Mistrust – [Chap.9]

My heartbeat was bursting through my chest. I couldn’t breathe. I could feel the smooth handle of my evil wings against me, calling, “Don’t let me go!” I stared into Akito’s handsome face. If I was going to die right now, at least I would be staring at something beautifully vicious.

The dagger seeped deeper into my neck. I could feel the blood running down the sides of my neck. I closed my eyes. A slow, painful death was what I always dreamed of. I thought about Garrett. What would he say if he saw this? Garrett. . . I love you.

The angelic betrayal was suddenly whipped away. I opened my eyes and looked into the snow. A tobi was tangled in the sharp edges of the dagger. “Garrett!” I mumbled.

“YOU B*STARD! WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO KAEDE?” Garrett wildly threw tobis with speed I had never thought could be achieved, even with maxed haste. I watched the blur of red and black as he threw stars nonstop at Akito. The pain overtook me, and I drifted off into a deep sleep, falling to the sounds of Akito screaming.

ONE MONTH LATER.

‘Kaede. Wake up. Please.’ Garrett hovered over me and prayed. I had been asleep for about a month. I could faintly hear everything going on but I couldn’t see anything, and I felt like I was in a trance. . .

“Kaede. . . I’ll never forgive myself if you don’t wake up. Why the hell did I leave you all alone?!” He said aloud, slamming his fists on the bedside table.

I awoke with a start, being scared by the noise. My eyes shot open and I gasped for breath. “Garrett?” I asked into the room.

Garrett couldn’t believe his ears. “KAEDE YOU’RE ALRIGHT!” He hugged me and fell on top of the hospital bed.
“Garrett, you’re squishing me!” I laughed, and squeezed him back. My body felt numb. “Ugh. . . how long have I been asleep?”

He sighed and stroked my pale face. “About a month. Everyone was so worried.”

Then I remembered everything. “Akito!” I yelled out, trying to sit up in bed. But I couldn’t move.

Garrett gently eased me back down. “Your back is out. Winnie is still fixing it, so don’t move. And Akito is dead. I killed him.” He opened his tobi pouch and there was a blood-stained star, its black surface sleek with dried blood. I closed my eyes and laid back down.

“I just want to rest,” I told Garrett, and held his hand. I fell asleep again, my hand in his.

Garrett got up after my grip had loosened. He kissed my hand and picked up my communicator. “Stephen? Kaede’s alright. …sure, I’ll pass it on. But don’t you dare try to do it yourself, bro.” He ended the call and slowly walked toward my bed. He kissed my cheek. “That’s from Stephen.”

I have attatched a picture of the ‘Mistrust’ cast 😀
