Perfect World

Even though this is mostly going to be about PerfectWorld, I put this in MapleStory because they don’t have the option and I will be talking about MS here.

Yesterday was the first time I really started to seriously play PW. I am starting to get the hang of the right-click camera and everything. So I told my friend a little about it and he told me that he was starting too. Normally, I don’t really like playing with other people (Yeah, I know the point of an MMO is to play with others but I’m kinda shy and anti-social) but I decided I would help him start up. First off, he took forever to sign up and stuff. It was perfectly understandable except that every few minutes he would tell me: “I’ll be on in ## minutes,” “I’m coming on,” “I’m on.” So, I’m like, “What’s your character name?” He’s like, “Oh, I didn’t pick one yet.” -.-

He finally gets on and right off the bat he’s complaining. First thing he says is, “It’s night. Too dark. I can’t see (something or the other).” The thing is I had no problem seeing anything but I didn’t say anything. So I tell him I’m going to meet him at the newbie town he’s in. While I’m running he’s comparing the game to 12sky. He’s just started and he’s talking about how much better 12sky is. I told him to at least try it before putting it down. When I finally get there, we have a little chat and play around with the actions and stuff. Then he starts to complain about the game and telling me that he doesn’t know what to do. I tell him, “Go to the guide.”

“Nah. I don’t like guides. I like using my skills and discovering on my own.”

So I tell him, “The guides give you quests and free equips.”

Right after that, a girl comes and starts making flirting actions at him. And then another girl comes. So they act out some kind of weird thing… I guess they were like fighting over him. It was funny and all. After that, he said, “I LIKE THIS GAME NOW.”

-.-;;

So he finally starts to play and did the newbie quest. And then I guide him to the next town. Meanwhile, he’s complaining about the lag (well, that was justified cuz lag does suck in any game) and still talking about how PW doesn’t compare to 12Sky blah, blah, blah. We finally get to the town which is crowded as hell and I end up d/cing.

Um. what.

What pisses me off is that I was playing alone for hours before and there was no problem. Jeez, I hate my connection. Not that I was too keen on getting back on anyway. With all of his griping and moaning, I didn’t really feel like playing with him anyway. If 12Sky is so great, just go play that. Nobody’s forcing you to play PW. Knowing him, he was just being….I don’t know how to describe it. Difficult is all I can think of for now.

The thing about PW is that it’s not perfect. It’s very flawed. But then again, it’s only an English Malaysian Open Beta Version. The right-click camera is awkward. Well, for me it is. I like to control the camera with the arrow keys. And whoever was the translator really sucks at English. Half of the time I don’t really get what the characters are saying. And when I do, it’s very useless crap. Sometimes the descriptions for quests, and important things are very vague…

For example, I was given a quest to get a broken sword back for a drunk guy. I had to go to a merchandiser who apparently borrowed the sword from the drunk and wouldn’t give it back. For some reason, the guy told me he wasn’t making any money so I had to give him 800 gold and then he told me where he hid the sword. He told me to use his trolley to jump to the top of his house and then to keep jumping until I see a red box. Now…imagine this: a wide Chinese style building right in front of a mountain. You are an adventurer in PW that has had experience with these cleverly hidden items that you physically have to get to. As if you where doing it yourself. So I literally get on top of the building and I literally keep jumping in hopes that I’ll hook on to a crevice or something. Unfortunately, I kept sliding down. I look around the area and I see a broken wagon (the trolley???????) and I use it to jump on the mountain. I walk directly behind the house but there’s nothing there. I walk along the edge and accidentally fall. That is when I discover the box BEHIND THE HOUSE. I’m happy I found the box but I’m pissed that he just couldn’t say, “Look behind the house.”

This isn’t the first time I’ve had trouble with quests because of vague or misleading instructions. On one of the first quests, I could have done it at level 1 but I didn’t do it until level 7 or 8. Funnily enough, it was a jump quest. No, not like Maple’s annoying quests but very similar to it. Anyway, the guy tells me to go the the city’s main gate and to keep jumping until I see a box. Well, the city has no less than 3 gates AND I have to do it (find the right gate, get to the box, open it, and get it back to the guy) in 5 minutes. BTW, did I mention that I have to saw open the box which takes at least 30 seconds or so? So I’m jumping like hell and looking all over for this box. Then I see someone mention something about a bridge on the gate. Some guy doing the same quest as me asks me for help and then starts speaking gibberish. Because of him I lose the quest. Grr. As I start to head back, my camera accidentally pans up and I spot a bridge and the box. BINGO. Why didn’t he mention the bridge? Next try, my challenge is actually getting up there as the jump is just barely within a non-flying character’s reach.

