. When I get you-“

“Hey, you two monkeys! Stop it! We have a visitor!”

We both looked up at our mother, who had a girl behind her. She was clinging to my mothers Ice Jeans tightly.

“Why is she so… dirty?” I blurted out as I can’t resist asking that question.

She blushed a deep red when I said that. My mother gave me a Don’t-be-such-a-busybody look.

“Plaren, will you mind to get the girl a drink? Get the hot choclate I made.”

Plaren got up and trotted to the kitchen. My mother whispered something in her ear and she looked at me. I shrugged and went back to keeping the MaplePoly set.

Plaren came back with a cup of Hot Choclate and the girl drank the whole thing down in a few gulps. Oh boy. She must be so cold that she could drink it so fast.

My mother dragged us both to the corner and told us why she brought her here.

“She was freezing out in those streets. And there are Bandits and drunken people all around those unsafe streets. I must bring her back. Hope you understand what I mean.”

Now, that’s my mother. Always ready to give everything she had to help people she pitied. Maybe it’s her kindness that gave us so much money.

“Try to make her feel comfortable here. She looks… Quite uneasy.”

Plaren glanced at me, and I shrugged again. Being nice to a girl? That’s like cutting off my hand! But.. Well… For a while won’t hurt me… Right?

Plaren followed me slowly and I walked to the girl.

“What’s your name?” I asked sharply.
“Lydia.” Lydia answered timidly.
“Hey, c’mon. relax a little. We are not going to eat you right?” Plaren said cheerfully, hoping to cheer her up.

For the first time, Lydia smiled.

“But we need to know you better. Where are you from?” I asked curiously.
“Curiousity kills the cat” Was the sharp answer back from her.

“What’s so secretive about where you’re from?” Quipped Plaren.

She looked around immediately. Than she looked at us seriously. “Any place with no windows?”
“The Basement!” Shouted Plaren immediately.

She nodded and wanted us to show her there. We walk through some doorways before coming to a staircase. We slowly descended and reached the Basement.

“Well. I’m from a village…” She began and suddenly shivered.

All of a sudden, thunder roared from outside and rain came pouring down.

“That’s weird.. A minute ago the sky was absoloutely clear. I mean you can’t see very well in the night, but there were no clouds. I’m positive…” Wondered Plaren aloud.

THE CURSE OF THE DRAGON SHALL STRIKE THOSE WHO BETRAYS THE VILLAGE DRAGON. BEWARE!! DO NOT INTEND TO DISCLOSE THIS MATTER TO ANYONE. OR ELSE YOU WILL PAY.DEARLY.AND WITH YOUR LIFE.

A voice boomed through the basement and Lydia immediately gripped my hand tightly. Plaren and I was shocked. “What the hell was that?” I asked and turned to Lydia. At that time, I than found out that Lydia was as white as sheet. She was shivering and had turned icy cold. I glanced sharply at Plaren.

Looks like we found a mystery.
