“Life’s but a walking shadow&quo

He comes in of late
drenched from head to toe
knowing hes in for a scolding
wanting clearly to escape the blow
mother washing the dishes
screeches out of tune
“where the hell have you been Mr.?”
“I though it was only half past noon.”
And he walks through the house
stealthily avoiding the kitchen
Finding the way to his room
in hopes of being hidden
Peeling off his soaking clothes
he slops them on the floor
realizing he should have changed in the bathroom
before choosing his own door.
He turns the creaky handle
making quite a sound
but mother’s washing the dishes
and the water is running so loud
Sneakily he crawls to the shower
his sloppy clothes in tow
he plans to leave them for an hour
hoping they’ll dry enough
In going back to his room
he hopes to clear his mind
I feel he thinks to much for a child
being only nine
laying on his bed-hes a astronaut in the sky
Searching the universe constantly
looking for answers to his “why?”‘s
then the garage door crunches and crashes
making such a commotion
He jumps up in bed saying
“oh no, fathers home”
