Chapter 4: Burnt Scars
Senra doubled over as a troop of slimes mobbed him. Magicians may be powerful, but they didn’t have much physical strength. He picked up his mithril wand and summoned the final vestiges of his strength to unleash a frenzy of magic claws. In a matter of seconds, a puddle of squishy goo was all that was left of his opponents.

He downed a blue potion to restore some of his energy. Throwing a scroll into the air, he muttered an incantation to bring himself back in the peaceful town of Ellinia. Many strong people (Or “pros” as they called themselves.) thought he was crazy for training in some place rather than Henesys at his low level. He personally thought it was a waste of time, since everyone else would run him out of any spot he found to train.

Going back into his hotel room, he ordered room service and quickly ate his dinner. The magician switched on his Maple PDA and surfed the PDA web and saw an urgent message alert. Flipping his stylus out of its resting spot, he pressed on the alert, opening the window. The contents made him gasp out of surprise. It said that Nekromi Town was being attacked by an unknown group. It showed a picture of the city ablaze. He recognized the school in the background.

Rushing out of the hotel room, he quickly ran over to a taxi and stuttered

“To Nekromi Town!”

The taxi driver floored it all the way to the outskirts of Nekromi Town, dropped Senra off, saw the town ablaze, and cursed and ran away, leaving the back door open.

Senra coughed as the noxious fumes went into his lungs. Among the smell, he recognized the scent of fifteen different acids that he studied in chemistry.

Running to the source of the smell, he gasped for breath. A few shadowy figures lurked behind the veil of smoke. He paid them no heed. Still running, he tripped over a piece of marble. That was the statue of the town square, or at least part of it. Someone stepped up to him and pointed a Lion’s Fang, one of the high leveled rare swords, and slashed. Blood spurted out of the flesh wound in his chest.

“Hello, Senra”

Senra gasped at the mention of his name.

“Who are you, and how do you know my name?” he yelled over the sound of crackling flames.

“Don’t you recognize me?”

The figure stepped forward. He was hazy at first, but it soon became clear who he was.

“It’s you, Sorelltic,”

“Yes,” Sorelltic responded.

Sorelltic was a year older than Senra. The hero of many basketball games, he was famous for his agility and strength among the children of Nekromi Town. He had also been Senra’s team captain, until Sorelltic had graduated. Some one else took over the team, and they went on a losing streak.

“What happened to you? Why did you do this?” Senra asked.

“I have become more powerful than many people can even imagine.”

“You’re avoiding the question.”

“Silence! Do you think I chose to do this? Nekromi is my home town. My master told me to do this. Through my master, I have gained all this power.”

“If you chose to follow your master’s leadership, then you ARE responsible for this.”

“Let us fight, instead of talk. Then we shall see who is mocking the other.”

Sorelltic lifted his sword and charged forward. He brought his sword to his head and slashed down. Senra jumped backwards and shot six consecutive slashes at his opponent. The spell would’ve done more damage, but Sorelltic was protected by an iron defense that weakened the attack. A faint scratch on his armor was all that came out of it.

Sorelltic laughed and suddenly rushed forward, toppling Senra over with ease. Senra’s wand dropped to the ground and he fell against a broken wall. Sorelltic drove his sword into Senra’s left shoulder.

The warrior grinned, “Senra, join our group, and you will achieve the power I have reached.”

“Don’t give in to him,” a voice in Senra’s head said. It was hard to listen to it, as a blade was buried in his shoulder.
Blood trickled out of his mouth as he spoke, “I…will…never…join…your…demented…group…Tell your…master…that crows…can…devour his en…trails….as far…as…..I am con..cer….ned.”

Senra’s legs snapped up and kicked Sorelltic’s stomach. Senra rolled over and picked up his wand, shooting rapid bolts of energy and claws at the general direction of his foe.

“His defense must’ve worn off,” Senra thought.

With that knowledge, he struck with more confidence, and was pleased as Sorelltic swore and ran off, blood flowing from multiple wounds. Satisfied, Senra stumbled out of the town into the forest. Weakened by his latest venture, he gave up the fight to stay conscious. The last thing he heard before he fainted was a familiar shout of distress.
