Aurora’s Redemption – Three

¤ Cold

The pair trudged out into the snowy grounds further away from the town. A cold wind gusted through the barren trees, gently teasing Silver’s curls. Hugging her red Napoleon cloak closer to herself, Silver held her Olympus bow at the ready. Jaysen led the way, claiming to be the more experienced one.

And he was right. Using his golden dagger, he quickly dispatched the various strange creatures that dwelled in the snowy forest. Silver provided support by watching his back and shooting any attacking creatures from afar. After clearing several mobs of Jr. Yetis, Hectors and Fangs, she felt more confident about her hunting skills.

Spotting a slight movement in the snowdrifts, she let loose two arrow bolts in its direction. There was a small squeak as the furry little Jr. Yeti toppled out into the open.

Excited at her success and with the possibility of her Project’s completion, she dashed ahead of Jaysen into the deserted ruins. This was where the townspeople told them that Yetis could be found. She was so excited, that she failed to notice the twitching corpse of the Jr. Yeti she had just killed.

With an eerie creaking sound, the small pile of fur started to morph and expand…

The frigid chill of the ruins blasted her exposed face and made Silver blink. Skidding a little on the snowy ground, she fought to regain a stable footing. Passing her hand across her bow, she notched two glowing arrows on her bowstring and held them, ready to fire. Surveying the blindingly white landscape in front of her, she suddenly noticed a growing shadow that loomed over her.

Silver’s eyes widened in surprise. Spinning around, she saw the approaching Yeti too late. Before she could release her arrows, the Yeti dealt her a stunning blow with its gigantic fists, sending her tumbling across the snowy ground. She could not help but scream in pain. Her bow bounced out of reach, the two Soul Arrows on it disappearing.

Hearing that scream, Jaysen hurried into the ruins. All he saw was the rampaging Yeti, which had transformed from the Jr. Yeti that Silver had killed earlier. Where is Silver? With a rough cry, he leapt onto the behemoth, worry and adrenaline a heady mix in him. Lightning fast, he jabbed at the Yeti six times, stabbing through its tough hide to draw blood.

Roaring in pain, the Yeti swiped at the irritating mite that dared to draw its blood. Nimbly, Jaysen leapt away, but his Panlid shield was knocked off his arm, the leather band that secured it torn. ‘Darn, that cost me quite a lot!’ He yelled at the Yeti, trying hard to shake off the numbness in his shield arm.

It only responded with another swing. Jaysen ducked under the vicious swipe and attacked the Yeti’s soft belly, tearing open the white fur there. Even more enraged now, the Yeti swung downwards with one fist.

‘Oof.’ Jaysen was knocked away from the giant monster with that blow. Winded, he tried to scramble to his feet, but found himself hopelessly tangled up, his golden dagger nowhere to be found.

Lying helpless on the ground, Jaysen screwed up his face and braced himself for the fatal blow. Most absurdly, his last thought was, Good grief, this Scorpio armour better be worth the mesos I paid for it!

Next chapter: link

Oh my, a fight scene! It has been ages since I wrote one, and the last one was a human vs. human fight. Come to think of it, this is the first time I pit any of my characters against a monster, so I hope it was exciting enough.

Just in case you are wondering why the heck those two are hitting on, I mean, fighting the Yeti, read the first few chapters. It wouldn’t take long, and it is infinitely better than being lost and confused.

I mean it. For your convenience: link link link
