NORTHERN MARKETS
Episode 59+ Screw happy endings

9:05 AM [5:45 SEA Time]
Bob spun around, damn near crapping his pants; thinking that the hackers had him!
It was Commander Laini of the Justice Arrow.
“Oh crap!” the level 71 fighter breathed.
“Are you from the ground team?” Laini demanded.
“Yes, ma’am”
“Let’s go! This mission is a failure! The sin is dead, and so is everyone else!”
“What about the hackers?” Bob asked. He knew the J.A. was hell bent on destroying them and its a disgrace to just let them go, especially after all this bloodshed.
“Let them go! They want to go to the North anyway, and they will not be a threat anymore! We’ll be back to blow up the bridge!”
“Oh,” Bob answered, shivering in the cold. He had frostbites now and they started to hurt.
“They’re gone. Let’s go!” Laini said, shoving him along.
“Where we going?” he asked.
“The Calypso is 7 miles due west. We’re walking half way, then I’ll call them to pick us up!” read more

Sniper

SNIPER

It was a long cold November night. Kerning City lay in darkness, for the rather bright light of the full Moon cast
a pale light over the streets, buildings, and great snow covered Kankoku Mountain beyond. It was
the moon light reflecting from the snow that lit up the whole valley. The waters of the Janszoon River
sparkled in the moonlight. Around the quiet 7ung-Hwang district the heavy guns roared.
Scattered about the Azn-owned districts, machine guns, rifles and the hissing of magic broke the
silence of night, like the giant reptiles barking in the swamps.
The invading Justice Arrow and local resistance were waging civil war. read more

MapleSAP Special: Justice Arrow
Part 3: Put to Work

In the last issue of MapleSAP Special, Ross Kent and his team arrived in Henesys at the end of the day, noting
how happy most of the people were after work. Maria, a member of Kent’s team leads them to
her parents’ home, where they were let in.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Maria’s mother and father are surprised at their daughter’s return,
however, her mom
seems to be mad at her. On the other hand, Balo,
level 97 ranger, was happy to have us.
As we remove our shoes and coats at the door,
Maria’s mother grabs her by the arm and leads her to
one of the bedrooms in a rough manner.
Balo gives us a grand tour of the place.
The interior of the home is all unpainted wood.
A few pictures, and paintings hang on the walls.
There is no electricity, but mallowsparen*
crystals glow brighter than light bulbs and light up the whole
place. In the living room, there is no TV nor stereo. Instead,
a piano sits accross from a sofa and rocking chairs.
In the kitchen, the appliances look quite different than back home;
The fridge is built entirely out
of wood, and heat suction crystals keep everything inside cold.
A 19th century style fire powered stove
is situated in the corner of the kitchen on a patch of stone tiles,
and the smoke stack rises above to the roof.
Balo explains that filters on the roof collect most of
the waste matter in the smoke and must be cleaned daily.
The beds in the house are sack like mattresses stuffed with feathers,
cotton and other soft materials.
As we talk at the table in the dining room, two kids show up carrying baskets of laundry.
“Meet Joel and Wasco. They are our community servants assigned to our home.”
Balo explains.
Hank asks, “How did they get their job?”
“They’re young’uns from Kerning City.
Lots of kids leave the childrens’ reserve up there and end up in danger
pretty fast. Our men go up there and collect a
bunch of these loose runaway kids and bring them home.”
Balo dismisses the kids with a wave of his hand.
They leave us without saying a word.
“Now sir,” Hank interjects,
“Lots of kids go outside of the children’s reserve-“
“Then they are at the mercy of the vile
vermin that pluage the city! MapleWorld’s promising
young blood, almost put to waste!
They are preyed upon by rapists, pedofiles, hackers,
those damn Permanoobs that fornicate with the hackers,
and the rest of the scum that seeps in from
the North! We rescue these kids from the
evils of the city and bring them home and give them
a future in the Light!” Balo snarls strongly. Hank is taken aback.
“The children’s reserve up there is currupt!
They literally spoonfeed the kids and noobs to the scum!”
“Sorry I-“
“Now, you know, my boy!” Balo grunts, his big black beard shaking with
every word.
“Everyone who comes to Henny thinks of it as slavery,
well let me tell you something! These kids’ minds
are plagued, so we have ways of clensing them,
be it harsh discipline and labor. It runs the mischief
out of them, and gives them a good sense of
value! Any kid who comes in here is put to work and given
to a home where he will serve his hosts.
They go to church to learn the ways and teachings of the
Universal Migrator and his Lord.
Then, when they are straightened out, we put them through the test
to see if they can become bowmen, if not, they will stay and serve Henesys.
The bereaucrats
in Orbis have been calling it slavery for years,
simply to try and shut us down.”
Suddenly there is a sharp rap on the door,
and Balo goes to answer. Six fearsome looking rangers
stand outside, fully armed.
“Bon-soir, Balo Windfeather.
We have a call from your wife saying you have
guests from out of town.
We’re under orders to escort them to the base.”
Balo nods with obedience.
“Yes, sir,” and he allows the rangers in. They take the manner
of police seeking arrest. The lead ranger,
wearing a maro cap looks at me. “You are under detainment!
You will come with us immediately!”
Before we can respond, the Rangers grabb me,
Hank, and Rannbo and clap us in cuffs and lead us out-
holding us by the arms in a bone crunching grip.
Maria’s mother comes out, shoving her towards one of the rangers.
“Take this one too! She is just
as filthy and despicable!”
Maria tries not to cry as her hands are also cuffed. We are taken
to a waiting truck and shoved in the back.
Two rangers start throwing us in by grabbing Maria and lifting her
by her arms and throwing her into the
back of the wood truck. read more

