Yeah, I ended up reminiscing a few days ago about Beta Maple.
My old friend, who had first convinced me to play, called for the first time in a year. I was happy.
Funny how she gave up after a month of playing, complaining that the game was really boring…and here I am, nearly four years later, still heavily addicted. Crust D:<
Also, it’s almost 2008…so I am celebrating four years of Maple addiction. Holy underwear. Well, not EXACTLY four years yet, but you get the point right?
So, here are things I remember about Beta. I actually miss all of them, because the bad aspects were amusing when you look back…
[1] No Smegas. ‘Nuff said.
[2] Tespia T__T
[3] Rollbacks once a month. I remember someone had traded me 1 mil, then the next day there was a rollback. I was so angry 
[4] …Yea, a mil was a lot back then
[5] Anyone level 50 or higher was godly
[6] …Or a hacker
[7] Everyone and their mother hacked or botted in some way
[8] Jump hacking the jump quests (I’ll admit that I caved into that temptation 😮 )
[9] Perion channel 1
[10] Only Victoria and Maple Island existed, so there weren’t a whole bunch of maps to remember (easier on my poor brain)
[11] Looting from vac hackers
[12] The old cursor
[13] Half of the population had messed up stats, because we were all newbs!
[14] Panlids were 1337
[15] Less leveling, more fun-having
[16] GMs didn’t talk to us like they would a five-year-old
[17] Holiday events with ITEMS THAT DID NOT HAVE A 0.003% DROP RATE *smashes a gramcracker*
[18] No NX whoring.
First Screencap~ haha, this is the old Keten from Beta. I lost all of my Beta screencaps, but my friend sent me this one. She was my fighter with the worst stats I have ever seen (70 STR at level 30 =_=)
Second Screencap~ when Global came out…I was so depressed, I missed Beta…but here is Keten when she was level 4 (I feel like an over-obsessed parent)! And talking to me was my ex-friend, the guild leader of Catalyst who turned into the biggest prat.
Third Screencap~ Keten as she is now, guildmaster of FluffMuffin *sob* I’ll never change her eye color! T__T
So yeah, if you didn’t get the chance to play Beta…hate to rub it in your face but you missed out 
If you had been there, you would understand.
It was killer fun. Shame it had to end…I always thought that instead of shutting it down, they could just use it to test new patches and let the closed beta testers stay D:
Sigh, selfish hopes.
And my finals are finally over <3 Onto second semester, Drink up me hardies YO HO!
Though I may not have played Beta, I got in right after Beta ended due to my friend. Things were roughly the same as you describe. The thing I remember most was the level 30 mage hat name change.

I remember my first time through the Ant Tunnel, lmfao.

I remember that finding a panlid was one of the best things that could happen to you, and that Perion was so darn laggy cause of all the people. And no FM, woww.
Dang I miss those days, I found a panlid as well in the Beta Version. It was so awesome, I reached level 44 on my Ice/Lightning mage and had an Arc Staff, but then OMS came out,
Lucky u_u; I never found a panlid, and no one would sell them for a price I could afford! Until, of course, that person traded me 1 mil, but then BLAHA! ROLLBACK!
I think the highest I reached was 34, because I remember my mage wearing red amoria robes . . . be easier if I had pictures ~.~
Maple is too flashy these days. Hate it. i wished i could have played Beta. =(

God deng it. I totally remember Beta. The Tespia sever, the book map, the 2-7hour patch (took that long to patch the patch
) to confirm it was offically called Beta, the red dots to click to log in, the jewel cursor, and my most beloved I think 6x warrior, PowerChubbs.

Lol I remember panlids! There used to be people in HHG1 “B>PANLID 300K” and I looked it up and saw it was a common level 10 shield, and couldn’t possibly understand why anyone would pay 300k for one,

Beta. . . I distinctly remember a 100% scroll failing on me back then.
Y’know, back when the ENTIRE WORLD didn’t have to see you scroll and go “WAT SCROLL U USE!?!/1!”
A 100% scroll failed? Good thing they fixed that
I always lie and name a really expensive scroll, then when they ask to see the scrolled item I just . . . walk away.

But my characters were pretty much the same as now, I still have Keten and Cari. Did you ever see them? o_O
You had Beta, I had Singapore-Malaysian-Thailand gateway. (Damn they should have made the name a bit more easier to rattle off. >>; )
Anyhow. Yeah. I didn’t see no hackers around though, back then. But hell-yeah, I remember Perion Channel 1. And the old cursor. And the panlids.

I think there might have been more botters than hackers. I just remember that . . . I’d blink, and a new kind of bot or hack was being used
