Maple Academy And The Left Leg

Maple Academy & The Left Leg
Prologue: The First Day

Date: August 27, 2007
Time: 07:59

He rolled over, punching his pillow and mumbling. His alarm blared, BEEP BEEP BEEP! He shut it off and rolled over onto his feet. The first day of school… He stumbled over to his closet wiping sleep from his eyes. The closet doors opened and he grabbed his favorite clothes, a red undershirt with a black hoody overtop and green military pants. His black shoes had red soles, he slipped a hat on his bright blonde hair, trapping it on the top of his head.

He looked at the alarm clock, 8:10. With a bounce, his feet exploded in fire and we shot out the door and down the stairs, tripping and falling down the last fleet.
“Careful Jason!” his mother called, laughing and coming out of the kitchen with a tray of bacon.
“Lets eat! Its your first day” he jumped onto his feet and walked to the table and grabbed a piece of bacon. He walked by his chair and towards the front door,
“Where are you going, Jason?” His mother called from the next room.

“To find Colle-”
“NO!” his mother shouted, a force field sending him rocketing backwards into the dining room. He landed with a thud, his forehead aching.
“That hurt…” he mumbled, pushing himself up to look at his mother.
“Why can’t I go get Colleen?”
“Because, you know I don’t approve of that girl” she said, he knew what would happen if he asked too many questions. He got up and bit into his bacon.

“Well, I got to get to the bus, see ya later” He ran to the door before his mom could try to fix his hair or take of his hoody. He ran down the porch steps and out into the street, looking around for any cars or people. Ready…set…GO! He rocketed forward, fire sprouted from his shoes and he was sent plummeting down the street. BANG! He fell onto his back, his forehead aching with pain.
“Hey, are you oka- JASON!” Colleen threw her arms around him. She wore a blue hoody with a black undershirt and black pants. Her straight red hair was covered in a red maple leaf hat.

“Hey Colleen, long time no see” They stood up and walked to the bus stop.
“So what’s your power, Jason? Or did I just see it?”
“Nah, that was just these shoes my dad got me from San Diego, my real power is” he leaned in closer,
“Sonic blasts” he whispered. She smiled,
“Cool! Mine is…” she leaned closer and whispered,
“Mind reading” we both smiled, thinking the same thing.

A yellow bus appeared at the bus stop, coming to a halt and opening its doors. A couple of twelve-year old kids stepped in, whispering excitedly. Colleen and Jason stepped onto the bus, looking for any friends.
“Hey Jason my man!” Jason looked and saw the blood-red eyes of Rey Stark, his Red China set still on his body. Strapped onto his belt was a Golden River. Everybody suspected that its blade had blood marks etched on it. On Rey’s head stood a Dark Identity, a sign of his dad.

“Hey Rey, w’sup man?” Jason asked, sitting down beside him.
“Nothing, I just found my power on the first day back from that loser school” he chuckled, his low voice booming.
“So what I-”
“Fire” he said, cutting me off.
“Fire?”
“Fire” He looked out the window, I could’ve sworn his nostrils were on fire.

“So you and Colleen, you know, going good?” He asked, chuckling at his humorless joke.
“We’re friend, dude”
“Ahhh yes, of course you are, now, where is Niel? That idiot said he’ll be here before we got to the last bus stop…Probably teleported to the wrong bus stop” he muttered, shaking his head. There was a loud pop as Niel teleported right onto Jason’s lap.

“Oww!” He pushed him off, Niel landed on the ground with a thud.
“Sorry mate, didn’t know you were there” Rey howled with laughter at his twins stupidity.
“Shut it, Rey” Niel said, his black hair bobbing up and down. His body was covered in an archers suit, completed with a black dragon-shaped bow on his back.
“Sorry, teleported to the wrong bus stop. A falcon helped me get back to the right one, but the bus had gone so I just teleported onto it. I didn’t know I could do that…” Jason ignored him as he went on about falcons and sparrow’s natural habitats. He looked out the window and gasped, they were on a broken railroad track.

“Why isn’t it bumpy?” he asked,
“That’s because its an ancient railroad” said a misty voice behind them. They all spun around, looking into the face of Larissa Lakeon, the metamorphism. Today her hair was a bright shade of blue. She wore a cowgirl top with cowgirl pants and shoes.
“What’s that in your hand, Lari?” Colleen asked, pointing at a red button with two golden handles coming out of it.
“Oh its…nothing” she said, turning away and putting it in her backpack.
“Don’t even try, Colleen, I’ve practiced shields over the summer. I know how to block you”

“Welcome to… Maple Academy!” the driver shouted back at us all, the door to the bus opening. Everybody jumped to their feet, anxious for their first day. Colleen got to the door first, then Rey, then Niel, then Lari, then Jason. He blinked in the sunlight. The Academy was huge! Its outlines shimmered in gold and the plating in silver. The doors were pure glass along with the windows. Ancient markings marked the silver-plated walls.

In the school grounds, hundreds of students trained, used and played with their powers. A girl shot an ice bolt at another who shot it back with a force field. Another two men punched and kicked each other in mid-air. A teacher-looking man with a clipboard walked around the duelers, giving tips and sometimes helping those in need.
“Its amazing… Its…”
“Maple Academy!” shouted an older looking lady walking towards them.

“Welcome, newcomers, to our school!” she shouted.
“Here you learn how to use, control and master your powers. I will have NO attacking in the school halls or lavatories. Only those who are in dueling club are allowed to duel within the camp grounds. The school grounds are that tree” she pointed at a huge tree in the distance,
“And that tree” she pointed to another on the other side the grounds.

“The back is also forbidden to students, so if you would just follow me and we’ll get your timetables” she spun around, turning into a golden-sphere of light. Doing a 360 it spun around and started towards the gates. The new students followed her, casting nervous and excited glances at the duelers and powers of the older kids.

This was going to be a year like no other.
