Burst: Chapter 3

An hour later, a disturbance came from the small entrance that Ty had used earlier. As heads turned towards the hole in the wall, a female head popped through. Confusion emanated from her hazel eyes as she made her way through and stood up. “Ty, what—”

“I’ll explain in a second, just follow me,” he said, cutting her off. He led her back through the hole and around to the back of the building where two crates sat. The siblings used this place do discuss anything they deemed inappropriate for the children. “Those two men in there are very strong,” he began. “I tried to steal a pouch of gold from them because we were so low on food, but they caught up with me somehow. Apparently, they’re from some important group and want me to join it or something. I don’t know whether it’s good or bad, really.”

“But what about—”

Ty cut her off yet again, “They’ve promised to provide everything for you guys.” He paused, lost in thought. Although Julie was thirteen, a year older than Ty, it was apparent that Ty was the leader of the small group. “It’ll be wonderful for you guys. You’ll never have to worry about anything again.”

Ty began to stand up to return inside, but Julie protested, “But what about you!?”

“I’m not important. The children are! It’s not like I’m going to be in prison or anything. Whatever they want me to do; I’ll do it for you all.”

Julie opened her mouth to protest another time, but saw that her brother’s mind was clearly made up. She nodded, “If it’s what you want, then I’ll go along with it.” The pair hugged, and made their way back to the small entrance.

The bowman stopped before a large building on the main street in Heneseys. Ty barely managed to avoid colliding with the man because of the suddenness of his action. “Well, here we are, the Tutelan Academy of Excellence,” the bowman said with a gesture towards a large sign above the main entrance that had already informed Ty of their location. The warrior had taken Julie and the others to their new living quarters and thus the two were alone.

The bowman opened up one of the large oak doors and entered after Ty. From there, he led the boy down the main hall and took a left one hundred feet from the entrance. Any student they passed stared at the degenerate with a mix of shock and disgust. At the end of the hall, the bowman knocked on a door on the right. This door was noticeably nicer than the others around it. Ornate designs covered the entrance made of some unearthly wood. A short moment afterwards, the door opened and a man in attire similar to the bowman’s stood in front of them. Several scars covered the man’s face, and a pair of sickeningly curved daggers hung from his belt. His white garments had little to no armor and seemed much less restrictive than even the bowman’s.

He led them into the room and beckoned them to sit down before beginning. “Well, Jean, this doesn’t look like the boy I sent you to retrieve.”

“My apologies, Head Locke, but this boy seemed very promising.”

“Really,” the man said with a raised eyebrow, “do tell.”

“I was on my way to meet the boy you had asked for when this boy, Ty, stole my money pouch. I hardly even noticed, and had it been anyone with less awareness, the boy would have gotten away scot-free. Nonetheless, I pursued him and found him to be a tad faster than even myself. I had to employ some trickery just to keep up. In the end, he returned to his dwelling and I followed him to it in secret. When Vincent caught up, I had him destroy the door and we entered.

Ty seems to have been caring for about half a dozen other orphans and was planning on using the stolen money for their food. When we entered, he was defensively guarding them with a rusty sword he’d procured from who knows where. This is where things get interesting. He seems to have an extraordinarily fast initial burst. He was fifteen feet away from me before he attacked and was upon me before I had even unlatched my bow. Fortunately, I evaded his attack and had Vincent restrain him so that we had talked.

I agreed to the organization caring for these orphans and his sister of a similar age for his enrollment in this academy. I realize that my promise was made without the academy’s consent, however I was sure that you would have no problem with this once you saw his abilities.”

Finally, the bowman, Jean, ended his story. The headmaster seemed to be absorbing the man’s words and the room was silent for quite some time. “Well then,” the headmaster said with a smile of amusement, “shall we test him out?”

Next chapter will be very actiony, I promise. In case you didn’t get it, Head is just a shortened version of Headmaster (Lock is the guy’s last name). He is not the only Headmaster; there are five. Anyways, hoped you enjoyed. Please comment and click the button like usual.

What’s really sad is that you’re the first to catch it.
