Chapter One: An Angel from Heaven

The snow was falling down gently, covering the ground with fluffy snow. Not a sound was heard. The streets of El Nath were deserted. A cloud of silence hovers over the snowy town. Today marked to 100th anniversary of a death. A death the villagers could not remember.

Young Paris travels through the snow, dragging himself across the barren field. On his head sat a Pifler, its black colour stained with blood. He winces as the wind blows into his broken arm, and feels the weight of his Blood Avarice. Shivering, he tramples over the field, leaving nothing but a trail of blood.

His eyes sparkle when the village comes into sight, but his vision was already distorting. Paris shakes his head, determined to carry on. His weakening steps grow smaller, making the task longer. A familiar pain surges through his head as he tried to blink away the tears of pain. Losing consciousness, the last he saw was a figure.

A young man lies on a warm cot, his rescuer filled with dread. Her brows are furrowed; exhaustion overcoming her. Healing is a difficult process, she said with a grin. She grimaced as she touched her wound, showering some potions over it. With her eye lids becoming heavy, she fell into a deep sleep.

She wakes up with a start, the young man’s hand gripping onto hers. Turning bright red, she removed her hand from his. The action awakens him, his aqua eyes darting back on forth. The young man attempts to sit up, but is stopped when the girl pushes him down.

“How long have I been unconscious?” he said, wincing.

“A few hours,” she answered, “You must rest; your wounds are not fully healed.”

“Fair damsel,” he said, “May I ask you for your name?”

She blushed as he spoke with his deep, mellow voice. “Iris. Would you have a name also?” She tried to smile.

“Ah, what a grand name,” he said with a deep chuckle, “Very well, my name is Paris.”

“What brings you here to El Nath, injured?” she questioned, curious to learn about his past.

“Ah, my damsel.” His eyes ventured off into a far world. “That is an excellent question indeed. I am from the continent of Victoria, and was sent here to recover the truth about what happened here in El Nath exactly 100 years ago today.”

Iris raises an eyebrow. “But Paris, wouldn’t this death have a huge impact on El Nath? I have never heard of such a tale told in this town, and I have lived here since I was a child.”

“Ah,” he said, “That is why I was sent here. My guild, Quest, recovers mysteries of the world and brings the truth to everyone. I was selected to complete this one.”

“How would you and your guild have knowledge on an event no one remembers?” She searched her memories for this story, but no avail.

“Yet another great question.” Paris gave her a grin. “A while back, my guild received this.” He hands Iris a rough piece of parchment.

Thou in the fields of El Nath,
Lies a girl.
Her death, a mere century ago,
Was erased from human memory.

Her destiny.
Quite unknown!
Perhaps the answer
Lies in her book.

“We do not know who gave us this though,” he said thoughtfully.

“A book…” Iris said. She stood up and disappeared into a room.

Paris sat there, waiting for Iris. When he first gazed at her, her eyes caught his. Although her sapphire eyes were stunning, a mist always seems to cover them. A mystery of their own, he thought, They match her blue hair too. He snapped out of his thoughts when Iris arrived back into the living room, carrying a book with a silver back.

“My father gave me this when he passed away,” she said, “I think this is the book the person is referring to.”

Reaching for the book, Paris touched its silver back. He slid his fingers across the silver cover, feeling its texture. The pages were yellow with age, but the writing was still legible. Opening the book, he read out loud…

I was preordained to die. I had no choice. Not matter how much I thought about it, the memories were back to haunt me.

Father said I was sent from the heavens. At least that is how I came to El Nath. According to him, my appearance was a miracle itself. Father claims he saw it with his own two eyes.

There was a beam of light surging through the clouds above onto the El Nath ground. A young girl appeared from the beam, her arms wrapped around her knees. Her crimson red hair ruffled in the wind as she was gently let down, her wings surrounding her.

A crowd stood and watched the young girl, but no one made the move to help her. She lay there, unconscious. The silence was interrupted when a rush of whispers. A man witnessed the whole scene. He walked up to the girl and took her to his home.

Author’s Note:

I threw in a little Jesus thing in there. With the whole destined to die, sent from the heaven and such. BTW, I’m Christian.
