DAY ONE
I wake up in Eos Tower, determined to finally finish the quest for 1000 Drum Bunnies. I’ve got around 300 at this point, so I begin training. After about an hour, Nahhanio calls me, claiming someone on Basil Market bid three million mesos on my dexterity-less Jurgen Wristguard. I nearly fainted from excitement, until he realized it was Dex-less. We gave him neutral feedback, but according to Basil rules, we should’ve reported him. Oh well, that’s what I get for being nice.
Going back to training, I went to down to Omega Sector to help Nahhanio with a few quests, and we hung out there for a bit. I climbed back up Eos Tower, only to find I had won a few bids on Basil Market. I climbed BACK DOWN, and headed to the free market, in order to receive my prizes, one of them being an Omok Set. The rest of the day was pretty much training, until I came across other player, doing the quest. We soon engaged in an epic Omok duel, which lasted half an hour. He was the victor.
After my great opponent left, I continued to play until I managed to reach Level 35. At that point, it was bedtime.
DAY TWO
The next day I arose and quickly finished the 1000 Drums quest. I cashed in my prize and quickly headed towards other quests in Ludibrium, such as killing Block Golems, or King Bloctopi. I finished many of those, and then headed towards Florina Beach, starting the quests there. I was there for about an hour or so before a guild named Skittlez showed up, demanding that I leave or change channels. I thought it was a bit rude, but I didn’t listen – I went back to training. They weren’t very nice.
I soon realized that killing Clangs was close to impossible, so I decided not to do those quests, until much later. I headed for the Free Market, where I found Dark Crystal Ores and I bought eight of them, meaning I had finally finished that quest. My chores in Ludibrium were done, so I grabbed a ticket and hopped onto the boat to Orbis. Once there, I began the “Protecting Nero” quest, as well as the ones for…. That dude in the basement of Orbis Tower. Although boring, I finished one of them, while his second one, which required Screws, Steel Plates, and Air Bubbles nearly drove me, broke. X_x I haven’t finished it yet.
I sold all my Magic Spot scrolls to some Priest, and I began climbing Orbis Tower, which took about half an hour. Reaching the top, I beat up kittens in the Garden of Three Colors and decided it was time to finally write this.
Now for the ranting part….
NOTE: This only really applies to the Windia server. People in Bera and Scania are so nice~
Why does the Maplestory community suck so much? People are simply rude or just plain stupid, to the point where it makes the game totally not fun.
Many times I’ve asked people if they’ve got items for sale – I’ve addressed them by name, requested trades, but they simply ignore me, and keep on going. Their friends show up, and they’re suddenly capable of talking again, but they’re simply bent on ignoring Paperfairy17. Not cool.
Some people will just walk up to you and defame you, which again – isn’t cool. I usually fix that by having one of my friends fame me, but it’s still totally uncalled for.
Or the people who can’t understand “no”. People ask if I have certain items, and I’ll reply no – but they’ve the urge to ask again, when I’m the only other person on the map. They simply keep at it until I change channels or log out. They just don’t stop.
I’ve about thirty decent players on Maplestory, and the rest of them fall into the category of “mean, rude, and stupid.” Why can’t players simply get along?
Nahhanio and I were discussing this, and we finally figured out the theme of our guild – random acts of kindness.
Our guild would work much like the concept of paying it forward, as quoted below, from Wikipedia:
“Pay it forward or paying it forward refers to repaying the good deeds one has received by doing good things for other unrelated people.
The phrase “pay it forward” as a moral philosophy first appeared in Catherine Ryan Hyde’s novel Pay It Forward and in 2000 it was adapted into a Warner Brothers film, Pay It Forward. In the book and movie it is described as an obligation to do three good deeds for others in repayment of a good deed that one receives, and that such good deeds should be things that the person cannot accomplish on their own. The recipient of such acts of kindness is then expected to do three good deeds for others in repayment for the help they have received. In this way, the need to help each other can spread exponentially through society, creating a social movement with the hopes of making the world a better place.”
Our plan is to simply do good deeds for other players, and ask them to pass on the kind act. We’re hoping this will brighten the community – or at least Windia.
If you’d like to take part, here are some things we’ve done:
– Randomly fame someone, tell them to help someone else out, and DISAPPEAR. Make sure they don’t pay YOU back, or it won’t work.
– Request a trade, give them an item of importance, leave the message, and DISAPPEAR.
– If you see that someone is doing a quest, offer to help kill stuff, or simply drop the required items.
– If someone is mean or nasty to you, smile and help them with someone. Most of the time, they’ll apologize, and you can get them to “Pay it forward”.
So come on everyone – let’s make this game more fun for everyone, no?
