Lunar Chronicles Episode I

In the universe, many creatures inhabit the planets that noone on Earth has ever seen. Many of these creatures are glad the way they live, but some of them hate it. On the planet of Sarona the inhabitants hate the way they live, for one reason and one reason only. The Sun always shines, not giving the inhabitants to get a chance of Darkness. They seeked a new way for them to live and thus, they left the planet they so detested. For years the Saronin traveled the vast universe, collecting knowledge and even built machines to stop the Sun from shining at certain areas. For a period of time they started to lose resources and air- until they found Earth. A perfect planet for them to try their new technology.

That was over several decades ago. The Saronin conquered Earth and built their main base at a land that we know as Maple Story. Our tale shall begin. . .

Episode I- The Darkness in Kerning City

Daniel sat on a stool, listening to the local civilians of Kerning City chatter in the bar. He glanced at his watch before glancing back out the window. It was still dark even though it was just two in the morning. He never felt tired in the dark. The dark had made him into what he is today- a thirteen year old Dark Knight trained to use Dark Swords. Few Dark Knights have mastered using Dark Swords and still use the skills of Spearmen and Dragon Knights. Only three types of Dark Swords exist in the world and some may even abuse the Dark Swords’ power. One type of Dark Swords are the Doombringers which are nove classed Dark Swords. Daniel wields the Doombringer Dark Sword.

Daniel wore mostly dark clothing, to help blend in with the Darkness. The only things that didn’t help blend him in was his hair, goggles, and shirt but that didn’t stop him from achieving his objectives. Someone came down the stairs of the Fusion Bar, a local Saronin officer had walked into the bar, no doubt looking for a wanted man. He drank the rest of his water before getting out of his seat. He placed a few mesos on the counter for the bartender and walked casually toward the stairs with his Doombringer sheathed on his back. The officer stopped him before he can get up the stairs.

“Hey kid,” the officer started, “what are you doing here.”
“Nothing much officer,” Daniel replied without looking at him.
“Did you drink anything?”
“Only some water officer. I must be going so if you can let go of my jacket. . .”

Someone threw a chair at the wall and it seemed a fight had started. The officer was distracted at what had happened giving Daniel the opening he needed. He kicked the officer in the back with the sole of his boot and climbed quickly up the stairs. He could’ve sworn that the officer was shouting after him but he didn’t have the time. It was raining out when the entered the street of Kerning. He turned and dashed toward the tower that had the response antenna that caused the darkness at Kerning.

At the gate that led to the tower was his old buddy Alex. She wore mostly pink and had purple hair- not a good look for infiltrating which is what she’s best in. She was two years older than he was but that didn’t matter, they were good partners.
“What took you so long Daniel?” she asked.
“Got caught in a fight,” he replied.
“Cop?”
“Pretty much. What’s the news?”
“Well we have to kill a bunch of guards, monsters, and the big boss thing that protects the power system. So best play it safe to just infiltrate and-“
“I just needed to know the first part Alex.”

Daniel unsheathed his Doombringer and infused it with his dark powers. He swung at the gate and bars clattered onto the ground. Alex was annoyed.
“When are you going to stop with this selfish attitude of yours and listen to my plans?”
“Lets see who can get to the power core first. Most of the reward will go to the winner.”
“Again? Fine. I always win anyways.”

He waited for Alex to disappear to who-knows-where before strolling into the courtyard. This is where the fun begins.

“So Daniel and Alex has infiltrated the Tower of the West?”
“Yeah Boss. Alex is sneaking about while Daniel, well just walks straight in there.”

The Boss scratched the back of his head.
“Same as ever,” he muttered.
“Uh Boss, who is Daniel?”
“Well as you know Daniel is a Dark Knight that wields a legendary Dark Sword, the Dark Doombringer.”
“What’s the difference?”
“In design, not much but in power you would rather wield a Dark Doombringer than a normal one.”
“Is it that powerful?”
“Let’s just say if you wielded a normal Doombringer while fighting a hundred Zakums, you’ll be hoping you had the Dark version.” The Boss paused for a second. “But onto your real question. Who is Daniel? Well he’s our best man for these dangerous jobs.”

The Boss stood up from his chair and looked at the little light from the street shine through the small window.
“His parents died at a wild fire when he was three years old and lived on the streets of the dark. At the age of eight he went to Perion to learn the way of a Warrior. Dances with Balrog sensed a dark power in Daniel’s body, that he had legendary Dark Knight blood in him. For three years he was trained with swords and spears. When he had became a true Dark Knight, Dances with Balrog gave him the Dark Doombringer and sent him off to face the Zakum. . . Alone.”

“But shouldn’t he be dead?”
“No. Daniel survived by using the full power of a Dark Sword and killing the good parts of his emotions. All he feels now is selfishness, hate, anger, and a thirst for power. He manages to ge kind occasionally, but he forces himself. His Dark Knight blood is pure and so he must be like all Pure Dark Knights of past years.”

The rebel took the info in carefully, thinking on what he would say next.
“So in other words he’s our best weapon?” the rebel asked.
“Keep guessing, you’re close,” the Boss replied sitting back down.
“Nope, can’t think of anything else,” the rebel muttered, glancing at the right side of the room. The Boss chuckled.
“Daniel will be the hero that stops the never ending Darkness.”

Daniel sheathed his Doombringer and licked the blood off of his hand as he left the courtyard, bloodied with corpses. He lifted his cell phone to his ear.
“You in Alex?” he whispered.
“Yeah I’m in, the third floor too,” she replied. “You killed most of the guards and monsters down there yet?”
“Let’s just say that their blood was delicious.”
“Great. My path is much easier and- dang.”
“Alex what is it?”
“I’m caught in a conflict. Call you later-“

The line went dead. Daniel slapped his phone closed and slipped it back into his pocket. He didn’t have time to worry about Alex. All he wanted was to destroy the tower and finish his objective. That was all Pure Dark Knights wanted, aside from their objectives. Destruction.

  1. Too lazy to edit the story. Anyways I could’ve made it longer but I didn’t because I was lazy.
