Aurora’s Redemption – Thirty-eight

¤ A Dangerous Weapon

‘What’s up?’ Jaysen peered along their line of vision, and found himself looking at a handsome young man with black hair, his shoulders broad and muscular under blue Adventurer Librarian robes. There was a queer light in his black eyes as he returned Silver’s gaze. ‘I must speak to you, Silver.’ His voice was pleading, as he strode up to the trio, blocking their path. read more

¤ Brandon

Silver relaxed as she let her feet guide her to her room. Having gone this way so many times in the past, she felt sure that she could make her way there now blindfolded. As she moved along the corridors, she recognised several familiar faces, most of them belonging to librarians and Adventurer Librarians that had been apprentices together with her. At her approach, however, most of them seemed to divert their gazes away; only a few openly met her eyes and returned her greetings. read more

¤ Epitome of Seriousness

A middle-aged man dressed in homespun grey was waiting in Grendel’s office. He wore his salt and pepper hair cropped closed to the skull, and looked up quickly with sharp brown eyes when the three entered the room.

‘Master Grendel.’ He stood up respectfully, his arms tucked into the wide sleeves of his robe. Then, seeing Silver beside Grendel, he nodded a little stiffly. ‘Good afternoon, Librarian Silver.’ read more

¤ Arrival in Ellinia

A foghorn bellowed as the ship floated into the harbour through the mists. While the ship docked, Silver emerged from the cabin to join the passengers gathered on the deck, Jaysen following a little behind her. The vast Ellinia Harbour before the ship was teeming with people, adventurers waiting to board the ship, their family and friends seeing them off, and even more people waiting for their loved ones to arrive. read more

¤ Lies

‘What are you going back to Victoria for, anyway?’ Wayne asked, the two of them dangling their feet as they sat on the roof of the cabin.

‘I’m accompanying Silver to Ellinia. That lady’s an Adventurer Librarian on a Project.’ Jaysen grinned. ‘Cool, isn’t it?’

‘Ha, I knew you had an ulterior motive.’ Wayne laughed. ‘How’s stalking the girl so far?’ read more

¤ Let’s All Hurt Jaysen Day

Come on, man, get a grip! Even a big fat hammer to your big fat head will do! ‘Ah. Hello, Alessa.’ Jaysen finally managed to arrange his stunned face muscles into a smile. ‘How has my lovely fox been?’

‘Aww, still as charmin’ as ever, Jaysen.’ Alessa purred and tweaked him on the nose. ‘Frankly, Jaysen cutie, ever since we parted, no one, and I repeat, no one has been able to capture my love like ya have, darlin’.’ She drawled at ‘love’, playing out the word in her low, husky voice as she stroked the side of Jaysen’s face. read more

¤ All Body Parts On Board

Quickly (too fast! Jaysen thought), the end of the ledge rushed towards their running feet. The ship was starting to turn away from the ledge, widening the gap between ship and ledge. Silver wouldn’t be able to make it. Jaysen thought, judging the distance quickly. And there isn’t time to cast Haste on her!

There was no time for hesitation, though. Just before they hit the edge, Jaysen reached out and wrapped an arm around Silver’s waist. Ignoring Silver’s gasp as her body stiffened at his touch, he hugged her close to his side, and made a great leap for the ship’s deck! read more

¤ Too Late!

‘I didn’t know so many people liked taking the morning ride.’ Jaysen commented mildly, craning his neck to see how many more people stood before them in the Ticketing Booth. ‘At least we still have about half an hour to go.’

The Orbis Station was an impressive place, its vast floors tiled with rosy-pink marble, and the high ceiling supported by grand pillars of the same marble. A giant digital clock, supported on two pillars decorated with graceful golden spirals, was prominently displayed, its gently glowing digits flipping mechanically to mark the time. In the midst of the huge station, a long line snaked before a round yellow structure, the only Ticketing Booth in the entire station. From where the trio stood, a pristine ship could be seen floating at the pier at the end of a long arched walkway, its white sails billowing and setting gently in the breeze. read more

¤ The Kiss of Resurrection!

‘Silver!’ Jaysen called softly into the sleeping girl’s ear. ‘Wake up!’

‘…see you again?’ Silver mumbled, to Jaysen’s surprise, then turned away from him, eyes still tightly shut. Her hands wound tightly around the backpack next to her head.

‘What, she’s still not awake?’ Ida appeared next to Jaysen, worried. ‘It’s only forty-five minutes more before the ship leaves Orbis Station.’ read more

¤ The Light of Day

‘Listen, Maldrich.’ Verchiel says in a low voice of fury. ‘If Kranz sends down Sorra and his fairy army, your chances of fulfilling your Lord’s wishes will only be that of a sheet against the storms’ wind, even with that vast army out there. I have the ability to persuade him not to-’

‘You underestimate my Lord’s army, Verchiel.’ Maldrich interrupts him, riling at Verchiel’s suggestion of Zakum’s inferiority. read more
