An incessant and irritating beeping engulfed the entrance hall, emanating from Ganzykus’s fallen body. It reverberated off of the bullet-ridden black walls eerily, like the call of some fell beast. But Michael noticed the noises coming in on an increasingly excited level. It sped up.

I woke up in a dream today and put my cold feet on the floor. I tried to run from the mistakes I’ve made, but I’m not what I was anymore. I’m a little bit of a paradox, slow to realize, what all of this means. I run towards the light but the closer I get, the further it seems. Why must this always happen to me?

The sun set lazily as it dipped below the ocean, casting brilliant hues of red orange across the cloudless sky. A gust of wind drifted in from the crisp ocean, ruffling the tops of the beach’s palm trees. Up ahead, seagulls happily called out as they swooped down to the ocean. The smell of brine tingled Maldran’s nose as he gazed out into the serene setting, temporarily forgetting all of his troubles, leaving them far behind in his wake.

The gunfire was deafening.

The blackness of the night gave way to the shadow of the day. Hours after midnight now, the new sun rose with practiced bravado, feigning its ineptitudes with radiant rays of light that started to arise from the horizon. The sky was still a murky grey, casting doubt upon the city which had turned into nothing more than a field of rubble.

A cold chill ran down my spine as my emerald eyes met his silver irises. The stalemate that ensued was agonizing; I felt uneasy, but furious at the same time. Somehow, I couldn’t read into this guy’s head. The fall of night coupled with the attack of New Leaf City did not help the situation at all.

He ran down the street, his heart beating furiously against his ribcage. Not daring to look back, he could only hope to find somewhere to hide before it reached him, before it destroyed him. Maldran’s eyes darted left and right, trying to find a place to hide. Beside him, four other pairs of feet accompanied him in punctuating rhythms.

They burned with the fury of the sun. A reddish hue of light flickered off of the buildings surrounding the demolished square, giving off a hellish scene of destruction. The wind had died down, abandoning the city and leaving the citizens to fend for themselves.