Other than that, I like PerfectWorld. My main used to be my Elf Archer but I ended up making my Rei Ayanami clone, Unit00, my main. She’s a magician. I make awesome magic. O.O (BTW, when I told my friend about my character, the first thing he said was, “Rei sucked.” >.&gt

Another game I’ve started to play is Albatross18. It’s a cute Korean golfing game. I like it but it’s the only game that tends to freeze like the old PS1 games used to do. And it usually tends to freeze when I’m winning too. >.> The problem I have with A18 is that most of the stuff they have in the stores have to be purchased with Astros, which is NX for A18. I mean, it’s not fair that they have such a small selection for people who don’t want or can’t pay for their currency. But of course, it’s a business. Blah………… Another thing that annoys me is that since A18 is really global, there are a lot of people who are there and don’t speak English. Not that I have a problem with foreigners but it is difficult… I noticed that when some non-English speakers find out that I’m American, they get kind of rude and mean. Like this one girl who seemed to speak only Spanish. I told her that I only speak English about halfway through the game. Then when I started missing shots, she actually laughed at me. I was like, what? It’s not like I could ask her why or tell her to stop being a noob because the only things I can say in Spanish is “Hi, my name is…” and some other random newbie crap. I ended up losing and she laughed at that. Usually, people just say, “Good game” or nothing at all but she just really annoyed me. Then there were some other Spanish speakers who did know a bit of English but they were annoying. First the guy made everybody wait for his friend. Then he made it a boys vs. girls match. Then to that he said, “Boys will win b/c we’re always better.” Then when he started to lose, he bribed me and my teammate 20k to forfeit the match. The thing is, every time you quit a game, you suffer a penalty. I think you get lower exp and money. Then after a certain number of quits, the rate gets cut in half until you reach another level or something. As it was only like the 3rd hole, I refused to quit. I asked him, “Why quit when it’s only like the 3rd hole? Anybody can still win.” He just said, “plz quit. 20k, no 30k.” Last time someone offered me something like that, I got scammed. Unfortunately, my teammate fell for it and quit. I wonder if he really did give her the money…

Speaking of Maple, I don’t know if I want to play anymore. Last time I logged in, it took me 2 times to get into the game and then 2 more times to connect to the server. Then when I logged on, I was plagued by LAG because of the Christmas event. I discovered HappyTown which was of course just as crowded as HHG. Then, I saw people talking about smuggling the mittens out. It ruined my holiday spirit. So, some guy yelled at me for picking up a mitten he was trying to smuggle out. Serves you right, noob. Why would you try to cheat the game by trying to smuggle out useless items. So, I left HappyTown and walked around Henesys for awhile. I was trying to access my situation. I’m level 34, with a small amount of potions, some random equips I can NPC and 10k. I don’t have any quests that I can finish right away. I did finish a quest but for some reason I can’t complete it.

(BTW, if someone can help me with this situation: Dr. Betty’s quest where you have to get the weighted earrings, firewood, fossil report and leaf. Everything , with the exception of the earrings, I got from the monsters. I bought the weighted earrings. For some reason I get the quest complete chime but Dr. Betty still has the Quest In Progress icon. Can someone tell me why? And what can I do if this has happened to them? Because I’ve been trying to get these earrings to drop for weeks.)

I want to save money but I have to buy pots and equips on the next level. Another problem is that it does take forever to level up and I keep disconnecting. Not to mention, there are WAY too many people on and I often get KSed. When I do train in an area, and I don’t back off, I usually get flamed, defamed, or both. It”s bad enough that leveling is slow but dealing with lag and KSing is getting to be too much. Someone at MapleTip suggested that I quit but it’s like…I really don’t want to go when I worked so hard on my character. It’s not like I don’t have fun but it just pisses me off that players don’t seem to have have any kind of common courteousness for other players. I know it’s just a game but you should still show respect towards other players because it makes the game more enjoyable. It’s like most sins are REALLY rude along with some higher level players. There are those high-level players who only respect people who are high-level like them. Like this sin/priest in HHG.

Here I am on the 4th level where the green shrooms are at. Everybody is KSing each other. I was the 2nd lowest level up there. The person with the lowest level was this level 19 thief. So he’s on top of the hay and I randomly shoot a shroom he just happened to be aim for. Of course, I’m trying to get it first as there are like 4 other people aiming for the same monster. So he stands there for awhile and then says, “Stop KSing.” As there are like 4 other people there and I’m being KSed, too, I figure he’s talking to one of the other players. I keep shooting. Later on he says, “Stop KSing or I’ll get my priest.” I make the o_o face thinking he’s talking to another player and keep on shooting. Like 5 mins later, a level 4x priest comes by, stands there until I’m the only one left there and starts KSing me. I don’t get mad, however, I just start looting. So, a level 6x L/P wizard comes by and starts to KS him. He tells the guy, “Oh, I’ll go now. I had to bring out my priest because some level 3x noob was KSing my thief.” Seeing as I am the only 3x player there, I go, “Me??” He ignores me so I say, “I hope you are aware that I wasn’t there only one there KSing.” He ignores me again and soon he’s back on his thief. So I ignore him this time and keep shooting anyway I want. He’s not the only one that treat newer players like that. I often see people calling lower levels names and making fun of them. Even if they show that they do know more than the average newbie. Anyway, I’m just tired of the disrespectful people. I heard that they aren’t much better at the higher levels either.

Now that I think of it, somebody did mention something about this when Nexon came out with the MapleStory Mob crap. They said that advertising will just bring more scammers, hackers, and idiots. I see that’s true. Ehh…maybe I should just take a break until a later date. I don’t want to play MS if I’m spending more time being KSed or insulted….