ORBIS DECLARES WAR IN EL NATH
ORBIS–
On Wednesday, Aug 1, Maple President Jimro313 signed a declaration of war contract, allowing
GMs and the Maple Peace Corps to fully engage in the fight against the zombie threat.
Since January, the zombie population exploded and the coolies expanded their turf beyond
the Dead Mine area.
Coolie attacks began in the Nath Village area beginning in late July. So far 24 attacks have been documented
with a death toll of 14 people.
The latest assault occured Monday night when a pack of 30 Coolies entered the southern part of the village
and ambushed villagers during a local BBQ. Among the dead was Orbis’ domestic ambassador Javis Pinoy.
According to witnesses, it became a free-for-all compdown for the zombies until the town’s local defense volunteers
could mobilize and fight off the invaders.
Mr. Pinoy was taken to the local medical center where he died from blood loss and poisoning.
In response to the latest attack, Orbis declared war on the Coolies and the Maple Peace Corps army is assembling
at El Nath in preparation for battle. A pre-war speech to the Southern Territories will be given
live on MPTV 20:00 Orbis time, 23:00 Ludi time, 16:00 Victoria Time.
An evacuation for the rural regions of El Nath is underway and housing arrangements are being made. read more

Episode 40 + The Bath House

That night, after Almony ordered Azure to be taken away, she was kept in a small guest room for an hour, until she was put to work by the staff people working. From 10pm to 2am, Azure was running around delivering supplies, food and tools to workers and the rich, high level privileged guests. She had to clean out the giant grimy bowl shaped tub, then placed the herb tag into the machine that poured the hot water in. She and the lady working with her had it cleaned and filled just in time for this big fat sumo business man from Zipangu. the guy was so big when he sat, the water over flowed, spilling all over the floor. Azure almost got slapped by the bathhouse vice master when she accidentally said that guys should lose some weight.
At two in the morning, Azure was taken with all the Northern kids who could only speak Singlish and tasked with kitchen duty. Even though it was half cleaned it took at least 90 minutes to fully clean the whole kitchen. read more

Episode 39+ Enter the Roikans

Municipal Hall, Henesys
Peter Jalonska, over 6 feet tall, long silver hair tied back, sleek, but mean looking face, leaned forward and placed his big hands on Mayor Screw’s desk and looked the little mayor in the eye. The Legendary Golden bow slung on his back gleamed in the light from the white crystal hanging from the ceiling. The other high level men stared at the mayor.
“And why should that be of your concern?” Jalonska demanded.
Mayor Screw produced a paper. “This was sent from Orbis last week- it says they sent some GMs to inspect the town in El Nath, and the town isn’t even threatened! This report said that the Yetis are in fact hanging out even further away from town than normal! And the wolves can’t even be found! As for Dead Mine, Zakum is getting his ass kicked by parties on a regular basis!”
“And the Equitas?” another bowman asked.
“Those fat bastards packed up and went down to Florina for the winter! I’m catching all the heat from Orbis for this! They want to know immediately where 2000 high level bowman are right now! They sent a guy to Riprey, but he says no one from the Justice Arrow is out there! How the hell am I supposed to deal with this!?”
“Don’t deal with it, Mayor Screw, FIX it! Now…um is not a good time for Orbis to be nosing in on us!” Jalonska said, his mustache puffing with every breath.
“That is NOT good enough!” Screw protested. “Orbis is threatening to raise taxes on us again, and this time it’s a 20% hike! That is at least 200K per household in Henesys! So I want you hot shot bowmen to deal with this problem now!” read more

HENESYS
Sunday November 19, 2007
6:30 PM

The winter’s first snowfall started in the afternoon and by sunset, almost all of Henesys Township was covered
in a thin blanket of snow.
Bob spent the day working in the barns in the Livestock Zone, an area 7 km north of Henesys. He was helping the other
lowly working noobs with loading the magic powered trucks with crates of smoked pig and mushroom meat.
by now the last truck was loaded. Bob leaned against the side of the wooden truck and looked around. The barn was built out of hard cherry wood. Giant bright crystal lights hung from the ceiling and the sounds of pigs grunting and the hum of the gas powered electric generator. One side of the barn was a massive pig pen holding at least 2000 pigs,
the other was divided into storage rooms. At the end were the bins and troughs holding food scraps and grains
for the pigs.
There was a small office building inside the barn too, right by the huge doors. The guys, dressed in 19th century type farmers/ worker clothes stood inside the office talking to one another.
Then the big guy, about 7 feet tall, huge black beard, wearing a green black plaid shirt and gray trousers came out.
He was nicknamed Bunyan for his sheer size and strength.
“Allright, in to the truck! We’re goin’ into town!” Bunyan bellowed.
The frightened little noobs climbed into the back seats of the cabin of the truck, Bob and Bunyan got in the front.
He fired up the power crystals which started spinning in the bottom, then the engine started.
Bunyan signaled for the other guys to pull the ropes, opening the giant doors. The doors were opened. Bunyan floored the gas and the truck roared as it came out of the barns into the blue twilight of post sunset. The storm had cleared revealing a gap in the clouds where the light from a green sky lighted up the flat plain snow covered fields.
The truck shook as it went over the icy gravel roads that criss crossed the giant fields.
20 minutes later, they were at the back entrance of the grand hall in downtown Henesys. The workers carried the boxes of meat to the kitchen where it would be either stored in a huge fridge run by a hired ice mage or to the kitchen where it would be chopped up and cooked or smoked.
Bob said nothing all afternoon since he had talked to Finkara. He realized the bowmen and their farmers looked down on non bowmen, especially the young noobs. These people ended up working if they stayed in Henesys too long. read more
