Aurora’s Redemption – Twenty-eight

¤ Another Point of View

The window of light dimmed, as the scene that they both watched faded away.

’But…that’s Verchiel? The fairy court? How- Who are you?’ The Soul looked away from the window, perplexed. ‘Why can you show me stuff like this?’

Ah, you made the Soul angry! You made it angry. Angry. Mad! The whispering in the air hissed into her ears, teasing her. Upset, she backed away, waving her hands apologetically. ‘Ah, no, I’m not blaming you or anything! Don’t listen to them.’ The Soul said hurriedly. ‘I’m just… finding this so weird[I].’ read more

¤ First Signs of a Threat

Supporting the rotund Nethan to his feet, the fairy girl turns too, to see that it was Verchiel, nephew of the King, and Royal Advisor, that raised such a commotion with his entrance. Her dark blue eyes narrow a little, as if in dislike. Walking up in long strides to the dais, Verchiel bows to the King, who smiles warmly in acknowledgement, and takes the empty Advisor chair to the right of Kranz, his emerald green eyes blank and emotionless as he stares at the fairy girl. read more

¤ Who’s Anywhere?

Suddenly, she just found herself here again. There was a whispering in the dimly lit space around her, something that she had never detected before. Previously, it was simply a blank vacuum, nothing that she could hear.

Strange how every time she came to consciousness (was that the word?), more and more of the details in this strange, dark landscape start to come to her. No, more accurately, more and more of her ability to sense those details were being restored to her. read more

¤ Gossip and the Many Uses of a Timetable

‘Plans? What sort of plans?’ Aurora said, interested.

‘No idea.’ Salmer hunched his skinny shoulders, one hand clutching a book closer to his chest and the other hand hooked loosely at the pocket in his tunic. ‘I only heard them argue about their plans, and about some woman in the school. The Headmaster said something like he was going to make things difficult for the woman.’ read more

¤ How You Change

Verchiel swept down the stone corridor, scattering the various students and teachers walking along there. Barely acknowledging the bows he received, he stopped in his swift passage only to turn into another corridor, his green eyes dark in contemplation.

Slowing down at the end of the passageway, he reached a pair of heavy wooden doors, and flung it open with a forceful spell-gesture, bursting into the room in a flurry of golden wings. read more

¤ Trussed Turkey

Salmer set down the chisel and brushed away the marble dust from the newly etched line. Leaning back, he squinted at his sculpture from a distance. The small marble block was roughly shaped into the form of a woman in a sitting position, two sketchy wings at her back. A slight frown furrowed his brow, as if the artist saw something wrong with the sculpture, and he bent over it again with a rasp to file away at some edges. read more

¤ Fluffy Fun

It must be them again, Aurora frowned. They just wouldn’t let mere lessons stop them from taking this chance to torment me, would they?

‘Come out, you cowards.’ She called, stepping towards the lit area beyond the circle of darkness around her. ‘I thought the last time you snuck out of classes to come after me, Mistress Spiruna threatened to test that new skin-dying spell that she recently invented on you. Are you itching to have orange skin to match your carrot head, Ferra?’ read more

¤ Menagerie

Jaysen finally finished his food. Standing up, he stretched his lithe frame, feeling like a well-fed cat. Well, I am. Well-fed, at the very least. Maybe if I get a tail, and some claws or cats’ ears… This train of thought had terrifying potential, but fortunately for you, reader, it was interrupted by Elma entering the room to clear up the dishes. read more

The Unofficial Guide to the Blacklist

Lots of people are posting questions about the Blacklist/ Watchlist, or whatever it is called in Global. Since I’m bored, and I left my thumbdrive with my story’s softcopy at home (I’m at a school computer lab now) and my quest to find oyster eggs here is getting tedious beyond belief, I shall just write an entry about it. To, you know, clear things up, and hopefully feel less bored and more accomplished afterwards. I’ve experimented with it when it first came to Maplesea, so I think I know some stuff about it. (I definitely do not know the correct name of that feature. So sue me.) read more

¤ Questionable Eating Habits

‘Why, dear damsel.’ Jaysen said quickly, trying to cheer Silver up. ‘You are such a brilliant Librarian, surely you can find ways around this temporary obstruction.’

‘Librarian.’ Silver repeated dully. ‘What can a Librarian do to a damaged book.’

Jaysen looked to the book in his hand, then back to the despondent look on the girl’s face, a wrenching feeling at the pit of his stomach. He knew that Silver took her Project very seriously; the loss of her only and most useful lead so far would be devastating to her. read more
