Well, I belive “1337” is technically, translated into English, “leet”. “Leet” is a misspelling of “lite”, which is “elite” without the “e”. Why they took away the “e’, I have no idea.
Related terms: 31337, bacically “elite”; 1337-speak(or 1337-sp34k, or leet-speak), which is what happens when letters are replaced with numbers. For example, “Hello everyone” in 1337=speak would be “H3110 3v3ry0n3”. Sometimes words are misspelled.
How I know this, I have no idea.
I bet 1337 speak’s history could be googled. It’s funny when people make fun of it.
And nice example, claw. But most ‘bad stories’ tend to drag on the torture a bit more. (No, I’m not suggesting anything.)
“Elite” and being “elite” was the term used for hackers on the interweb.

1337 speak is the use of a combination of chat speak (such as replacing “u” and “r”) and interjecting random numbers that resemble the letters.
